yoga is based on religion, so basicly to practice yoga would be considered idolatry by most religions.
it would be the same thing as asking a muslim to go to church and participate in the service. |

I was under the impression it was a cultural activity, like kungfu. You should be able to do it without concentrating on the religious element?it would be the same thing as asking a muslim to go to church and participate in the service. Sumo is also similar i think, at the highest level you're essentially a Shinto acolyte. However most people don't even bother with that part. |

QUOTE(malaysianPotato @ Aug 30 2006, 12:19 PM) alot of people refrain from many forms of martial arts for religious purposes, its not uncommon. Well, do you consider meditation religious? Barring the fact it's a central component to quite a number of different religions and purposes. Or even things like energy and faith healing. whether or not you can do it without concentrating on the religious element is moot, you cant ask someone to say sing a worhsip song from another religion and tell them dont think about the religious part and it'll be fine. anyway, to avoid turning this into a religious flamefest we will stop this here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoga <-- if you want to know more about yoga and how its interelated with buddhism, hinduism, blablabla. And would it be wrong to appreciate religious music from the musical aspect? Quite a bit of classical music is religious by origin. Bach wrote most of his music for the church. I don't see anybody complaining about listening to Bach though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_music IMO, it's all part of a multicultural experience. Unless any religion explicitly forbids all contact with elements of other religions of course. This post has been edited by snorlax: Sep 3 2006, 04:51 PM |

Or even things like energy and faith healing. to observe an act and to participate in it are two completely different things, to interact with someone outside of one's own religion is not the same as practicing something from another religion. Unless any religion explicitly forbids all contact with elements of other religions of course. meditation by definition is simple to think deeply. in essense there is no religiousity to the act of meditation, it is what you meditate on with which the definition of religious meditation comes into play. my view on the subject is simple, watching/listening to religious worship or music isnt exactly wrong as alot of the time it is unavoidable(mosques and their loudspeakers...) but to actively take part in a religious act by singing along or in this case practice yoga in my view would be considered idolatry. to each his own, my views are based on a simplistic mindset on what religion is and what are the boundaries of such. your views may differ, which is what freedom is all about. now, we've run this thread off topic far enough. to get back on topic, i like basketball though i dont play much anymore after my knee injuries, i like running and run every morning on the weekdays. QUOTE(ming2020 @ Aug 24 2006, 09:27 PM) Chinwoo is impressive... the deep end was fun to dive in... but the location sucks with all the traffic. huh??indoor pools at california fitnes MV?? I've tried some clubs here and there... Bukit Jalil one is okay but not deep... Sg Long has a very impressive olympic sized (?) one with fairly deep end... but all these must know somebody there first only can enter unless got $$$ to pay membership fees. My ideal place would be an indoors pool. Heard there's one in California Fitness Mid Valley... any idea how deep/large it is? what is Capoeira btw? i personaly luv badminton...what i gain...fun, sweat n appeite |

Kayz, i'll leave this thread back on topic too, but just wondering how many yogis actually practice yoga completely with the religious aspects... (thinking of those at CF/FF/TF)
sintian: You'll probably love capoeira, since it's a mix of martial arts, dance and aerobic activity. Check out ourBantus Malaysia Video. |
