Hey guys, would like your opinion

Is it wise to go from:

Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC
back to
7D Kit Lense 28-135

I plan to get a dedicated fixed focal.
I'm looking at 28/30mm 'cause 50mm is too close for my taste.

Ye can see in my Toy Whoreing thread of the shots I manage to get with the Tamron

Sekian, terima kasih

50mm and 135mm actually differ a lot?  hmm.gif

if its me 17mm and 28mm is more crucial. furthermore, 17-50 is 2.8 constant

anyway its up to how you use your lens biggrin.gif

50mm and 135mm bo difference meh laugh.gif

one can suka-suka stand far-far behind, the other must jam my way to the front.

kalau fixed focal can go all the way down to 1.8 isn't that better for in-door/low-light/portrait shots

have a deep thought on what you gonna shoot  biggrin.gif

errg.

1. toys
2. amois (studio)
3. cosplay event

The zoom lens is kinda for general purpose walkabout when I'm travelling

I feel that my amoi pics not as crisp as other 'coz not using fixed focal.

who poisoned you that can only get crisp amoi pic using prime? zoom lens can also ma biggrin.gif
if wan sniper amoi then zoom lens better lo, coz sometimes amoi near, sometimes amoi far biggrin.gif

anyway, do you hear whispers of a 50mm or 85mm prime? biggrin.gif
*
50mm or 30mm ler
that day shoot amoi with 50mm 1.8 lens in KL nearly terlanggar kereta coz backing up to get full shot

my camera is crop (7d, later will upgrade to mk2) so gotta consider the 1.6 factor.

If I may, what do you think about having 24-105mm f4L? Gives you the range, as well as the constant aperture. I know it's not in your option, but just in case you haven't considered it. tongue.gif

my dad has that for his 5dmk3 already so I can technically leech it off him

he isn't around most of the time so I gotta build my own gear.

you know the times when you want to ambik gambar amoi but takde gear.
I've taken care of that problem by duplicating some of his stuff

occasionally he'll use my 7d for scenery shooting as he likes that crop can shoot further.

Isn't f4L not enough for portrait shots?
f4L can't exactly produce that super duper blurry background you see in most amoi shots

A little misconception there. portrait isn't all about background blur/ bokeh. face expression/lighting/composition/background elements/ posing play a more important role imo. everyone can create blurred background as long as they have big aperture lens (f1.8 or something), but this doesn't mean good picture.

that being said, even with f4, at 105mm you can still produce blurred background.

for example shots like this (little NSFW due to lingerie) https://500px.com/photo/84753749/anastasia-...m=popular&only=

can still looks awesome with proper lighting and not so blurred background.

but if you are a big fan of bokeh, then the 24-105 might not be the best lens for it. shots like that look good too, but a lot of the time the picture is only left with a lot of blur, that's all.

my 2cents.

EDIT: more portrait with clear background.

Hmmm.
I might need to rejig my expectations when it comes to portrait shooting.

but f1.8 sure comes in handy in those low light environment (convention halls etc)

i like bokeh too biggrin.gif

but bokeh depend on your subject distance from bkg, from u... aperture... focal length... so even a 50mm 1.2 wont give the bokeh u wan if model standing too far away...

so now you got to think, where u most likely take the portraits - indoor ke... outdoor - this will determine your focal length... how far you stand if need full body shot... etc...

so i would suggest you bedah siasat step by step, imagine your scenario and then you start to know which focal length to go for... coz wide aperture lens are aplenty 30,50,85, 135... they all have different ways to use and usability...

definitely flash is important, even for outdoor. coz backlight can be a problem... but depend on your style also... some ppl like to shoot to take out background completely... but then again... bokeh tak nampak lo... furthermore, do you use M mode? if not... more headache to tell tongue.gif

just consider flash in your decision making smile.gif

mak oii hati x tenang eh dunno which one to buy..

donno where to aim then aim forward, which is the obvious position.
