I am a foreign national. I have some fascination for Malaysia. So I tried to get a Job in Malaysia. I am offered a lecturer job in UMT. My initial offer letter did not mention any salary. I am hesitant to ask for salary. I found this forum as very useful to know such information.

Information about me:

I completed my Ph. D with three journal papers. I will be writing more papers before I join UMT. I was told that starting salary will be around 5K MYR, but usually UMT offers more salary for people coming from western countries and who have publications. Please let me know exactly how the salary is calculated, taxes and living expenses.

Many thanks in advance!

Salary usually will be based on nationality and your qualification. May I know your nationality before I continue?

Hey I'm a student from there!
But I don't know about the salary.
I hope you can speak english well, because the last elective course I taken
the lecturer was from Pakistan, and he can speak well despite some accent.

Hi Ravi,

Why you think I deserve 14K, but only end up getting 4K. Any particular reason??

No, that is not true at all.. you are offered a job as lecturer to teach fellow Malaysian, so of course you are valuable to the institution. If I were you, just email UMT and enquire for the salary. You are entitle for that.

Thanks for the info mate! I was expecting a reply from people in this forum who might be working as a lecturer at UMT or other public university. But you all guys really turned up to answer my question. Thanks a lot!
