It works the same as normal trading transactions:

1. Quotation (occasionaly u may need to submit few quotations before they agree on the charges rate)

2. Invoice (once project done or down-payment is promised, you will need this doc to collect payment)

3. Receipt (since u started the proper doc, u have to end it in a proper manner too)

Just state all your payment criterias and also list down the job scopes in the invoice and quotation to protect yourself. Just in case you can't manage to get down-payment, at least get the person-in-charge to sign off your quotation as an indication of payment acknowledgement.

Do not worry too much of writing styles as its varies. Just make sure you state down your requirements for them to sign. Ignore those fancy words, keep it clear. Sometimes you may ignore clients critics/sarcasm as they just want you to loosen down your demands. IGNORE THEM! BE WHAT YOU WORTH.

Those templates you can easily get it from the net. A traditional billing sets will do.

Good luck.

If your client need some black & white for the project, you can come up a basic agreement and list down all your job scope. As we know, web design is something very subjective, some people say the design good, but some people say is bad. Sometime, a 2 weeks project can delay until 2 months or further.

To protect urself, i will advise u to have 'Quotation' that list down all your jobscope (like how many mock up page, how many time changes, who will responsible on the write-up, and etc) & timeline. At the same time, ask your to sign on the quotation, and you can take it as the PO. Prepare a 'Request-Change' Form everytime they ask to change sometime, once changes are made, ask them to sign (if not, 2 days later, they will call u again and change again).

Regards,
Harry

Normally, we will collect 30% as initial payment, 50% before launch or during UAT, 20% after the 2 weeks of warranty period.

It also depend on client la tongue.gif .. if the client very lan shi and ma fan .. try to get 50% 1st .. if not, i guarantee ur last payment can only collect next year smile.gif .. cos they keep changing and changing ..

list down all ur job scope, and tell him that's all that u'll do for the quoted price. get the finalise requirement and expectation from the customer. protect urself else u'll die doing correction, additional task and stuff.

list down the price as detail as possible (eg. basic, page count, function etc)

host i recommend bluehost.com. no freakin malaysian reseller for me which have stupid price, stupid features and stupid support.
