You can try TightVNC

http://www.tightvnc.com/

It's actually a remote desktop utility, but they have this feature where you can be an "Observer" only (you will not be able to control the mouse / keyboard of the remote machine)

But for this to work, you have to ensure the TightVNC client is also installed on the remote computer

Some companies (especially software firms) do actually devleop their own in-house monitoring tools. They are pretty difficult to hack/evade/bypass, if you understand what I mean.

The simplest rule - don't do any personal stuff/business/free lance work at your office

If you want to know who is spying you on LAN, maybe you should "tracerout" and see whether the status of certain ports are linked to "certain" computers--IP.

To some extent i guess you can check with antikeylogger softwares to see whether there is any keyloggers installed on ya pc... There are many anti monitoring softwares and tools as well.. but then dont try to evade your company's monitoring tools.. you might end up in more trouble.

That's wierd. I'm using TightVNC (same as RealVNC I persume) over WiFi network (11 Mbps) and hardly feel the lag.

Use Fast Compression mode too. If I use Best Compression, the quality is horrible.

Maybe you could disable the desktop background image rendering to speed up the transfer. All my server have the quintesential Windows blue colour back. And I always keep the desktop free from icon clutter
