I've always wanted to learn how to play the guitar.
Should I start off with a classical one or electric?
Do I get a teacher?
Any advice?

My usual advice to my friends who wanted to play guitar, start on acoustic/classical guitar, itll teach ur hand to endure the pain..

then, learn a song u like, from there u can learn to switch between chords at the same time feels satisfied with the sound and music u made, it motivates u.

from there u will find ur own path.

I just started to learn classical guitar. The teacher says my left fingernails might be too long to press, which causes I couldn't effectively play the correct sounds. The problem is, I've already tried to cut my fingernails to the max. Any helps for this? Or should I tey to cut my nails furthermore?

ask your teacher, problem is unless you show a picture of your nails, we won't have any idea what to tell you

I'm learning from Youtube and my brother too, my fingers are so clumsy in switching chords. Btw how to use a capo? My friend gave me a capo but I don't know how to use it. laugh.gif

A capo my friend, can do wonders for your guitar. It helps you to reach the chord that you don't know. Look at the chart;

It helps you to reach different chords with simple chords. See the graph above, if you place your capo on your second fret and play a A minor, then you will have a b minor. icon_rolleyes.gif

It's useful for people who are still learning.

Why??

technically what it does is just listing down the fretboard

ie: E string on guitar

E - F - F#- G-.........."compare it to the chart", then for a minor, just add "m"

the chart doesn't add anything, it simplifies things by saying "put capo here get chord there" but because in songs you dont play everything around the capo and have chords going up and down the neck , you need to learn the chords without the capo anyway and how to move chord patterns around the fretboard.

so its kinda you are learning an extra redundant process.
