Both more or less the same, same chipset. I am quiet sure the Minix X8 is price higher.

Yes, it has hardware decoding. XBMC is preloaded. And yes hardware decoding does makes a difference. There's 2 chipset in case you are not aware, (similar to the MINIX X8 and X8s), one is without hardware decoding and one is with hardware decoding.

S89H comes with hardware decoding (S89 is only software decoding). Difference is you can use almost any app to passthrough DTS/DD to your receiver. With software decoding, only XBMC can passthrough currently. And it's always better to have hardware decoding because it saves your cpu processing power for other task instead of allocating resources to do the decoding from CPU.
