Tips to Survive Major Steam Sales

Rule #1:
From now until the LAST DAY of the sale, if a game is on sale as a daily deal or flash deal, you can buy it. If it is only "on sale" through July 23, pass. Do not buy. Save your money (you may need it).

Rule #2:
Check each day for the daily deals, and monitor flash deals. As games come up that you want, you can get them. Just continue to exercise self control for games that are not a daily/flash deal.

Rule #3:
You can purchase the large packs, such as the THQ pack or Square-Enix/Eidos pack at any time if you wish. It is extremely unlikely that those bundles will be discounted any further, even though individual games in those packs may become daily deals. If you want a bundle, go for it. Lots of games, excellent price.

Rule #4:
On the LAST DAY of the sale, Steam traditionally makes its daily deals an encore of the most popular daily deals from the previous days. Go nuts. Buy everything you wanted. New games are almost never on the daily deals during the last day. At this point, it is safe to buy anything else you've been waiting on.

Rule #5:
If you miss a game from a daily deal, STILL DO NOT BUY IT until the last day. As I said, the final day often recaps previous days' daily deals, so there is still a chance the game you missed could come around as a daily deal again. Don't rush it. If it doesn't, you can still buy it at the standard sale price on the last day, and just be sad you missed the daily deal. Just remember that if you missed it on one day, it's not necessarily too late. Save money by keeping a cool head.

age of mythology worth $18 for old games?
*
If you played it before and you missed the game, then it is worth buying.

I bought it at $16. No regrets. I did enjoy it for what it offered. Runs well with no issues, except the AI is pretty dumb.

Does anyone know of any good games on Steam that are like AoE / Civ V that runs on Linux?
*
There are very little strategy games that runs on Linux natively.

I think Civ V and XCOM have been upgraded to run on Linux natively recently.

Also, Civ Beyond Earth is Linux playable on day 1.

There is also an Anno browser game if you are interested.

The Anno browser game is garbage. Avoid it.

It is literally farmville with anno skin.

Haha, no worries. Most people tend to ignore 'Linux' in a gaming thread.  tongue.gif
Civ V supports SteamOS. It also runs on my Ubuntu but crashes more often than not.

Ubuntu does have a native strategy game called 0 A.D. The gameplay is quite similar to AoE. It's free and downloadable from the repository.

Then, I dont know why you are adamant in sticking with Linux then.

It isnt ready yet for mass consumer usage. It isnt that hard to double boot windows or even make a Windows VM.

Damn Japanese developers. I hate all these absurd region locks as this sort of attitude will encourage piracy.

Square Enix region lock FF3, also latest MMO Nasgoth.

Thats why I really hate Japanese developers these days. Still the same archaic mentality that they want to region lock stuff while abusing free to play like no tomorrow.

BL2 pros, I got vanilla and nothing else for BL2 (except those pre-order stuff prev), should I get GOTY or the specific DLCs only or both?
*
The Season Pass is good, especially the Tiny Tina expansion, it is probably the funiest DLC i ever played.

I think Gaige Mechromancer and also Pscyho Pack is also not bad. Gaige is quite fun but I think Psycho standout the most. You play as an insane axe wielding maniac which is extremely entertaining.

The rest can ignore, i think due to the terrible end game of BL2.

No Headhunter DLC in BL2 GOTY.

You only get a small map with a raid boss that can be finished in less than 1 hour, not exactly worth the money unless you want to beat them again and again.

Gotten Gaige as part of the preorder goodies, based on what you mentioned, I need namely Season Pass + Psycho (which both in GOTY) =D Adding GOTY to cart now, sapu tonight unless anyone has anything to add  biggrin.gif

I think even Tiny Tina and Psycho pack is enough.

Sir Hammerlock DLC is pretty bad even though there are some funny moments.
Pirates DLC is so so, a lot of reskinned enemies but overall it is not a bad quest
Torque DLC writing is very funny but the gameplay kinda sucked with badly designed levels, other than pub fight and also recycled enemies.

The only good one is Tiny Tina as it is really funny, pokes fun of fantasy games in general and the enemies are almost all brand new. Its the only DLC that is done in-house by Gearbox. The rest are outsourced like what Gearbox likes to do.

Was considering only those 2 at first but it is already 6.58 (3.29 + 3.29) compared to GOTY at 9.99 (another 3.30 to go)  biggrin.gif

*Rei7 tabuli ini macham, later dompet menangis.

Yeah, it is up to you. It is not like the other 3 DLCs are terrible but they are no where as good as Tiny Tina.

If you have lack of time, then, those 2 will do. Do a Psycho playthrough then do Tiny Tina.
