hi guys,

i need some help.

i have been building my own pc for years but this is the first time neither google nor myself can solve this issue.

firstly, my pc spec is as follows:-

AMD FX-8350
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX
12gb PC3 DDR1600
OCZ Z1000 PSU
AMD 6950 3gb
WD Raptor 2TB
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Unifi modem and router

i have a problem regarding connection to the internet. my house has 1 macbook, 1 ms-windows laptop, 6 smartphones, one china brand tablet, 1 microsoft windows pc (aside from mine) - all are able to connect to the unifi modem at any given time through wifi

here's my pc's problem although i have to segregate the problems.

1. able to connect to my wifi router but no internet access
this problem occurs using my everyday network adapter, an asus usb n-10
i have no idea why this occurs
i made sure the DNS is automatically set under the TCP/IPv4 settings

i have looked under cmd and tried the ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew although these two yielded errors

i have tried so many things offered in google but i still cant connect

2. not able to connect to the wifi router at all
this happens when i switched the asus adapter with one i used a long time ago - an adapter from buffalo corp.

with this adapter, whenever i try connecting to the wifi router, it says my security passphrase is incorrect
upon other tries, it asks me to enter "network authentication" username and password which was weird because i didnt set any of this up

in all instances, i have tried with and without disabling my firewall

i know people have suggested to reset the unifi router but i am not going to do it just because my pc couldnt connect and i seriously think it's an issue with the network adapters (i may get another brand new one from other brands just to test).

what do you guys think?

You may need to check the device lease time list and release a slot, if you haven't done this already.

Access the wifi AP/router config and check from there...might be too many concurrent devises hogging up the lease.

ill give a check
currently, at one given time, without checking the release slot, no more than 3 devices are connected at one go.

Can you access the router web interface from your PC?
If automatic IP assign does not work, try manual IP. Sometimes it may works.
Or change the wifi channel, 802.11 mode set to auto(aka b/g/n mixed).

Here are problem i've encountered and solve, that might give you some clues
My HTPC's wifi adapter wont work if i force my Asus/TPlink router to N mode only.
And my Sis's note 3 can't detect my Huawei's modem wifi except i force my router wifi channel to 6.

nope the pc cant connect to the router web that is 192.168.0.1 (all the other pc's and macbook are able to)

the unifi d-link router does not have the option to enable just N only (my previous ASUS has it)
will changing the channel work? i mean the current channel is automatically set at 4

As you say that your problem is connected to the wifi but get limited access / no internet access ? Try set a static ip in adapter properties under IPv4 address.

These are the things you would have to check and set
1 check the wifi security protocol that you are using. eg is it wep, wpa, wpa2? which.
2. from 1 above ensure that you set it correctly/correspondingly/accordingly with the correct password / passpharase (Capitals matter)
3. look at your wifi indicator, what icon / symbol does it show? does it have an ! exclamation mark still? If yes, this means that you ARE connected with the router but have either the wifi security password WRONG or that your OS does not have the right wifi security which is used by the router. Check the other machines that can connect successfully

4. try to set your ipaddress manually. Since your router is 192.168.0.1 then input manually this ip address 192.168.0.3 with the subnetmask of 255.255.255.0

5. try to list out for us here some screen shots of how the problem looks like, this would attract other experts to help you.

Meanwhile do an ipconfig /all and copy it for us here to help you diagnose further.

Good luck

PS in your testing, stick to one adapter which is (not the bufullo one) and as you mentioned there are error messages... copy them here for us to see

In case you dont understand, your computer should be getting automatically assigned (called DHCP) ip address by your wifi.router. It does this only when your computer's tcpip settings show

Note below: Where to check the wifi security protocol of your computer and ensure that you have chosen the right one your router is using *and where your password should be stored

Test your asus usb n-10 adapter in another pc/notebook and see whether it is working or not (remember to install the driver that came with it).

If the WIFI adapter doesn't work, get a new one as it is quite cheap nowadays.

guys im trying to run the adapter in another one of my older pc

here're the specs:-

Athlon FX-60
ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe
3gb DDR400 G-skill
Gainward 1gb HD4870
Sapphire 512mb HD4870
Silverstone OP1000w
1x500gb Seagate 7200RPM
Windows Vista Business

I need to run this pc but that hdd is now useless
i have one SSD from Corsair
i was wondering if the s939 board would support the SSD

i have copied the ipconfig etc. using print-screen
will post soon
i have yet to try the ipv4 static ip solution
will try each and every step slowly
sigh...

*update*
i think it's the asus adapter. i tried on my ms windows laptop and my brother's ms windows pc it can connect to the wifi router but no internet access
tomorrow i'll get a new one from tp-link or anything with g and n support

i'll update you guys later
need to sleep soon

but if you guys could help with the SSD question that would be great

The SSD will work just fine on the ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe motherboard.
But offcourse it will only run at SATA 2 speed.

Do remember to switch the SATA mode to AHCI, not IDE.

Your motherboard has lots of PCI-Express slots.
It's best if you use a PCI-Express WiFi adaptor instead of a USB WiFi adaptor.

PCI-Express WiFi adaptor is much more stable compared to any USB WiFi adaptor.

TP-Link PCI-Express WiFi adaptors:
TP-Link TL-WN881ND around RM41.
TP-Link TL-WDN4800 around RM87.

sometimes it's the adapter problem. I have a TP-Link adapter that behaves like that, it shows connected but refuses to load any data.

Simple, your old Asus WIFI adapter spoiled already.
You bought the new WIFI adapter/card, then both of them works.

Ko beli model mana bro?
It's best if you use latest driver provided by the chipset manufacturer instead of the driver provided in the CD or TP-Link website.
