VIDEO: Sneak Peek at Moto 360 in Action

Hello from Google I/O in San Francisco! We are here supporting the launch of Android Wear, Google’s new platform for wearables, and showing off Moto 360 in action.

Moto 360 sets itself apart with a design that reimagines time for the modern era - a distinctive round display, carefully chosen materials, and fine craftsmanship all while keeping you on track and up to date without taking you out of the moment.

Moto 360 also responds to your voice. Just say “Ok Google” to ask questions like “What time is the US versus Germany soccer game today?” or “Is it raining?” You can also use your voice to schedule an appointment, send a text, set an alarm or take a note.

Here is an early look at our new watch. Tell us what you think.

user posted image

After 1300 submissions, the people have spoken!

Putting you in the design seat, the Moto 360 Design Face-Off competition invited consumers, designers and developers alike to dream up their own unique face for our new watch, Moto 360.

Ten finalists were selected by an experienced judging panel, who combed through every single entry to find the best-of-the-best, taking design aesthetic, originality and feasibility into consideration. Our panel was impressed by how beautiful, intricate and original all 1300 designs were.

Congratulations to our top 10 finalists: Tyler Allicock, Jose Azua, Layton Diament, Pawel Hanusowski, Dave McCarthy, Aramis Negron, David Pascual, Will Rodriguez, Paul Stringer, and Jason Wang.

From the top 10, we put the fate of the design in your hands, and as determined by the most +1’s, we are excited to announce David Pascual as the winner of the Moto 360 Design Face-Off!

He wins one of the very first Moto 360s and the chance for his design to be featured on the watch.

Well done, David, and thank you to each one of the participants - you inspired us with your creativity, insights and zeal.

Moto 360: It’s Time.

user posted image

It’s time for a watch that looks and feels great and gives you the information you need, when you need it.

It’s time for Moto 360, a truly modern timepiece, designed by Motorola, powered by Android Wear.

The wristwatch has been through several evolutions since it first became a popular fashion accessory more than a 100 years ago. From mechanical to electronic movements, analog to digital faces, the wristwatch has been reinvented several times over, but the basic design has endured for a century because of its elegance and usefulness ‘at a glance.’ Our vision for Moto 360 was to celebrate that history as we reimagined the wristwatch for the future.

Moto 360 keeps you on time and up to date without taking you out of the moment or distracting you, telling you what you need to know before you know you need it through subtle alerts and notifications. With just a twist of the wrist you can see who’s emailing or calling, what time your next meeting is or a friend’s latest social post.

Moto 360 also responds to your voice. Just say “Ok Google” to ask questions like who won the Stanford vs. New Mexico game or what time your flight leaves, or to get stuff done like scheduling an appointment, sending a text, setting an alarm or taking a note.

Most importantly, Moto 360’s iconic design, featuring a round face and premium materials, feels comfortable and familiar on your wrist. It’s everything you need, with a look that you want.

Moto 360 will be available in a variety of styles globally in Summer 2014, starting in the US. To learn more about Moto 360 and stay up to date on product news, click here.

Moto 360: Why a Watch?

It’s practical. It’s stylish. It’s as old as time.

From sundials to wrist watches, time was meant to be told round. And that’s what inspired us when it came to creating Moto 360, a classic timepiece powered by Android Wear coming later this summer.

Hear more about the inspiration behind Moto 360 from Lior Ron, product lead for the watch.

Moto 360 Official at $249, Available Today

user posted image

If you want the Moto 360 – have been waiting impatiently for Motorola’s round smartwatch – today is your day. The circular Android wearable is official and available at 12PM Eastern, 9AM Pacific (Yes, as in today, September 5.) from a variety of retailers. Motorola’s store, Google Play, BestBuy.com and select Best Buy stores will all sell the Moto 360 at $249.

The “classically-designed, modern timepiece” comes in either black with a black leather band or in silver with a special grey-suede leather band. Metal and other bands will be available later this Fall - the metal bands will cost $79.99 on their own. If you wait and buy the Moto 360 with a metal band, the device will run you $299 as a package. Additional leather bands will retail for $29.99.

The device doesn’t have all that many surprises, thanks to the Best Buy leak we saw a couple of weeks back and our previous hands-on from Google I/O. The device sports a 1.56″ round LCD display with Gorilla Glass 3, TI OMAP 3 processor, 4GB storage, 512MB RAM, wireless charging, and a dust and water resistance rating of IP67.

The battery, is 320mAh and will last about a day, according to Motorola. If you were hoping for some extra special battery magic, it’s not happening. Thankfully, the device wirelessly charges through an included charging stand, but yeah, same deal as the other Android Wear watches in terms of battery.

Moto 360 Unboxing and Hands-on Tour

user posted image

Can you believe it? The Moto 360 is now available for sale (or will be later today) through Motorola’s site, Google Play, and Best Buy for $249.

It feels like we have been waiting forever for this to arrive (we sort of have been), but now that one is officially in house, it’s time to put it to work. We have the all-black version on-hand, so we gave it a quick unboxing and then overview/software tour. We wanted to show you how Android Wear looks and works on a circular device, what you get in the box (spoiler: a wireless charger!), and some of the special features for the 360, like its heart rate monitoring.

Yeah, it'll take abt 2 weeks, depending on how fast Motorola ships it to my friend. Moto X used to take 7 days to be shipped to a US address alone, not counting shipping to MY

Tip: Setup a Moto 360 as a Bluetooth Trusted Device on Your Moto X

user posted image

If you end up buying a Moto 360 (unboxing and tour) today, and also plan on wearing it daily, you may want to consider setting it up as a Trusted Device with your phone. With a Trusted Device, your phone can have a PIN or password attached to its lock screen, but rarely ask you to provide it since it knows you have a “trusted device” near.

Basically, with a Trusted Device (could be your car or another smartwatch), you are telling your phone that if this specific device is connected to Bluetooth and near, I shouldn’t need to enter my PIN or password every time I access my phone. But, should I leave my phone behind at say a bar or the gym, it would be nice to have it protected should someone pick it up and try to access its contents. Make sense?

*Note – Motorola has built-in Trusted Devices as a Bluetooth feature, so devices like the original Moto X or last year’s DROIDs can take advantage. Other device manufacturers likely haven’t jumped on board, so depending on your phone, this may not be an option. You will know by step 3 if you can set this up.

Instructions

1. Make sure that your Moto 360 is paired with your phone.
2. Open Settings>Security.
3. Tap on the option for “Trusted Devices.”
4. Enter your PIN or pattern.
5. Turn on Trusted Devices with the top right slider.
6. You should now see your Moto 360 listed as a paired device.
7. Check the box next to it to make it a trusted device.
8. Your phone will now remain unlocked as long as your Moto 360 is near and paired.

Difference Between the Moto 360 Black and Silver Models

user posted image

The Moto 360 is sort of available right now through Motorola’s site, Best Buy and Google Play. Buying one may be tough, though, as the inventory seems to be pretty limited for this first round (or none of these retailers have their sh*t together yet).

As you decide whether or not you want to buy one, we want to clear up some confusion that readers have pinged us with. We are talking colors of each watch. “Which one is black and which one is silver?” you keep asking.

As you can see in the image above of both, the black version comes with a black leather strap. It’s basically the black/black model. If you want the light silver look, you need to get the version with the grey leather strap. This is the silver/grey model.

That help?

Tried to buy direct from Motorola. Had my credit card billed but order did not go thru.

Apparently, they further verify your billing address.. Any non US billing address on the card will  be rejected.  A quick chat with customer service they will lift the charge

Anyway, I've just paid and registered for BuyForMe service with comgateway. They charge a 10% service fee.  Let's see if they can get it for me and then ship back to KL

Damn, still waiting for my current phone to have 4.3 or above...

Will definitely get this when that happens...

People ask why spend so much just to get notification on your wrist, well why not ask why others spend so much more on branded swiss watch just to tell the time?

It doesn't just show notifications. I wouldn't buy too if it does so only
