In term of gameplay PES 2014 wasn't a failure, it was very playable and decent after string of patches. However outside of the gameplay it got to be the most bland and boring PES ever.
For me it was a failure because their follow-up to the release was very very poor. Online had issues from the get go(I pre-ordered the game) and the roster updates and gameplay fixes took way too long.

As you mentioned, I gave it a go after a few patches, although they did sort out the control bugs and various other issues, it didn't seem like they were dealt as urgently as they should've, and the same issues with goalkeepers and stuff like the catch-up bug still exists to this day.

For the first two-three months I had the game, I didn't touch it at all because of the issues I had with the buggy manual controls. No doubt there is still a bit of the PES magic deep inside the game, but the apparent thing was that the game wasn't released in a good state.

FIFA14 on the other hand, although still pretty much the same old same old, was a whole lot more fun because you had options in abundance in game modes, the online is mature and it was more playable than PES2014 was.

No Current-Gen/Next-gen for PC.

The game will be supposedly a hybrid version with the same gameplay but inferior to the animations and physics engine used on the PS4/XboxOne versions.

Disappointed.

Infinitely better than FIFA, yet some kiddo had the guts to mock me on some other thread.

One thing PES does have nailed on is the player models, and when they're up for it, they can nail down the faces as well. From PES2014, I just found the quantity lacking. After the update they added more faces, but the generic ones that stayed were hideous.

On another note, here's some interesting updates about PES2015 and it's Community Manager.

Well if you want the best PES experience you should get one of the next-gen consoles, but yeah, the ability to mod (which what PES needs to compete with FIFA) will be sorely missed.

'FIFA Is More Like Ping Pong' - PES Devs Smack-Talk FIFA 15

I know the guy is supposed to be Community manager or a marketing position of some sort, but he shouldn't talk smack about FIFA. I can say that PES has had it's ping pong moments in almost every iteration. You don't have to praise your competitors but it's better to just focus on your game's own strengths rather than harp about what FIFA is doing.

Have any of you guys played friendlies/exhibition matches with people from the same country/region? If yes, how is it in terms of the overall online experience?
