LED's have become more and more popular due to the following facts:

The Pros:

1) They last longer
2) They are brighter (per watt)
3) They have no warm up. Instant On and Off.
4) They are power saving
5) they are very cost effective
6) New product, new colours, new technology, we love new don't we


The Cons:

1) They may cost a little bit more then conventional lighting or products
2) Heat and temperature is the main killer of LED's. Think computer processors. The hotter they run, the faster the chip itself dies
3) Resistor Quality and soldering quality.
4) Needs to be assembled in a controlled environment, just like processors, else soldering will be the failing point in any LED product.
5) Quite hard to differentiate between Lower Binned (Grade) LED and a Premium for the untrained eye. Usually resistors or LED drivers fail before the chip itself fails.


However, as our Marketing Team and Engineering Team surveyed Malaysia and Regional Markets, the market is flooded and majority of it is of lower grade LED's , they are not necessarily bad or unusable but lets face the fact, Cheap price = Cheap material, well, what did you expect?



But as our teams has indicated in our reports, many cheap LED's are being sold at premium prices. LED's are binned just like a processor die fabrication, a single model of LED (example: Cree, Bridgelux, Epistar) can have up to 4 different grades. The question is, which one are you getting? For us, we use the top tier binned chips for quality and reliability.
