I am trying to build a minecraft server at home with 5mpbs unifi.

It's actually built for my kids to play and also for me to play around with running minecraft server.

So I am not expecting a lot of players. Probably will limit it to 10 players.

Anyone can advice if this is okay? How much memory is needed for 10 players? 4GB dedicated to the minecraft server enough?

What mods to use bukkit or forge? From what I read seems like bukkit is more popular and easier. Most people seems to be using bukkit.

What are the things that can be done in a minecraft server that cannot be done with single player?

I don't play minecraft so I don't much about it or running a server. Appreciate all advice from veteran players.

Thanks.

i already have a server. It will be running on c2d processor.

My question is more like is unifi good enough to host for less than 10 users?

Since I do not really play minecraft, what does multiplayer really have to offer?

It is depend on what mod pack you playing. If you playing Vanilla minecraft without mod, 4gb Ram is more than sufficient for 10 users. If you playing others mod like FTB Ultimate pack or CrackPack, you might need to modify server startup script to be run in multi threading mode, as once you have many automation and resource extensive production it may cause hostile mob not spawning and will load up all your allocate memory to the server.

As for my previous game play on FTB Ultimate, 2 players can load up the whole memory allocation to my minecraft server.

I'm currently running Crackpack server, pm me know if you interested to join. We are playing PVP and we are looking for more players.
