the first 2 pricings not bad considering u COULD actually do it up.

but the latter is just expensive

I've check. To buy the Proc alone cost u USD1K.

I'd much rather get one with the X1900 512Mb ATi card...

Rather silly getting so much processor power and then crippling it with yesterday's GPU.

will stay with stock spec. and load in a 7800GTX later.

7800 GTX option not available lah...

...and neither will a off-the-shelf PC PCI-e videocard work in the new MacPro towers.

Your only option would be either multiples of the lame-o NVidia 7300GT, ATi X1900 or the uberl337 and staggeringly expensive nVidia Quadro.

I'm going ATi.

It's for the G5 PowerMac. NOT the MacPro.

... world of difference. The MacPro requires completely different videocards bioses. They are NOT interchangeable.

I know ofcourse. If they can do it on the G5 (still, BIOS flashing). I see it's just a matter of time they bring something even better for Mac Pros.

someone can get 7900GTX running. but that's a bit ugly. but hey, it's just less than a month from launch. there's still long way to go

but was wondering, since i have a raptor hdisk can i just plug dat in and use the other one to be my slave harddisk?

Apple does not make graphics cards. It gets em from ATi and nVidia.

Retail graphics cards (for PCs) are BIOS based. Graphics cards for the Mac Pro need to EFI based. Hence, they will NOT work on the Mac Pro. The presently shipping GPU option for the Mac Pro is the nVidia 7300GT. It is built specifically for the MacPro and does NOT require a power connector. The developer technote for the MacPro is the only place you'll find a picture of the ATi X1900 and this DOES require a power connector. It's not clear however if this is a regular PCIe power connector or a propriety power connector which will again make using retail cards difficult if not impossible.

currently um working as a video editor...but when i wanna become a motion designer i need a good piece of gcard coz the motion depandz on it....sigh*

dis is like my biggest investment maybe, so i want it at bloody least will support pather os....demn i hate nowdays technology..blardy fast

its been 2 weeks now ...everyday using osx @ d'office...um loving it...love the dashboard and the kewlness of motion (i like the the FCP too!)...then smoothness, the transition , the remote bla bla bla

try to fully customize the Mac Pro on Apple's website and you'll end up with a bill amounting to about USD12,000 !!!! That's enough to buy a car man!! Hahahaha....

Some ppl cant wait for new tower update from Apple, and without a doubt they'll order the highest end. Its depend what's ur need is. Many of them are buying for home studio or production use. Where what they producing easily cost few times more than the machine.

simple Q here.. the intel cpu in the macbook and macbook pro is 32bit or 64bit? any estimate as to when the merom is coming?

Its 32bit & no one know exactly when merom MB & MBP will release. All that is rumor on Apple year end product launch.

There's a SIX WEEK delay on the X1900 ATi cards...

What a bummer.

gosh.... what Apple & ATI doing lar...
many US buyer seems to get stock spec just to await the long delay.

Can't see the point of Airport because:

1 The machine can hardly be classified as "portable" - handles notwithstanding.

2. Both the desk at work and at home are right beside gigabyte ethernet hubs

Mac Desktop on the upstairs studio.
Wanna stream/ share vid/music with the Mac on living room to play on TV.
Dont want clutter cables at the moment.

I've had the advantage of renovating a newly purchased house. As part of the rewiring that was necessary, I also laid gigabyte ethernet ready cable into study, bedrooms and living room downstairs. This is all hidden in plaster now and controlled from my study.

A DLink DGL4300 handles the wireless duties as well as the distribution fo gigabyte ethernet to the other rooms in the house. It aslo provides WiFiG to my laptops.

wow nice setup.

anyway. back to topic. the 1st batch of stock 2.66mac pro has arrived on monday. anyone got thier "workstation" already?

actually this Mac Pro already arrived to KL i saw it at my fren work place (Mac Studio) they selling the RM 9999 spec but only few days all the 3 unit are sold

that was just limited stock brought in by the reseller themselve. Official Apple Malaysia stock just arrived early this week and distributed to reseller.

i testing the Mac Pro damm powerful .... i luv that but out of my burget maybe i wanna go for I-Mac 17"

Got my 2.66Ghz MacPro today.

Busy migrating stuff from the PowerBook.

Have it running off my 23" ACD with the WorkRig running the Dell 24".

edited to add: ATi 1900 nowhere in sight. Decided to get the stock config with the nVidia 7300 for now.
