I just realized that my left shoulder seems to be shorter than my right one. is this normal or a deformity or something?
and more importantly, is there a way to fix it?

No part of our body is created equal because there is no need for that. Ask a physician for further advice, unless you're a monster, then, you have no deformity whatsoever.

Shorter? As in the bone length shorter, which would be abnormal, or just visually shorter which would probably be due to muscle imbalance for both sides. Quite normal in the latter case.

I cant tell if its bone or muscle tho...on first glance its not apparent, but it is very apparent when I do exercises like squats, the bar dosent get supported evenly. Its also apparent when I carry my bag, the strap is almost falling off my left (shorter) shoulder but is correctly positioned on my right.
Also the left side of my upper back, near the spine hurts constantly. Been putting up with it for around 2 years or so. the diffrence is quite huge, you could actually see me slanting all the way to my right if I relax my posture. Pushups and decline presses hurt my left shoulder more tho... |

QUOTE(Joey-kun @ Aug 16 2006, 12:16 PM) I cant tell if its bone or muscle tho...on first glance its not apparent, but it is very apparent when I do exercises like squats, the bar dosent get supported evenly. Its also apparent when I carry my bag, the strap is almost falling off my left (shorter) shoulder but is correctly positioned on my right. Sounds like muscle and accumulated posture imbalance to me. A chiropractor may be able to help you. Some traditional massages too. Be careful though, if you work out with this kind of problem you may aggravate it even more. Conversely, the right type of exercise might help with the symptoms. I'm not qualified to help you on this area, so you might want to seek out a professional. Also the left side of my upper back, near the spine hurts constantly. Been putting up with it for around 2 years or so. the diffrence is quite huge, you could actually see me slanting all the way to my right if I relax my posture.
