Wanted to try on breadboard by soldering atmega to perf board. But with my skill, cheap equipment and size of atmega, impossible.  sad.gif

There's a reason why people use teensy in prototypes...

QUOTE(yukihatsu @ Jun 24 2014, 11:54 PM)
Wah, poison poison. Any notable change in the typing sound? My current switch (and key) sounds pretty darn awesome IMO. Deep and low tone instead of high pitched that you hear on blues.

It'd be great if it actually sounds like this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8aQS4bRv6w
*
Tone depends on keycaps.

Currently using mix and match DSA profile (left hand) and mostly DCS double-shot ABS (because my right hand haven't fully memorized the layout yet)

Click is closer to a thud than actual click, mainly due to bigger bump. I highly suggest that you try typing on ergo clears with a pair of headphones and let the sound translate through your fingers instead.

Just get an atmega breakout board. One of those TQFP to DIP converters. You can even practice your soldering skills on them. The Key is get tons of flux

Taobao Link

For Perf board, i absolutely despise that thing. They are horrible. Get a good quality breadboard and you should be fine.

Teensy is fine for prototyping, but man....it is pricey.
Can buy a lot of Atmega already
Or you know, just get the Arduino clones from Taobao, and flash the AVR bootloader on it and you should be good to go for prototyping.
*
I still very reluctant to solder such intricate stuff. Even though my skills improved a lot compared to before I started doing keyboards, I am still scared.

Does the tracking works after the package left US?
*
Partially. Sometimes you get the tracking status that it arrived in the local processing center. That means you'll get the item in 3 days.

KL area would be me or 016. Obviously 016 would be easier since some parts I will source from him also.

Others... GLHF.

QUOTE(solou123 @ Jun 26 2014, 02:20 AM)
hi all,

just would like to get some suggestions for my 1st mechanical keyboard.

budget: RM 300-400

main concern: gaming (dota 2), easy to clean (dust), build material, for media purpose not really into it

switch type: brown or red (actuation 45 g), black mayb...going to test it out

prefer full size keyboard instead of tkl

SteelSeries 6Gv2 , ducky, filco nice?
*
Buy a cheapo one first. Locally, that means, Ducky Zero Shine (sub-300) or Rosewill. Personally, I'd vouch for ducky because I used it with no problem last time.

Build-wise, the Ducky is quite solid (a small step below Filco) unless you start looking for LEDs, then I'd say that nothing really beats the Ducky Shine 3, or the Shine 4 when it does come out in terms of bling and build quality.

I you're playing Doto, I suggest that you go for Blues insted, and only use Browns if your fingers are softer than a pvssy. cat's paws. You know what I mean. Personally, I use 55g Ergo Clears for Dota.

If you're using desktop rubber dome previously, then MX Blue's actuation force isn't that big of a difference. If you have been using laptops more, then it might take a while.

All MKBs are relatively easy to clean (use polident to bath the keycaps, then just vacuum/brush the housing).

If you're in the Subang area, I can suggest a few shops if you're looking for new keyboards.

p/s: the rune bindings changed, so you might wanna take a look into changing your macros.

You think easy?

On the other hand, I'll never let anyone do it for me because I like doing it.

I don't think it's easy at all. I would assemble on my own though. gain exp at the same time save money for moar stuff brows.gif

anyways what rune binding you mention was changed? the coordinates?
*
IMO, RM140 is a decent price to charge for all that. It'll take 2-3 hours for an experienced electrician to solder that many switches and test them all out.

The commands for camera look has changed somewhat. I can't remember the exact commands anymore, gotta go home see my autoexec file.

Stickers and lubing about 6 contact points, I think. Nothing much else you can do. A few dozen test presses per switch also if I got curious.

are u freaking kidding me?! backlit topre capacitive for below 500? SOS

Calm your tits. It's capacitive. There are a lot of capacitive switches around, and unless I see the switches itself I won't get over excited.

Seems pretty easy to do. The only thing I'm worried about is how long the coil will last.
*
It'll last you for years. Heatgun or hair dryer also can use.

Not cheap. Solder stuff need rm140 tongue.gif

Tambah lubing dunno how much d.

My super experienced soldering technician/guru don't even make that much per hour.
*
Hahaha. I misread. It's USD 140, so should sound about right.
QUOTE(ntw @ Jun 27 2014, 07:29 AM)
can't understand how they mounted the LEDs. the cup rubber should have block all access to the pcb. unless the mounted it further away from the switch? hmm.gif
*
That's why I suspect that it's not really Topre. So much LED.

QUOTE(yukihatsu @ Jun 27 2014, 07:52 AM)
I don't get the hype with topre keyboards. I know they're certainly more expensive but does that translate into better quality/typing experience? #sorryinewbie #enlightenmeplease
Okay, okay. Later when Justin's cable is here I'll give it a try.

Edit:
Brothers and sisters, what case is this? I want. tongue.gif

Dude... Topre is the endgame tactile switch. Trust me. Going from MX Browns to Topre is like... dunno how to explain.

Currently forcing myself to use my Ergodox to train my muscle memory, otherwise I'd go back to the Topre.

i mean the bling bling is tempting haha.

end game still gonna be hhkb lite 2 :Kappa:

real man's keyboard, buckling springs? D:
*
HHKB lite is membrane bro... Get the pro.

Real man's keyboard is Topre/Buckling Spring. Topre is like typing on REAL cloud of bewbs. So soft and yet so bouncy and responsive.

QUOTE(quovadis123 @ Jun 27 2014, 01:07 PM)
HHKB lite 2 is a membrane keyboard.
So, your end game is no more mechanical but u back to membrane keyboard.
Ok.
Brown = no hnnnngghh
Topre = Hhhhnnnnggggggghhhhhh
*
Agree. Browns is like my bare minimum now until lightsaver arrives.

QUOTE(zennasyndroxx @ Jun 27 2014, 01:13 PM)
I wasn't serious about it lol. the Kappa at the end means a sarcastic remark to my statement. i think dadude will know about this

anyways, end game for sure topre. still yet to decide whether which one to aim. but end game for sure not anywhere this year.

Any comments on the HHKB2 layout? Is it better as what most of the people said? How long it took you to get used to the layout?
*
Hehehe... Up to you bro... When you want it, lemme know.

QUOTE(yukihatsu @ Jun 27 2014, 01:29 PM)
Hahaha. Can't justify the price until I've tried one myself. Anyone in Penang ada HHKB for me to try? brows.gif
Stick to 26AWG bro. Check your PM also. doh.gif
LOL. Must try typing on one myself to tell if hhhnggggghhh or no hhhnnnghhhhh. Come, let me audition.

Can't help you two. Besides, Topre needs 2 weeks to go from "Errr...." to "Hnngggghh OMGWTFBBQ whyamisostupidtonothavetriedthisi'llneverneedanotherkeyboard"

you wanna get together? brows.gif

But here comes the problem; which one to get? realforce? leopold? hhkb?

but definitely might not be this year. this year's things to get roadmap:

TKL [Done, need spray some more]
60% [75%]
WC my rig
*
Leopold<Typeheaven<Realforce~HHKB

I put realforce and HHKB together because I hate 60% boards and I like my winkeys (multitaskers FTW!). Any questions?

p/s: already have a Realforce.

Novatouch will have even lousier keycaps. Ok maybe just as bad as typeheaven.

Only logical thing to do with a novatouch is to buy it, harvest the stems, and say hello to realforce+MX keycaps. Hnggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

or get novatouch and use PBT sets

don't need to get novatouch just to harvest stems IMO.

wait for qwerkeys on the stems. IINM qwerkeys and matt3o are working on stems but not working on it together
*
I will buy one set if it doesn't cost more than RM 200. That might be the only thing that will re-open my keyboard craze. After that will buy another set of keycaps for my Topre, then I'm quietly and surely fading out.

QUOTE(yukihatsu @ Jun 27 2014, 04:11 PM)
Haha, definitely need to audition first before buying considering that it's not that affordable. Can't buy purely based on review only.

wildwestgoh If you can find Topre users in Kuching let me know. I'll be back in mid Aug for a 2 weeks so maybe can give it a try if you find any.
*
That's true, but who gonna let you audition 2 weeks?
