actually, the first original transformer can add a litttle design to make it a comtemporary looks.
Old days transformer's face not ugly wat. They all looks cool, handsome and more "humanoid".
Look at how X-men costume colors.. U will know wat i mean.
btw, if anyone know this Hollyword Chinese Artist Feng Zhu. U will understand why got such current version of transformers. A really great inspired artist. Overall, the director is who decide the final design.haha.
I actually kinda prefer what they did to the X-Men costumes. The original costumes would only work in comic books. Movies are a different thing entirely.

i like the version that were shown on malaysia TV about more than 10 years ago....
i think is a japanese version of transformers where human wearing gold bracelets can merge the the transoformers, the design of the transormers in that series is really awesome, of cause that is kind of expected as japanese have really cooler designs of robots than US dudes....
i think the movie desing should have folow this series design in particular, as is by far the best design i seen of transformers in animation series...
i dun remember the specific name of this series, but i think hardcore transformer fans can enlighten me , thanks
1 specific design i really like was that optimus prime can merge with another vehicle to give himself wings and added weapon choice, looks really awesome

That would be the Headmasters series. Don't remember much about it either. Been a long time since I last saw it.

Trade mark
Intense slow motion shots of characters
Films often feature a US President giving a major speech before a major action is to be committed.
Has the camera moving during most scenes. Very rarely uses static shots.
(2001) His last 3 films all share: a) two male leads at odds with another; b) a cataclysmic event as the narrative's fulcrumic point; c) the film's lead female character has i) been a long-haired brunette, and ii) watched the film's climax from a control room
Actors/characters in his films are almost uniformly shot in tight, emphatic close ups, framed under the hairline and above the chin.
Often uses lightflashes (i.e. lightbulbs and cameraflashes) to enhance scenes.
Often has over-the-top visuals (i.e. key events taking place at sunset or dramatic events taking place behind actors doing routine activities).
Utilizes monotonic but intense musical cues during action-filled car chase scenes. Bad Boys II (2003), The Island (2005)
Frequently casts Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare. The two had both starred in Fargo (1996).
Movies tend to be divided in two acts. The first one establishes the narrative and introduces the characters, allowing them to bond, usually in humorous and/or romantic ways. The second act is a non-stop action sequence.
Add :-At least one shot of the American flag in slow mo.
-Children playing around in slow mo not knowing that the world/America is in danger.
-A bunch of astronaut/pilots/etc.. coming out from hanger in slow mo.
-When US president is giving speech, everyone in the world will be listening through their radio like its the end of the world...hoping that US would save them.
Saw the trailer that they have a shot of a helicopter in the sunset as well.

lol, what did you expect? This is Micheal Bay we're talking about here.

I just hope the movie turns out not just sylish, but entertaining.

I must say the designs need some getting used to, but heck even if they potray Optimus as a moped I'd still watch the movie.
The new trailer is awesome btw. ZOMG cant wait to watch it!
ZOMG !!! A Moped ?!?!?!?!?! I'll kill you !!!!!

Trailers don't need substance. They just need style. And Michael Bay has loads of that. But still, here's to hoping it turns out good.
