Well really depends. Last year during that time there were really heavy snow that causes havoc to the public transport. I would say it will be about 5-10C depending on the time of day.

In January last year, one of the days I was in Tokyo had snow storm. Around the same time of your January dates as well.

Cold or not depends on your own body tolerance. If this is the first time visiting overseas during winter, better prepare lots of winter clothing and protection. Better be warm than freeze your arse off. Prepare waterproof shoes as well in case of snow.

Thank you so much fellow japanese expertise in here, i decide to buy JR pass. Will be using the Shinkansen twice ( Tokyo - Kyoto , Kyoto - Tokyo ) Arrive & departure from Narita Airport. You guys said that to travel around tokyo also can use JR pass.. Going to Ueno also, Gundam statue biggrin.gif

The JR Pass should i buy at airport or buy here because heard that travel agency also sell the JR Pass.. yes the price for JR Pass is around rm900 for now. I can't resist the bullet train experience since its the fastest train in the world. Compare KTM here in Malaysia whistling.gif

Hi, I would be going to hakone using the romance car and the hakone free pass. May i know how do i board the train back from hakone to shinjiku? Cause I did not purchase the romance car from hakone to shinjiku.

Is it a must to purchase it? And if i dont, the type of train that i board from hakone to shinjiku need to stand all the way? Cause im having my aunt and kid with me (age 60 and 6), it will be difficult for them to stand for 1 hour plus
*
As mentioned by bro RC, taking VSE line romance car from shinjuku and back is just so good 890+890 yen. Straight reach hakone yumoto where you start your trip.

Usually you buy your return to shinjuku romance car when you are back to hakone yumoto because you might burn your ticket if you cant make it on time.

A sidenote, tozan railway to gora and tozan bus have normal seating capacity is come with first come basis. It can be filled quickly as people have the same destination as you too. I have been standing in the tozan bus for 1 hour+ cause traffic jam back to hakone yumoto. As a advise you can always wait for next bus or car while the interval of next is fast.

Transportation in Japan ain't cheap. JR Pass can save you a lot of money if you will be using the public transport a lot, especially the shinkansen.

The public transport was also "told" there wont be any big snow storm in Tokyo. In the end it came and they were not prepared for it. So yes, Tokyo very seldom have heavy snow, but with global warming, who knows.

Pokemon Centre, Daimaru Umeda Building, Osaka

As a Pokemon fan since the game was release donkey years ago, I had always wanted to visit the real deal in Japan. As soon as I found out there's actually Pokemon Centre which sells all the Pokemon merchandises in Osaka I immediately set as a must visit place despite my cramped schedule.

From Umeda Sky Building we then walked back to the train station area and headed for Daimaru Umeda Store. The Pokemon Centre is located on the 13th floor with Uniqlo as one of it neighbours as well. There is already a huge crowd in the shop, probably due to the fact that it's on a weekend, with kids being the majority in numbers here (obviously).

It was really exciting to see all the merchandises and stuff which can never be seen back in Malaysia. They even opened up a booth in the store for the kids to try out the new Pokemon X and Y, and boy was the queue to play the game for about 10 minutes crazily long.

Initially I thought I could get some toys back as souvenirs but one look at the price tag changed my mind immediately. The merchandises are here are actually quite expensive, especially after factoring in the conversion rate. It is simply not worth it for a general fan like me. Probably hard core Pokemon fanatics would probably buy one or two home. Having said that I must say the quality of each product is exceptional and worthy if you have the extra cash to spend.

All in all although I didn't buy anything it's quite a good experience to actually see a Pokemon centre and all the lovely Pokemon figurines. Only regret was not trying out the Pokemon X & Y on display. Childhood dream fulfilled!

Question regarding the 3 days Tokyo Metro pass.

When buying the pass, it will be activated at the first use or activate by date?

Example, i buy today, start using tomorrow and expire 3 days later.

or i buy today, use or dont use, will expire day after tomorrow?

Else, if it activate on the first use , can buy more and keep for later usage.
Hope can clarity.

Thanks

Can consider Kansai area pass ,study the route before purchase,
For me, a Icoca card for train and subway is a must, it save the hassle to go to find and walking to main station to buy the bus pass.
Or buy daily bus pass
Or daily subway pass.

From Nagoya to Osaka. Taking normal Train....No way you can reach Osaka. It was very complicated plus you dunno Japanese. You need do alot interchange.

Bus is only choice. Take Willy Express night Bus. Save Hotel money also.
