I am thinking of buying this phablet, but I prefer tablet mode, does it come in native or need to "hack" it?
Native KitKat now or need to upgrade it ourself?
any chance of Huawei upgrade it to Lollipop later?
Anyone selling or can help to point me to a good seller?
appreciate the guide, tks.
Phone or tablet mode depends on the dpi. The earlier 4.2.2 ROMs on 320dpi could maintain tablet mode. There is a beta ROM floating around in XDA that is supposed to be 4.4.2 on 320dpi. Somebody can try that.

Greetings fellow Mediapad X1 users,
I'm a fairly new user here from Saudi Arabia. I knew about the device when I was "summering" in Malaysia. Then bought it here in Saudi Arabia around late September.
I was nothing less than amazed by the efficiency of this device. The flexibility and the technology.. it seemed as though the phablet understood me right away.
I didn't and still don't understand the point in omitting the FM radio since I was eagerly hoping for it to be present.
But overall.. I'm in love with it.
The system was on B003 I'm guessing the one directed to the middle east market. Sadly I can't find the firmware file nowhere online not even on the Huawei portal site itself (talk about efficient support).
I tried upgrading to kitkat.. but the fact that I'm suddenly forced to suffer from a 400 dpi was a big issue for me, even though I tried tolerating it. It just didn't seem as "classy".. made the phablet look like a cheap oversized phone.
That plus I actually noticed the whole experience became very laggy and buggy. Not at all smoother than on B003 JellyBean. The B003 even scored higher on average on antutu (27000+) than any other Rom did (21000+).
I know for certain that the phablet started behaving STRICTLY as a phone. This was clearly evident through Swype Keyboard. Since it has two different layouts for tablets and phones and I'm familiar with both. On all B007, B008 and even on B102 I've faced the same issues. That plus the WiFi signal drop issue as well.
I was left deeply disappointed. Even more right now since I can't see no updates to mention.
I've gone back to the Western European B003 since its the closest to the middle eastern one and I can't find that one, unfortunately.
Sadly enough.. I have to live with the bugs in this firmware.. most annoyingly the apps closing completely after turning off the screen for a long time even though the apps should be "protected". This means I can be sent a message on kik or WhatsApp but I'd never know unless I manually open the app every one and then.
I'm truly hoping a "redesigned" and improved kitkat update rolls out, which I highly doubt. Or to find a way not to let the phone act strictly as a phone... or evenr that a lollipop update rolls out soon and improves over all previous roms
Hi welcome.
This thread really has lots of international participation. I guess this is due to the lack of other avenues globally for this wonderful device, and this thread seems to be the most active one for the X1.
I think one perspective is that whatever software version it is, being stuck on "older" software does not make it any less functional.
Assuming Android L doesn't come the the X1, it does not make it a worse device. All functions are still present. At worst, some conveniences may be missing or in reduced functionality.
One of the groups to watch are the Russians, as they have an active modding community. Once Huawei releases the kernel sources for this SoC, there should be custom ROMs coming.
I got my original Mediapad modded to 4.2.2 by ONE single Russian dev.
We can all hope.
