Hi,

Is it possible to use the Note 3 to replace the console. Mainly it is because of portability. I can go to any TV, and hook up immediately.

I have a normal LED TV. I can buy a MHL cable, which can output to the TV, however, I am not sure if the TV can charge the device while it is connected. I can use the moga pro controller to connect to the controller via bluetooth. The only thing I have problems right now is how to have constant power supply as running the games with the battery will run the thing flat quick.

Anything that I have missed out on converting the phone into a dedicated console?

This is the MHL cable I have in mind.
The Moga power pro

Has anyone tried it?

To connect to ur TV, I think should be fine with the cable but have to double check whether that cable works or not before buying but I recommend the original Samsung adapter which has a power outlet. Find an adapter that works with Note 3 since that link above doesn't support Note 3 I think.

As for controller, most likely the support for games are limited. Also, the games have to be coded to work with the controller. Not all games will work.

I suggest if u wanna play Android games, I highly recommend looking into Ouya or NVIDIA Shield. Otherwise, just play it on ur phone.

Technically some are emulators. Most are free or a lot cheaper compared to the console conterpart. I don't mind graphics hit. Phones are getting more graphically powerful with each generation. Great games will come, only cheaper. I see more Squareenix and Sega library games coming. FF Tactics is already out in the Japan store. SE releases FF7 on Steam, and people go mad. Releases FFVI on android, people go mad. Proof that you don't need powerful consoles. Game makers are out of ideas. Mobile platform is the best method of getting new IP at a relatively low entry cost.

I have a PS3, and games which I consider essential are on this list. In fact, some are mutli-platform anyway which I exclude. Aside from Naughty Dog, Ni no kuni, Valkyria Chronicles and maybe Just Dance, I don't see why you need to buy other games. After finishing all Uncharted titles, I don't see the need to replay them. Only game I replayed 4 times is Valkyria. Heck, I am to the point of laziness, might as well watch full youtube videos of the game walkthrough since those games have a sort of fixed structure. Will do that with the Last of Us or wait until someone decides to do a Movie version of it:lol: After struggling to finish FF XIII, I just watched the entire FFXIII-2 on youtube which I can do while eating, commuting. I found that it is actually quite enjoyable since people have already cut out the grinding level-up version. To me, there is little value in a very closed structure game-like RPG. Yes you want the story. Why not just watch it on youtube. You get the story without the headache and possibly save a huge amount of time. I keep going back to Valkyria, Fire Emblem, FFT, XCOM anyway and spend a lot of time on BlazBlue and Samurai Shodown II

So the latest GTA is not on PC...it will come. My game buying policy is not to exceed USD $5 for new/used, regardless if I need to wait. Wait too long any maybe the games will go on GOG. Heck, I still have 3, 4 games which I have not even touched on Steam. FTL alone is taking 300+ hours now, and I have not yet unlocked all ships. Given I play with a 100% complete policy, and being extremely choosy with games,

Of course you can't play fruit ninja with a controller. So games which are ok and not including emulator games.

Xcom: EU
NFS
SNK playmore games (Samurai Showdown II, KOF etc)
Raiden Legacy
FFVI
Sonic
FIFA
Transformers
Contra
GTA
Real Racing
Dead Space

Imagine if Nintendo goes bust and become Sega. Fire Emblem series will comes to mobile. So I don't see the need to buy another console. Bought my PS3 slim after the slimmest version was released. Cherry pick games. Maybe I'm already 30 years+ and I don't have time.

I've watched tlou on theradbrad YouTube channel, from 1st chapter till the last plus dlc. That's like over 50 hours video time. And now I even have pre order it, the game I feel is that great. Now kinda regret have watched it on YouTube, there's no interaction when watching video, it's not the same feeling of engagement from playing games.

Coming back to the question of playing android games on TV, if your TV support miracast over Wi-Fi, you can mirror your display to the TV via Wi-Fi, this you be able to charge your phone at the same time. If your TV don't have these function, you can use Chromecast or China equivalent HDMI stick to mirror your display. On the side note, the HDMI stick is also dlna, I'm using it to display YouTube stream from my phone.

>Nintendo goes bust
>~10 billion USD of cash reserves with little to no debt

I think you have to wait until Note 50 for that to happen. laugh.gif

Anyway, any further emulation talk will put this thread at risk of removal. The mobile platform aren't so desperate for games to depend on old platform nostalgias. wink.gif

I can wait years of consecutive negative financial reports. When Nintendo is desperate, they will sell anywhere they can. I don't believe in emulators. I am working now and I can buy games. If you pirate, people will not make money to make better games.

Game quality, although consoles are not so portable as your set up, but the mobile games quality now are like 'meh'
