Well, BB owned QWERT keyboard! No one can touch them.

Anyway, seriously considering getting a BB. Today, I got screwed by my S3. Phone went dead because of flat batt. Went back office to get it recharged. After a few min, turned the phone ON and ......ALL my contacts were lost! 2nd time. Now don't know how to restore my contacts.

Hate this stupid phone!

I would recommend you to wait. The z3 LTE version is quite awesome. It should be worth if you are looking for a sub rm1000 phone. Really worth it. If you are willing to stick to proven, tried and true BlackBerry then the q20 would arrive I think in November.

The passport will arrive in September, but it's really worth trying out first. Even as a pro BlackBerry guy I would recommend you to wait and see at these new devices first.

Wow!, You really sounded positive about the phone! I'm planning to get the ageing Z30 but maybe like what you said, let's wait and see.

The current Z3 is supposedly "worse" or "low end" to the Z10. The 3G version.

But Z3 3G > Z10 3G. I'm not joking.

this is with a supposedly "inferior" processor, and a .5GB lesser RAM.

The newer Z3 + LTE will have upgraded processor (faster speed), 2GB of RAM, and 8mp camera (as opposed to the current 5mp camera). It would be "in between of Z10 and Z30". A cheaper Z30 to be exact.

and its below RM1000. For a communication device, you can't beat that price with that specs. I'm sure it would be below RM1000, just not sure how low. maybe RM800.

Sure, it wouldn't be 'amazing' compared to a Xiaomi Mi3, or some Oppo devices, but against most other phones, you can't beat communication, the connectivity, and the battery life.

I mean, when has a smartphone really behaved like a phone these days? That serves the primary functions as to communicate first, then help to organize things, then help to make work easier, then only entertainment, and still be below RM1000? (for a supposedly low end that's a lot more better than competition's "low end")

The high end Passport, you'll either love it or hate it. But if anything goes, there's always the Q20. The tried, tested and proven formula of a workhorse, in a Bold form and function.

Z3 LTE at RM800 (if that's the price), no second thoughts!

Hope it's true. I just feel like throwing my S3 into a trash bin now!

With a smaller RAM, will Z3 experience lags when running apps? My main worry coz nowadays, smartphones are apps intensive. Just hope it won't be laggy like my S3.

The short answer: no lag.

Long answer: Unlike other phones or the older operating system, BlackBerry adopts a system of run now, wake on notify system.

Basically, in the Z3, you can have 4 simultaneous things OPEN, and running. Unlike the Z10. As in 4 active frames. In 10.3 this limit is increased to 8.

Additionally, the coding system is in such a way that when you close it, only the headless portion is running (notifications, but not the program per se). When a system slows down (which is possible), the OS will determine what apps to kill by its own. When I say kill, as in real process kill, and it will never be awaken, unlike Android where some process can be killed, and some can't), but you can always restart them, or force "run" (pin to active frames)

In Android, some apps are notorious for running behind the scenes despite not open, such as FaceBook. Some apps cannot be killed (google Apps that continuously mine and log your data about you), and some refuse to die (like FaceBook, you just kill it and it will re-appear, despite already process killed) .

In BlackBerry, it is very difficult to achieve this effect. Once its killed, it can only be revived when there is a trigger such as time, notification, or place (geofencing), or when user triggers the app. This feature is expanded in 10.3

It will be, because BlackBerry can run Android apps just as fine. In fact the APKs will be gotten from Amazon Store, so its up to date with the ones from Amazon Store. It won't be usable with Google Play services, but it will and can have the most up to date version when people update from Amazon App Store.

Bro, you really know BB! rclxms.gif

You make me wanna get a BB even more; although many friends are laughing at me for wanting to go back to BB. Kept reminding me about my 9700.... cry.gif

Will BB's experience running apk files be any worst than a Android?

I dare say better Android than Android.

(if you play apps like Clash of Clans that uses Google services, matai lah)
(but if you use apps downloaded from Amazon Store... /GG Its a better Android than Android.

if you're a user that emphasizes on communication, BlackBerry is definitely the best choice out there.

Like I said, APK files from Amazon will come only after 10.3 (for Q20 and Passport) and 10.3.1 for Z10, Z3,Z30,Q10,Q5

In terms of typing, no phone that I've used so far come close to my 9700. That's a fact. Only thing is keeps on lagging. That's why I changed to Samsung. At that time, Samsung was the 'IN' phone while BB is..... well, how to put it.... a laughing stock.

BTW, BB world for my old 9700 can't be used anymore? Try updating some apps in 9700 but can't!

don't worry with or without BBM. BlackBerry's methods of emphasizing on the communication makes you a champion when you use the phone to communicate.

By the way, I can run 2 instances of BBM, WhatsApp, WeChat, and few others. kekekekeke.
Valid via BlackBerry 10.

kekekekeke.

This might be the phone BlackBerry needed to boost up their sales back. In my Opinion, who used to own BB9780, I changed to Android because I feel old BB is outdated and Android offer much more features that is useful in my daily life.

When BB release OS10 phone, Q10, Z10 and Z30, I ask myself, why would I change back to BB. Z10 and Z30 which are full touchscreen phone(i used bb bcz of physical kb) but has lower spec compared to my Android phone, I might just keep using my Android. Who cares about OS10 bla bla bla, smartphone for average user do the same things. Then the Q10, I really want to get it because I want phone with physical keyboard, but then, from the outside, people will think Im using the old BB9900 because there are no big change other than the OS. Yeah I care about what people think of my phone, because I just spent 2k on it.

This BB Passport is great because it has wow factor, when I first look at it, I was like, wtf, what phone is this, so different. A phone for a freak?? This is what I want lol. Hopefully it will comes with great software support. I kinda feel sad sometimes when people look down on BB user, because I know BB always deliver quality products. Never own OS10 phone, so cant comment more on the software part..

The square isn't crap actually.

Makes sense when you look at certain angles. I'm going to pull BlackBerry's explanation, and then offer some thoughts.

First, you have to see this and let them explain the thought behind the design:

http://blogs.blackberry.com/2014/07/passport-design/

Then, if you ask, why not add a toolbelt and do a belt and call it a day? (like an enlarged 9900), because it wasn't the idea of them doing that, and it'll be silly in terms of wasted real screen size estate and real functionality hindered by the fact that the 9900 was deliberately engineered for single hand use in any way.

I don't think the Passport was designed to be single handed use. The keyboard itself is capacitative, hence making it to be a built in trackpad. It also serves to be used as a gesture keyboard . What are these gestures, nobody knows, and nobody knows how its supposed to work. But BlackBerry have hinted that its going to feel like a Z keyboard than a Q keyboard (Z as in Z10, Z3, and Z30).

I won't comment on they keyboard until I've seen live action of it, because people have condemned the Z10's keyboard when it was demo-ed UNTIL they tried it and found it to be REALLY amazing.

I really love dark mode! I use it on my WhatsApp and my friends keep noticing it. biggrin.gif it looks cool, and a refreshing nice touch to the bright ones we are accustomed to nowadays. Also, it helps prolong my Z30 battery life. Dark theme/mode is da bomb, man! Haha. Like when I read in CrackBerry, even Z10 users wanted them even though it's not really gonna help in the battery life term.

yup just registered, the bb classic will be announce together right? but still passport looks way more sharper biggrin.gif
why they removed the typical tracking pad or ball that previous gen bb used, there's the selling point of bb beside the qwerty keyboard

Think of it as a virtual keyboard that has been made physical. Its actually touch-enabled. I mean, touch-sensitive-enabled. (or how its properly said?)

the touch ability/features of BB10 is already enough to replace the trackpad/toolbelt for me biggrin.gif plus, the keyboard is just too awesome the device is gonna explode of awesomeness if they do include those toolbelt buttons too wub.gif

That's because Todd Wood (the guy who designed all of BlackBerry's devices from the Bold up to the PlayBook, before BlackBerry 10) left. He did left his masterpiece in BlackBerry 10 line up, his last being the BlackBerry Z30

haha, I wouldn't say ugly, it's more bordering on the side of perky-and-unique biggrin.gif tongue.gif me too, but given the specs I think it might be around or higher than Note 3 when it first comes, given the fact that it is a risk innovation-wise. and BB kinda needs the increasing profit tongue.gif but cheers on BB for daring to take a leap! rclxm9.gif rclxms.gif

Anything above RM1.2k will hard to find owners given the BB brand is considered a 'not cool' device....

Just hope that the local distributor could price it aggresively to capture whatever market left for them here.

We'll have to see how Singapore and Indonesia prices it.

So far so good under the new leadership the price, for example on Z3 is consistent.

BB Malaysia has been KOed by the influx of Android devices, esp from China.

No idea how these Chinese do it, good specs, great hype and super value. People just buy without even sometimes consider much, knowing the price they are paying offers good value.

BB really needs to revamp their pricing structure. I know they offer great security bit layman like me don't really put security in top of the list. Just want a good phone with great experience and value for money. As for apps, I don't need a million apps to download but needs essential apps like maps, some games to stay entertained and social apps.

Anyway, I'm waiting to see how Passport is being priced here. Fingers Xed!

As much as I really like BlackBerry, I think you have a point here. Maybe if they have more marketing gimmicks like iP and Samsung people would realise the better value they're getting with BlackBerry devices and wouldn't mind the price as much as they do now.. I think..

That's the biggest problem for BB in Malaysia is that the marketing is next to zero!

Look at those Android phones and iPhone. Teasers, online blitz etc....

They're creating curiosity, thus the market is eager to see them being launched. For BB..... Zzzzzzz Nothing!

BB should counter the 'BB sux coz lack of apps' aggressively. Ya, Android has millions of apps but to me, most of it are just craps. Certainly won't find more than 40 apps in most phones. I only download what I need which is about 10 apps only + a few games.

For RM2.5k, 80 out of 100 will go for either note 4 or ip6. Another 19 will be ended up with HTC, nokia, sony, xiaomi and etc.

The last one standing will be among us, who still having hopes with BB, no matter what.

Blackberry as a phone company has to wake up and see their strong selling point is the OS itself, not the outlook of the phones. Many out there have not seen or not aware of the features of BB10, and yet BB expect them to jump on and being sold.

Pricetag might not be the first thing in mind for the consumers, especially the target audience for BB is still the business users. How many others will concern about the security of their data, chances are, they don't even care/know.

The smartphones are now entering a very uncertain era, where the makers have to take every single aspect into consideration, from price to features, from screensize to endurability.

I personally don't think the launch of BB passport/classic will make any greater impact compared to Z10/Q10. If BB loves a comeback, they will have to try harder.

Agree! Security is important but how many smartphones users actually care about this. Look at Android... virtually all apps needs access to phone/personal data yet people still download their apps like crazy!

While biz users don't see pricetags as their main concern, majority of us will. Phone choices is basically limitless in the RM2k bracket and I'd say even at RM1k+, we can actually get a very decent spec phone.

To tap the market, it's a very hard for BB since they have lagged so far behind esp to Android and Chinese makers. Maybe BB is now targeting niche market rather than the masses.

Ya. It's selling for €599 which is about RM2500. Well, just too bad. Maybe gonna wait til it's offered on contract.

But then again, in Europe they're offering it inclusive of VAT. MAybe without VAT, it's 15% cheaper or so.... Let's see how MY price it. I foresee it'll still be in the RM2k bracket and scare off a lot of people.... cry.gif

Well there are 2 newer models, The Passport is of course, cutting edge, so the price is higher.
The Classic should be much more affordable.

Let's see how it's priced here. Below RM1.8k, perhaps? That would be a steal but still hard to penetrate our 'Android/iPhone' is the best market.

Priced at RM2k or below would be a real bargain. Let's hope that this time BB play it right.

That picture shared by neorage_X has been circulating since last week in BBUGMY and weibo, on the launch date. I am for one really surpised on this.

Blackberry price cheaper USD$599 to attract corporate users but
iPhone is only USD$699... add $200 and get the latest iPhone.

Those BB execs must be crack.
Keep in mind the Apple ecosystem of iTune, Apple Pay, watch, iCloud and
its trendy, and desirable instead of the .... 'struggling' blackberry.

@ rm2399 - that's way too expensive, even for business users! looks like its a euro pricing they're following, not US. even canadians are making lots of noise as they feel shortchanged for CAN$699.
the company still hasn't truly learn fr their past marketing blunders..sad. sad.gif

RM2399. Crazy pricee.
Blackberry Malaysia dig their own grave. With that price, you can buy Note 4, Sony Z3 and Iphone 6 16GB.

Bad move blackberry. Only hardcore fan will still buy. Btw, Celcom is the first telco that will bring in this device

i am a hardcore fan , also business user, planning new upgrade also for company staff. the price is a set back as blackberry the company is still seen as ' on life support; ie 24 months ahead of wait-n-see future'. throwing 2.3k+ in this state is not economically strategic, the least to say, even with incentives. the downtime is freq on current os, the 10.3 update is pretty buggy as of yesterday on the unit , bb blend seems unfinished, medical imaging apps (tho looks impressive on video) still trails apple offerings. on the personal side, this is expensive!
Probably chen made nego with goverment side as they have an upgrade cycle of 24 months for upper rank employees. provided apple hasnt got the best of the deal earlier..

our telco never do true cheap plan; there's always a catch.
i guess i'll buy as personal unit but i'll wait out till the price drop , again, as with z10/q10 - by 3 months time. sad. sad.gif

i don't think the Passport's target market is those who wants a lot of apps and those extra features..
their main target are those who wants physical keyboard for ease of typing (magnificent keyboard tongue.gif ), safety..
mainly businessmen and enterprise users who wouldn't care much on price compared to safety.
plus, i think the price is right for the innovation they do with the touch sensitive keyboard.. although yeah, unfortunately it does not feature the flexible display like the new iPhone does tongue.gif whistling.gif

yeah.. in the end it all comes down to personal preference.. and money.
if you have 3.4k and wanna go for the iPhone, it's your money, others don't have the right to put you down because of it.
the same goes for if you wanna spend 2.4k for a Passport. it does have 13mp camera, specs and features like other high-end androids have, perhaps it's the special keyboard that makes the price a little higher.
each manufacturer have their own fans, so why not right? nod.gif

just BB is not dead yet, there are still potential buyers for them. plus their target market is different than those of iPhone's. that's what i mean.

Its just that when BB roll it out, the said its cheaper than iphone to attract corp.
But If its just few hundred different, most people will choose the best phone in town.

I have to say, BlackBerry nailed it this time. Though I ain't a big fan of BB, but this Passport is awesome! Design wise, super cool! Well, maybe because I like square a lot than any other shapes.... laugh.gif

Full QWWERTY keyboard with touch sensitive controls. wub.gif OIS equipped camera. Kinda lots of good stuff in this.

BlackBerry really done it this time with the Passport. I'm tempted to save up for it. But then it probably won't fit any of my pockets with the awkward shape lol. The keypad is to die for. I'm still waiting for OS 10.3 to roll out from DiGi.

I don't have a passport.

Also, "Is that a Passport in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

lol. I think it will fit but I'm not sure if I want to put it in my pocket. If I'm wearing a suit with an inner breast pocket though, that's a different story. It would look awesome pulling it out from my suit.

Contrary to most opinions, I think the price is worth the product. They've polished up the BB 10 os in the 10.2, and now with the 10.3 it's even better. The user experience is heightened from the OS alone already, add a touch enabled keypad with it and gesture control on the keypad itself? I'm sold.

Most people who I talk with that doesn't prefer BB over other brands simply haven't been exposed to the experience themselves. Or at least the newer devices with BB 10 OS. The integration between apps, even with Android apps is amazing. I can select a picture and upload into Instagram, that's cross-platform integration we're talking here. Ain't nobody got that. I got my Z10 STL100-1 for RM550. That's a steal for this kind of OS maturity.

It measures to be roundabout the same as my wallet, just that my wallet's thicker.
So I don't think there'll be much trouble fitting it in most pockets wink.gif

My concern is how usable will this device be with one hand (not for typing of course, just general browsing or reading mails etc).
I was initially thinking of getting the Classic, but with the recent hype over the Passport, I might still be swayed.

This picture, (taken from CNET review), from someone who's been using a Z30 and BlackBerry, is AMAZING. Seems like reviews on it are mostly positive, too smile.gif except for the width, I guess.

I guess I'm sticking with my opinion. The price is worth the upgrades we'll be getting. I just wish my Z30 has a more decent camera performance.. and oh, 10.3 too brows.gif

Speaking of 10.3, how significant is the battery improvement over 10.2?

Quite a lot actually, with or without Blend.

UI interaction is different, and the add-on features is a lot as well.

For start

: dark themes for most part
: contacts and cloud syncing (check info on your contacts based on cloud services)
: BlackBerry Assistant is able to connect to a lot of core services (almost all) and can be manipulated to interact with other services (there's an API for that)
: upgraded Android RunTime Player.
: unlimited number of headless apps
: universally more APIs for headless apps, including bigger memory consumption allowed.
: Amazon appstore (Amazon services not sure)
: readiness for BES 12

Device specific enhancements

Z3: up from 4, now 8 active frames.
Passport: all 8 active frames will manipulate size, fit into single window.

don't remember other things.

If you feel like it, you can buy it.

price probably won't drop, until December, or maybe even next year's January.

Read a few online reviews. Most are saying the shape and sharp edge is a big turn off and difficult to use due to it's wide profile. However, they're saying it's screen is one of the best for reading and visual is very good.

Also I think the 3 rows keyboard needs some time get used to as many reviews said it's not so user friendly (since I think most are so used to 4 rows)

Let's see how it goes from here....

A well spec phone but I'd say the pricing will be a major consideration since BB is NOT a first choice consideration for most users. May be appeaing for those biz users but for most, with that kinda money, there's too many options out there.

Maybe Classic will be more affordable.

I would not need a speaker.. But if they gave case for the passport or something premium would be great.. I guess we just have to wait till next week.. Imma think to buy it contract or just the phone it self lol.. 10 Oct seems too late.. Why can't it be like on the launching date gosh

I personally find the hard shell case will be greatly reduce the said turn off. cool2.gif

The selling point is the touch sense keyboard and its 1:1 screen, those who loves something with cutting edge this will really do.

What's not to like about the size... like McD kid's size.
Should have sync with the launch of OS 10.3
And launch price ... like IPO, wait for correction

Anyone knows if the Passport has Paratech Antenna like z30?

For BB to survive, they need more than to take pot shots at iphone6
They need a 3rd trick...

It was claimed with Paratek antenna, the phone will have better receptions and also faster data transfer. No idea if it's true or not.

I think design-wise, it's not a con for Passport. Nowadays all phones look the same glass slab, the Passport would give a fresh insight. And a good conversation starter tongue.gif it would make the owner so I unique compared to other when taking it out on public.

I know a lot of people already got it the first day it landed in Canada and UK.

And speaking about the so called "weird square" screen...

The one thing a lot of people have been ignorant about (or rather not speak about it) is that the screen makes it the best "instagram camera" out of the box.

Actually, no one is innovating anything anymore.

Iphone's market share has also dropped significantly throughout the years.

What's amazing is those saying blackberry is dying. 4 years ago dying. 4 years later also dying. Then 4 years into the future will also die. Eventually when we are dead, blackberry is still dying.

It doesn't really matter if the phone company you're using is dying. All phones nowadays has only a life expectancy of around 2-4 years max. Hypothetically speaking if BlackBerry dies in 2016, there's not much impact on the users. BB users will still be buying a new smartphone after around 2-4 years. And if BB does die by then, just buy another phone.

Bottom line is, BlackBerry is producing good quality products with good support currently. Hindering oneself from buying at the fear of "They're a dying company" is just limiting yourself from getting a new experience in using a different product. Get a BB 10 OS phone and you have both BlackBerry and Android. That's a bargain. They die in the near future? Buy a new phone.

Well, a dying company still standing there making great phones.....

Many written off BB because BB doesn't appeal to casual users that rates gaming or social apps more important than productivity. That's why BB are not well received here. Also, BB's ecosytem doesn't have millions of apps which means, it's a 'useless phone'.

Anyway, unless there's a price drop (significantly) I'll wait for Classic and see how. Or maybe even go for a 'Z' model.

Good point about buying new BB because of its financial status or whatever.

Frankly, IP6 is not ground breaking like it was and Samsung phones won't make it pass two years without its motherboard being cooked.

I never used much apps so I don't miss having too many apps. Anyway I played with Google play store and iTunes before and I feel that a lot of the apps are useless apps, at least in Malaysia its not as useful as overseas.

I have never used a phone pass two years as anything two years ago, the battery performance would have dropped or there will be some new technology. There is nothing breakthrough about the phones nowadays anyway.

I will just buy what I like and currently my heart is still with blackberry. No fuss no frill no problem.

exactly my opinion right now. i can literally feel my eyeballs trying to roll up when people bash BB on their app ecosystem when they don't even use more than 40 apps at one time mostly. plus my BB went down jalan tar 3 times with only bumper case, one deep and several minimal scratch. my samsung fell not quite hard like that and the sound from loudspeaker pecah like shattered glass.

maybe if I keep using it for 2 years I'll have to change the battery, but other software and hardware I think BB is really killing it.

The point is valid though.

BlackBerry users can access Amazon apps, and almost all Android apps.

heck, we can even installed a crippled version of Google Play Services (ROFMLAOWTFLOLWUT?) and make some apps that normally don't work without Google Play Services actually work, e.g: Ingress.

The app gap argument is already invalid, and with the recent move on 10.2.1 to 10.3 and 10.3.1 transition BlackBerry is taking matters into their own hands, by building and baking in power tools when they could have just leave it to the developers to do it (which is actually quite a lucrative market).

And when you got like 100,000 to I don't know, million apps? What's being used for? Its not transferable nor can you cram all that into one machine.

I don't see it any "inferior".

As far as I'm concerned, the lack of Google Play Services is something the company self-imposed for good reasons in regards to income, security and privacy, as well as design philosophy.

4 more days, Celcom branches in Klang Valley area should have it. If you need one, i really suggest you talk to the people at www.bbugmy.com

These guys are hardcore BlackBerry enthusiasts and they're tough enough to eat nails and ask for seconds. If you really want to get a set, you can talk to Nelson Rizal of that group. I assure you, he's a legit guy and once you know his credentials I think you can agree.

If anyone's expected to have a Passport unit, he's going to be the first, if not one of the earliest.

Oh yes, Nelson Rizal. I've met him in person before when I got some Z10 accessories from him.

But if it's just another 4 days to go at Celcom branches, I guess I can wait.

Exclusivity is with Celcom, but normally Maxis will also have it if sales are encouraging. They did carry the previous models before. This time, as usual, first launch exclusivity is with Celcom.

Actually Celcom's launch will be "get one now from Celcom" but also "pre-order official warranty sets". I'm not sure how long Celcom has exclusivity, but word has it between 1-2 weeks.

Same case with Z30, but when it was Z30 they were smart enough to actually regionalize it, such as KK for Sabah, Kuching and Miri for Sarawak, and certain places in Klang Valley. I forgot if Penang and Johor had its launching at the same time or not via Celcom.

Serious I will download a lot of apps from Google or iTunes but in the end dint use them at all. That's my idea of useless.

I tried downloading those recommended apps but also find that it isn't useful at all.

Those apps are not gonna transform my phone into anything special. In the end its just a phone. That's how I look at it.

Bought it at blue cube midv. Was told that klang valley no longer have stock for now. Anyway, my mini first impression below.

Reachability
Its huge. One handed operation is very limited. Gone are the days where one handed texting is possible. As a right hander, I couldnt reach the QAZ keys.

However, the great part of the size is the screen. Reading, browsing, chatting is life changing. The downside is I can no longer click links which are situated top left. Even tapping on the tab browser is a challenge.

Back panel
I prefer the glass weave as opposed to the rubbery feel on the passport. The back is somewhat a dust magnet. Lints and dust tends to stick to the back.

Pocketability
Definitely a challenge for me. Edges are sharp. I dont feel comfortable pocketing this device.

Keyboard
Definitely need some getting use to. The wider keypad makes the thumb travels further for each key. I am actually typing slower as compared to my q10. Alot of thumb dancing going on.

The spacebar in the middle actually doesnt feel weird. I got use to it pretty quick.

Touch sensitive keypad
Nice. Very nice. Works like a trackpad.

Overall
No way I am going back to my q10 muahahahahahha.

Yes. Just a few months ago, when I want to subscribe Digi, the girl who served me tell me, I have to subscribe BIS because she saw I'm using BlackBerry.

Meaning that even isp staff at front counter also did not know that.

RAGE!

Maxis doesn't sell!

But ohwai-

You Passport holders! I'm so jealous!

By the way you should invest in a case. There are some very good bumper cases.

And oddly, SIRIM decided that their stickers are pasted right below the BlackBerry icon behind the phone. At least better than Apple lah kan?

It feels solid!

I prefer the feel of the keys to the q10. Not so plasticky.

The steel band is very nice. Makes the phone rigid.

My only dislike is the backing as i really do prefer the glass weave.

Since Maxis has tweeted that they won't be bringing in BB devices anymore, for those using BB10 devices on their network, will Maxis still release the OS update release?

Just wondering.

Should not have to worry. We have other methods to update anyway.

And if you're on 10.3, if you buy a phone unlocked, it will have OTA updates direct from BlackBerry, irregardless of carriers.

There are plenty of images of size comparison with other smart phones.

I think PP is only slightly wider than Note3, but the sharp edges seems to be the main concern over here.

About whether can fit into front pocket(men shirt), the name of the device tells it all. Shouldn't be any problem I think.

If you're not intending to sell the Note 2, no hurry to get either.
I'm assuming that you're having budget enough to buy a Passport (RM2399) max, or get a Padfone (about RM1200?)

If I'm greedy, I'll take the Z30 (RM1200) and also Padfone (so total for the same price of a Passport)

XD

Yes i have the budget to get passport 2399, Padfone S attract me because of the tablet.
if get z30 and padfone, then it will be hard to use, coz the phone need attache into the tablet only can use.

If you need a tablet + handphone combo, and since you're not selling the Note 2 (i presume you have knowledge of custom ROMs / Xposed and all that hanky panky), then I suggest a Passport instead, or a Z30 + Lenovo Touch 10 / HP Pro x or Dell Venue Pro [all legitimate powerful windows 8.1 2-in-1 that rivals MSFT Surface Pro]) for the same price, which I think you'll be satisfied (they got REAL stylus to boot, and you can also use the tablets with BlackBerry Blend, which is a PLUS!)

that's just my opinion though ohmy.gif

Price drop? Well, I find it wierd that BB is a 'dying' brand in Malaysia but their pricing still quite solid (for new phones). Don't know why....

I was hoping for the Z30 to drop like a brick but still holding strong.... :'(

Really wanna dump my S3. Driving me mad with it's super lag features.

This is how they priced it over SG telco, M1.

https://www.m1.com.sg/personal/mobile/phone...rt%204g%20black

What's the fuss? Malaysia telco seems leeching the max out the Rakyat if you compared dollar 2 dollar.

Yeah, no chance Z30's price is gonna drop any much more than it already has. For that price it's appropriate for what you get, and less lag-prone compared to android phones around its price range. I know cause my sister's note 3 already lag quite a lot, and my Z30's older than her note 3 by almost a year.

And really, still with the dying brand topic again? Just dump the living S3 and buy the dying yet still eyed-on by people BlackBerry Z30 already.

This one is unavoidable. Normal Maxis (@Maxislistens) claimed "no more". Then the Business side of Maxis (they run corporate accounts, which has different rates than normal consumer rates) at @MaxisComms suddenly made a U-Turn and said yes.

What do you expect of a company that doesn't even have a proper unified answer?

Super damn fast. My Z10 always received an email first rather than my desktop version. The other thing, while i'm still in email drafting on my desktop, it will immediately auto reflect/draft into my mobile. For EMAIL feature, i think nobody can beat BB. cool2.gif

One thing about the passport. The screen is so huge that it is getting swiped in my pocket. This has happened a few times.

It's like when I took my phone out, many apps have opened and somehow it managed to find its way to the settings.

I have password enabled, but needed 1min before it locks. So even if I sleep the device and put in my pocket, there is a 1min time where accidental swipes could activate the phone before the password lock kicks in and thus, doing funny things to the phone.

I disabled the swipe to wake function immediately.

nah, they have failed once, and I expect them to fail twice. BlackBerry being bought by Lenovo is kind of ludicrous, unless the value they table is USD100 per share.

Most units are sold out through prebooking. I'm waiting post 1st November when it is widely available to all carriers and Malaysia BB stores.

Well, if it's worth it than why not. My incopio hard shell Z10 case I buy at rm160. It's has been protecting my beloved phone well. Perhaps you should invest in its protection as well.

Yeah probably the same.. But iphone know people always want to buy it.. So they are well prepared and make lots of it.. But Blackberry is different because they're afraid that their stock will not be sell that makes them loss in profit

I share your concern too. Being an avid iPhone user for almost 3 years and Blackberry user for almost a month, believe me when I said the transition won't be smooth if you're going to use the BB as your main phone, especially in the App department.

On the bright side, you're definitely going to change the way you use your smartphone and have a significant productivity boost :-p

ive googled this and thare are lots of contradicting opinions regarding this matter. does anyone here have an explanation or accurate information regarding this situation?

Well, I've been a proud user of BlackBerry for a long time, however I do have another iPhone as my secondary phone. No one can beats BlackBerry in terms of communication, messaging, email and productivity. If you are really business focus, you will not regret getting the Passport.

It is safe. As long as u use original charger or reputable/brand charger.

Never leave your battery less than 20% charged. Over heat/heat will also kill a battery faster.

Well I'm not a business user nor i am the conventional user. I always prefer a phone with qwerty just that nobody seems to want to build such a phone anymore.
I've never used BB but passport reminds me of treo650.. my all time favourite.. and considering i also like my old n900 (maemo) very much, passport is really like a match in heaven for me: aspect ratio and handling of a treo with os akin to maemo..

Gonna switch from my note2 to passport. smile.gif

P.s.: for all the complaints about video and media in letterbox, i can always use my tablet for that. Cheers.

Frankly speaking, I am never a fan of saturated AMOLED screen until I decided to watch some dark scene movie such as Dawn on the Planet of the Apes on my Z30 yesterday on my bed in total darkness. When watching the same video again on my iPhone 4 the back light bleed really kills the scene. You just got to compare them side by side to see the differences. Watch any movies on Z30 for at least have an hour and then view it on LCD display, you'll be shocked to see the grayish color on the LCD. Then again, the only place where I found AMOLED display to shine is when it is displayed in total darkness, which I doubt most of us did since it's bad for our eyes. In regular case like outdoor or under the sun usage, nothing beats LCD.

Here beg my question. To all Passport users out there, what do you think the contrast of its LCD display. I've read some users report the blacks are even worst that iPhone or Samsung LCD alike.

Finally played with it at a Celcom store. Really like it a lot. Size is just nice for me as i normally have both hands on my phone. Thought it might be heavy just reading the spec sheet alone, but actually it felt sturdy, and weight is just nice for me. Screen is nice, bright and sharp. Contrast is good, at first glance seems on par with my amoled screen. Now although amoled has deep black, they tend to have gradient issue if not tweaked well, which results in blocky black when view in all dark environment. For browsing, lcd is still better for me. Too bad the unit at Celcom is not connected to internet so can not try out the browser. Additional width is definitely welcomed but wondering if the shorter height would be an issue. Anyway gonna get one once my existing digi contract ends. smile.gif

By the way, i did feel a bit warm on the right side of the phone. Wondering any passport owner can confirm if it gets real warm during normal usage and during charging?

I am aware about this issue too on CrackBerry forum. Does it only happened while charging and using? I believe it would have gradually subside when idle hmm.gif

It gets warm only at the top right corner when doing intense workouts - gaming, syncing your large work mailbox for the first time, the like.

Which is not much of an issue because you're not gonna hold it at the top right corner anyway.

Normal usage doesn't get warm. Not for me at least.

Wow congratulations on your new purchase. So envy of you. I'm actually thinking of purchasing it but afraid the physical keyboard would hold me down. I'm so used to touch typing and auto correct on my z30 now. I'm spoiled.

Hope you can share your user experience here.

Managed to spend a good 20 mins on the demo unit at Blue Cube, Gardens MV.

The overall level of satisfaction is gooding, from the physical presence to the OS. It got better after I tried on the typing and keyboard.

All I want to say is you will fall in love straight, the moment you have this beast in your palm.

It's a must have, fellas.

Wow that's really unexpected. May I know whether the box is still sealed at that price? Haven't heard news from BlackBerry slashing the price down though. The price slash keep me wonder hmm.gif If that's solid I might as well purchasing it outright from Christopher tongue.gif

Haha that's what most people have said after trying it out on their hands. rclxms.gif May I ask how is the typing speed using the Passport physical keyboard compared to touch typing? I'm so getting spoiled with Z30 virtual keyboard auto correction which works 90% of the time without me having to type accurately. I'm not so used to the prediction feature since I found myself having to stop down just to glance and flick the right word to use, which is better if I just peck it out rapidly and rely on the autocorrect instead. My initial guess is I would suffer from typing speed since I had to press the key down compared to just 'peck' out the word tongue.gif

I might be wrong, but when I tried the keyboard, it does not "auto correct". So the flick feature is a must to increase typing productivity..

Just back from bluecube tun jugah, they are out of stocked. Asked the guy to find out if likewise at the other stores, he said whole of sarawak out of stock.. shell shocked i asked him to call either spring or merdeka to confirm he said sorry no can do...

Long story short, off i went to spring and indeed they are out of stock too. But this time the guy was kind enough to hep me call up merdeka plaza... 1 unit left! Off i went to merdeka to complete my mnp.. fingers crossed gonna collect it tomorrow.
Guys, for those of you in kuching still holding back on your purchase, guess you'll need to search around the celcom retailer now since bluecube is out of stock. Best of luck!

P.s. merdeka is the only store that has a real demo passport. Spring and tun jugah only have dummies.

Just ordered the black hardshell case from ebay too. I don't really expect to find any local phone accessories shop in kuching selling any BB stuff... maybe those for LG vu might be usable, even though they might be hard to find too i guess.

Managed to get one unit at Aeon Big Seberang Jaya.
The shop still has few units for sale.

Go to the one with HTC signboard.

You can get this from Tesco Extra Seberang Jaya or Sunway Carnival. Under same company.

Just have a hand on for the blackberry passport. Seriously it looks gorgeous and feel very premium. Learning curve required for the keyboard (currently using 9900). Can't type as fast and accurate as i do on my 9900 and note 2.

But i do like the extra bit of screen size. It looks wider in actual then you see those on youtube.

Everything works fast and no complainoon speed. Even though it weights close to 200g but you can't really feel the difference.

Nice work, Blackberry!

ya i notice the surprise in the weight balance on the phone, it feels amazing on the hand for such a big and somewhat heavy phone

as the bb passport that i received just now is a us set, i cannot use the charger, so i have been charging it using the ipad charger (have been using it to charge my q10 as well). but then it seems that the charging process is kinda slow.

usually how long it takes to fully charge the passport?

my friend has been complaining the mic which is not clear and the phone feels too wide and he also has secondary iphone 5 and note 3....

makes me doubt whether it will be hard for daily use and to keep in my pants pocket.. mainyl jeans for daily storage.

edit:

bought one unit due to itchy hands and fingers.. now back pocket lighter and front pocket heavier...

its not too wide and feels good holding it and playing with it.

btw: waze is succesfully installed through amozon app preinstalled with it .. and works flawlessly abeit some minor small hangs and load slow...

now ebay seller please sent my case and screen protector out asap.. sigh.. another 2 weeks of waiting period..

even if u r able to get buy the phone from amazon, u need to go through sirim n customs - super leceh one.
sirim alone u need to pay rm 100. sigh.

let's say if u r getting the black passport from amazon (usd 599), the cost of the phone + shipping (dhl) will cost RM 2030, then plus the sirim fees, total will be rm 2130.

You're not alone. I am in the same dilemma too.

I think by the time BB Classic launched in Malaysia, BBRY will release teaser for Z50, then you will be caught waiting again. That's the reason I am still using my 9780 now. blush.gif
