Is there a real strategy game like running a nation but very detailed one.
like manage the economy and also political. diplomatic, etc.....
preferably modern era, not those from prehistoric times and military based.

EU4? There's a discount now on Amazon/GMG and a few other sites.

You'll play from 1400 to 1800s, and able to colonize the new world as well as wage war as any of the historical countries (yes, even in South East Asia). Or do the unification of Japan. Or just choose France and blob all over Europe.

I supposed there is not any game running a modern nation in a very detailed way. There are several games which touch on modern era that focus on various aspects:

Balance of Power (old game in 80s):
A game that focus on political and diplomatic aspects of modern world especially the cold war standoff and the 3rd world. Your option is to decide to grant aids (economic or military) to various countries all over the world and engage diplomacy to increase your influence worldwide and hopefully turn the world towards your favor. But pressure your enemy too much and you started atomic world war. However, it does not model the domestic economy at all and internal politics within your own country.
There is supposedly a modern update for this series call Balance of Power 21st century in 2009. Never play it though.

Hidden Agenda (old game in 90s):
You run a small 3rd world nation that has various groups of populations all having different needs that contradicts the needs of others. You have to walk a fine line to make important political and economic decisions to stay in power as well as improve your nation. Make too many enemies and you will find yourself being toppled by one of the power group or foreign power, even assassinated. However, it does not model international politics and foreign diplomacy much as the focus is solely on a single nation.

Shadow President (old game in 90s):
Never try this as well. Supposedly a game similarly focus on politics and foreign policy. You can give this a look.

President Elect (old old games in 80s), The Political Machine (new game series by Stardock):
It is more about trying to run campaigns to win vote and be elected as the President of USA than a nation simulation.

Civilizations series:
The game does have scenarios that solely focus on modern era. But the model is more abstract, so it might not be what you have in mind.

Some good info here. Have you played any of those games ?

I have tried Balance of Power, Hidden Agenda and President Elect. These are all very different take on how game can be compared to today's mainstream games. But they are also dated in graphics since all very old. And I think President Elect is pure text based. Maybe you can give the Balance of Power 21st century a try, seems to be free as an indie game from Google search. As for other old games, you know abandonware sites are full of them.
