simple method to check whether we r fat or lean (adapted from http://www.accumeasurefitness.com/descript.html) The site you will use for skinfold measurement is the suprailliac (approximately one inch above the right hipbone). check the thickness of ur skin (at position as shown in the figure) Repeat three times and use the average as your measurement. Refer to the body fat interpretation chart to determine your body fat percentage and what it means. i dun have the caliper, so i just estimated with fingers only hehe, i have about 12.7% body fat, which is considered ideal

haha.. same here. Women need to be really low on BF then only can consider lean if compare to men's BF. It is not easy to become women.

eh... i think girls can have higher BF to be considered lean. it is natural that girls store more fat in their bodies. btw, skinfold measurement for lean/ideal/average/overfat is basically the same for male and female.

actually, for those who want to lose weight through exercise, setting ur goal in term of body fat percent is much much better. this is because when u do exercise, u may build up some muscle mass. however the muscle is much heavier than fat. as a result, u may gain weight although u r losing fat. if u primary goal is to lose weight, this may be discouraging and demotivating.
on contrary, if u set the goal in BF reduction, u will be sure that u come nearer to ur goal...

QUOTE(iDk @ Aug 13 2006, 11:21 PM) are you sure the muscle is heavier than fat? or it is the other way round? definitely sure... because my body size shrank, after weight training although my weight is still the same (assume that i lost fat and gained muscle ) jut kidding... QUOTE Muscle weighs more than fat! Muscle is 70% water and, as a result, is a relatively heavy tissue-much heavier than fat. On the flip side, fat takes up much more space than muscle, actually three times as much.

definitely sure that muscle is heavier than fat muscle takes 4x less space than fat.
so a muscular 200 lbs guy, same height, would actually look, smaller than a 200lbs fat guy.

The lean flesh of the leg is tough. The yellow fatty bits are mushy and soft and squishy. The weightiness of muscle is in the density of muscle tissue.
