Downlights all done but some belum pasang wire to switches. Living hall L box and downlights still belum siap yet.
Realised that there's some flaws with the downlight, like the light is coming out from the side of the casing kind of thing. Nothing too serious, I still can accept.

Hi princessgalaria

after seeing your pic after installing the plaster ceiling, i see some you use downlights, what do you think if i replace downlights with long light? Not for L box.

good stuff.

looks like what you spent on might be alot but the value is probably 2-3x more than what you paid because of your own effort.

last year i used a 30k budget to transform a cheapo sub 100k flat to have a premium 400k condo feel, of course when you step out of the house reality hits but hey.....home owners don't live on the corridors tongue.gif

Here's a finished product of the living hall.
After 4 days of hectic painting, we manage to cover the entrance, living hall, dining room and room 1. Left with 2 more room and wet kitchen to go.

Both of us and help from my cousin occasionally, we painted the plaster ceiling and walls on our own. Not a princess for sure! My hands are filled with blister now. But the finished product is worth while.

I'm using Jotun. I stated the codes in front page, brown wall is call Orchid.
For plaster ceiling, Jotun's is so so only. I would recommend Nippon's Matex.
For wall paint, Jotun ok la, not too bad.
One advise, buy expensive and good rollers, save a lot of time and paint.
Like for below items actually which is advisable to buy since quoted buy expensive save time in painting and also would be same some money too.

wood
metal
wall

Sorry I don't quite get your questions. You mean which brand should you buy?
I would say all the paints are the same to me, when I asked the shop that's what they told me also ><
But Jotun paint surprisingly not much paint smell.

Yeah, stupid cheapskate rollers... bulu come out keep on sticking on the wall.. LOL, wasted so much time. No more rollers from Mr.DIY tongue.gif still the hardware shops one better, the white with yellow stripes.
Correct, my question is on what to buy for painting for each area? Because we have many brands..so jus want to know from everyone experience which one is much more reliable..not the one paint many times, the result still not good..or painting cant last long (easily peel off)..or heavily smelly

Nippon or Jotun or ICI dulux

because contractor maybe recommend some brand follow which can give them more earning rather than help us for recommendation. so on before hand, i just learn 1st before meet any contractor.

I see.

Plaster ceiling - Jotun (Jota Plaster)  & Nippon (Matex)
Personally prefers Matex
Matex finishing looks much better compared to Jota Plaster

Walls - Jotun Majestic (Sheen White), Jotun (matt paint)
Matt is much easier to paint compared to sheen, and sheen when you don't paint properly, there's like layers that's so obvious .. matt wouldn't have such problems.

I've yet to tried other brands ...
Thanks smile.gif

Yup agree with you. Previously I used Jotun Strax only and for me, no paint smell even on the first day.
They did not even have to advertise this like Nippon Odorless nor do I have to pay extra for odorless paint. The worse is probably ICI.

Yea, I was pretty surprised, painted my whole house and we kept the windows closed for a day, there wasn't much smell afterall. I remember paint use to hv super unpleasant smell.. lol

Hmm, I haven't even completed everything until now bcos we are working and need to accommodate to our limited schedule as well.....

Renovation about 12 days, excluding weekends and then painting with two of us including doors took at least 7 days. Installation of kc took about 2 days as well. I took at least 1 day to clean the whole place up.
Putting up curtain rods would be my next target. Furnishing and buying appliances will take a while more. I'm not rushing to move in, so ideally I said I'm gonna use at least 3-5 months at least to complete everything.

i see..

mostly u install appliance urself?

Yea except for lights and fans, water heater sendiri install but of course not me la, lol my other half who knows how to do all these stuffs. I'm pretty clueless in fact, still learning ...
I do stuffs like cleaning etc.
*
Actually good way if able to install ownself right..can save cost because some work what contractor does also consider simple and easy..just need have 1st start off and once u experience and "feel", you will know what to do after that and soon others can be take up handyman freelance.. hmm.gif

Yea you pay that RM50 to contractor, then in future if there's any issue you also don't know how to solve. If you install on your own, then you can also fix in future. But things with electrical hv to be extra careful smile.gif
*
Correct. But need some one like ur other half can guide u through..it is a good start off. And, also if beginner surely the workmanship sucks a lot.hahahaha...dont worry, practice make prefect. So, got to sacrifice a bit on your own house as training ground. laugh.gif
