Actually it depends on how you install it, those who had issues installed the steel band wrongly, ended up putting stress on the back plate. I see comments from people using the steel band for weeks and still no problem, just like stringfellow.

      When my unit arrived, charge it over 80%, update firmware, and enable Ambient Mode ! ! !
My 2 cents, black color pebble steel band can be quite prompt to scratch as it use PVD coating. I used to owned one black pebble steel, and I'm so terrify to use it.

Initially silver + gray band, then order got cancelled, had to choose between black ( can be place order ) or silver ( back order or out of stock etc ), didnt want to wait I go ahead change order to black.

Can't wait anymore eh?

i prefer to apply more oleophobic coating. a watch however will still scratch no matter how you wear it.
just my opinion though but soon, idea will change in the future.

Basically they install in such a way to fit in the first link perfectly slotted inside the watch and it doesn't move at all due to the squarish shape, thus putting zero stress on the backplate, but quite expensive on Amazon... USD73.
