RegentCid, do you think it's better that I use credit card to pay my hotels when i'm in Japan rather than using cash in terms that the currency rate used by bank will be lower than money exchanger rates, right?
*
i will use cc whenever possible but first ask your hotel whether they accept cc or not

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Nov 10 2014, 11:13 AM)
DOn't used CC. Unless no choice. Bank CC exchange rate always fxxx up one.  Like currently I just order a album from Japan using CC.  exchange rate now just 1000Yen = RM30  but Bank CC exchange rate was 1000 Yen = RM34
Plus service charge summore.......
WTF!!!!
*
Haha on CC i am sifu. What card and from which bank? RM34 is more than 10% fee which is very impossible, unless you get the card charged in MYR? What service charge? The only fee involved is the visa/mc/amex fee and bank admin fee.

Itu Maybank la.  I order Album was 3190Yen  end up RM 97
*
Haha i think it should be from the merchant side. Always pay in local currency and let your bank convert it.

Next year, end of october, which one better for a short 3-4 days trip, Okinawa or Hokkaido?

Human Nature, means it's ok to use c.c? I know the only charge by our bank is 1.25% on overseas transactions
*
Yup, but depends on the current rate that time. If yen suddenly increase back and if you already change at a lower rate, then use cash. 60 days still long way, so you better monitor first. Rate depends, ranging from 1.25 to 3% (amex)

since traveling to Japan no longer requires a visa
does that mean we no longer need to supply infomation such as bank statements, documents, yada yada?

just Malaysian passport alone will do?
*
you are correct! applicable to new passport with the chip only.

Just came back from my 7 day solo Tokyo trip and had a great time. This is just my second solo trip after Singapore. I visited as many places as I can around the city such as Tsukiji Fish Market, Hama-rikyu garden, Shinjuku red light district, Sky tree, Tokyo Tower, Kit Kat store, Yoyogi park, to name a few. Once I reached a particular station I just go around the entire place to look for the place I want to visit without asking for directions and it was pretty fun.
The best part is being on my own and able to do whatever I wanted to do. I even rented my own place in Shinjuku and had the whole 3-bed house with everything to myself. It was also just a few minutes walk to the nearest station passing by lots of stores so you can buy anything.
For a first timer, most of the things went pretty smoothly. Definitely should go for more of these kinda trips.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

search around tripadvisors, agoda, jalan net, japanican still can't decide which ryokan as so many reviews. thought of staying around Hakone-Yumoto station for easier traveling to attractions. planning to try out ryokan at either Hakone or Mt Fuji area (haven't decided yet). i read that Hakone Ginyu have good reviews but price is steep and decor similar as balinese feel. anyone know any good ryokan to recommend? that have outdoor onsen inside room and public outdoor onsen tongue.gif

wah 1 to 2 days.

So let's say it happens during my visit and it was closed. So the only alternative is flight..do you think the ticket for peach will be very expensive if walk in and buy at the counter at airport? Dont want bus.
