Onda V989: Allwinner A80T yields over 48,000 pts. in AnTuTu Benchmark
With the AP market being populated by brands such as Qualcomm, Intel, Nvidia and MediaTek, breaking the ice and making an impact in the mobile world as a chipset manufacturer isn’t the easiest task. Nevertheless, Allwinner took us by surprise recently, when the Chinese tablet dubbed “Onda V989” has been spotted in Antutu benchmark, boasting an 8-core Allwinner UltraOcta A80T processor that seems to overpower even the beefiest chipsets available.
Despite its not-so inspired moniker, the Allwinner UltraOcta A80T SoC appears to be a beast, as the chipset has recently managed to score 48,102 points in AnTuTu, making it the most powerful mobile processor to be added in AnTuTu’s database lately. By the looks of it, this SoC can even outperform the Nvidia Tegra K1 chip, the Snapdragon 805, as well as the Exynos 5433 octa-core processor that has been recently spotted under the Samsung Galaxy Note 4′s hood.
The SoC packs an octa-core CPU built on big.LITTLE architecture boasting a Cortex-A15 quad-core unit complemented by four Cortex-A7 cores. While the clock speeds are currently unknown, we can safely assume that the graphics chip has also contributed greatly to this high score, as the Allwinner A80T takes advantage of a new 64-core Power VR Imagination G6230 GPU.
Aside from what seems to be an extremely powerful processor, the Onda V989 comes with a 9.7-inch IPS display, making it yet another iPad clone that supports a resolution of 2048 x 1536. Under its hood, the Onda V989 packs 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage expandable via microSD, and features a very generous 10,000 mAh battery which is being covered by an aluminum back cover. According to the official product page, the battery should provide up to 8-10 hours of “work time”. 10 hours of battery life sounds pretty standard, but given the size of the unit, we’re hoping that this new processor is not going to be just an overpowered energy hog.
The Onda V989 runs on Android 4.3 and features a 5 MP main camera with autofocus, as well as a 2 MP front-facing sensor. The package weighs 548 grams and the device is only 7.9 mm thin.
The Onda V989 comes equipped with the latest generation Allwinner processor: the A80T. This chipset shares the same big.LITTLE architecture as that found in Samsung Exynos range, in that it has four A7 cores and four A15 cores. It runs either block as required: the former to save battery life, and the latter when greater performance is needed.
The tablet has justbeen recorded in AnTuTu clocking 48,102 points, which is almost a third more than the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and almost twice as much as the HTC One. The chipset is aided by a PowerVR Series6 GPU-- the 64-core Power VR G6230-- which means you should expect some pretty great performance from the tablet when it's finally released.

Its worth mentioning that the Allwinner A80T also provides support for 4K video decoding/encoding. Although the screen resolution is far from 4K, what it does mean is that it is a somewhat future-proofed chipset that won't reduce the tablet to a glorified chopping board as higher resolution media become more typical.
