i used to surf in lagoon every friday after school when i was in f5 hahaha... thats liek almost 7 yrs back.

then i surfed in cherating every year end during the monsoon. its not difficult as long as u can swim. cos the currents can get pretty strong, u need to paddle hard and also tahan the wipe outs. get the other surfers there to teach u. lots of volunteer teachers if u're a girl hahaa... ppl who say msian waves not suitable for surfing is nonsense. go to cherating this weekend, u'll c about 30 surfers there. a bit crowded.. try to go during weekdays. check online sources for wind/wave forecast. good luck!

I'm a Club Med surfer and a rescuer rclxm9.gif

But that was like 3 years ago. Now no more.

Cherating is a nice place to surf but dangerous too for those inexperience. I remembered one guy, 17 years old drown there and we were called for rescue. Took us 3 days to locate the body which is by then beyong recognition coz of the fishes been eating him up sweat.gif

u cant do much in lagoon cos the pool is congested and the rides are short. its more of a beginner's playground. shud rip it up in the ocean. that's the real deal. get salt water in ur eyes and jellyfish sting u at least once wink.gif

My word of advice for those surfers... if u plan to surf in the sea, please mix around with the locals around there to know the danger zone etc etc... underwater currents and sea caves are a lot. Jellyfishes nah... but sharp corals is a headache as it can tear up ur muscles. sweat.gif

yeah i got stung by jellyfish the first time i surfed in cherating many years ago.. i didnt have pee, so my best fren offered his.. hahaahha.. lucky the restaurant waitress figured out what happened and offered vinegar. hehe.. phew.

anyway the waves in cherating are great on good days. here's a pic of my fren surfing in kijal, about 20 mins further down after cherating.

The wave here during monsoon almost the same as Bali and it's not that rough too. We have this sport here in Malaysia. I'd always hop by Cherating to surf around this time few years back.

Yes, they still have this surfing thingy and you can rent the surfboard. Some can even provide surfing training too. laugh.gif

Indonesia Bali (West) is a nice place to start.

Mentawai(indonesia) is a world class surfing area. thumbup.gif No need spend so much to Australia when we have em nearby and cheap via Airasia.

you'd out to be worrying more on jellyfishes compared to sharks sweat.gif

well, since you're an aussie surfer, mayb some Great White drops by. Most of the time, they avoid humans la. wink.gif
