Trying to attempt a 6x1 strength workout , ended up at 5th set where my lower lumbar has a crack sound and i drop the weight instantly and feel tight hamstring and glutes. Then, ended up foam rolling at the gym for quite sometime. Probably, my bad form while i deadlift. Now, i have to rest and wait for recovery.

so , this thread i actually wanted to ask sifu:
1) how long have you all deadlift?
2) do u all get injuries from it and how frequent?

Not a sifu here , but here's my experience :

1) 3 years now , however first 2 years were at home (restricted to 35kg max only) , the other 1 year and counting is in the gym , since I've signed up for my membership last March.

2) So far I've injured my lower back twice , the first injury wasn't severe (from over excessive deadlifting during the first 2 years at home when first starting working out) . The second one was due to Squats (and boy it was a horrid incident) , I jumped straight into my max lift on my last set , right after a one month break from the gym due to my mock exam  doh.gif

Hope you recover soon bro. Check out the stickies here on the proper forms of deadlifting  smile.gif

i see, how long it takes to recover ? i have been deadlifting for quite sometime, first time to injured my back .. it sucks. Maybe yesterday i was trying to max out as i only perform 1 rep each for 6 sets. Shouldnt have force my bodeh that far. I have stuck at 150 kg deadz for quite sometime and last month i broke a 155 kg , then it went to 160 kg last week. Feeling happy but then it end up yesterday i injured my back. sad.gif

no need to feel embarrassed bro. we all gotta start somewhere. Better post and correct rather than continuing with bad form. Besides,  why would we make fun you, we're here to help smile.gif

btw, check out the stickies here for the proper forms on deadlifting .

Tighten your core and push it off the ground steadily.
Don't use explosive strength especially with rounded back. That's a shortcut to snap city. Took me 2-3 weeks to recover.

okay .. anyway is it better to deadz with belts or no belts ? coz i din use belts all this while and my fren is always there to make sure that my back is not rounded ..

Last time when i snap my shit it tooks me several months before i start weighlifting. (Yup stopped weightlifting, u heard me rite).

Then i watched elliot hulse video about why u snap ur back? Then i found the method to deadlift properly.

Before you start to lift the bar there are two muscle group should play a part, abs & legs. When u lift start with using abs muscle (Tighten of course) then use ur leg to push upward, then at last u use ur back to be straight.

Dont progress so fast (in-terms of weight) for this three dangerous exercise Deadlift, Squat and bench press.

Remark: Always make sure ur core is good and stable.

i have been deadlifting for 2 years actually .. Elliot deadlift without belt.. so do u think it is better to deadlift with belts or not ? i am at 74 kg now with 15%bf .. seriously, i don know what is classified heavyweight or lightweight now lol.. personal 1 rep max record at 160kg .. sometime 140kg for 3 rep - 5 reps .. but last week i got injured while lifting it up(150kg), that bar was 3 inches of the floor .. Damn i dont know what went wrong but certainly i lost focus..

we're about the same weight, and deadlifting the same weight too

for the weight that sometimes feels so heavy while other time feels easy to handle, there's alot of factor that can influence it, eg. last night slept well or not, foods before workout, your mind condition and so on, we can just call it a bad day and dont force yourself doing heavier one, attempt the heavy lift at next workout

ok .. thx for the advice ... coz i am doing 6x1 tht day .. manatau snap .. cry.gif

i love do 1 rep for deadlift too, i can spend a whole hour doing deadlift multiple sets of 1 rep to see how far i can go  rclxms.gif  but yeah, need to really emphasize on form when deadlifting near your max
*
normally after i hit my pr , i will hit 1 rep for multiple sets the week after at 80% of my 1 RM.. sometime i feel good and i increase it to 95% lolz(just to feel some accomplishment)... sometime its very hard to see my form when i train alone ..

Then i would say it is your mind condition since you got experience in deadlift.

Try to visualize first before you start lifting, i always do that and i dunno where i read this before.

This will help in mind muscle connection to prevent injury and boost self-confidence for heavy lifting.
*
yep .. certainly cannot lost focus while deadlifting and squat .. sometime its a bad day .. sometime unlucky day . I better stretch more the next time approach deadlifting and squat ..
