Other than PFU HHKB (Topre switch), I still have a Filco MJ2 TKL (Cherry switch).

transition to Dvorak: very easy
time taken: 100 - 200 hours typing then fingers memory will remember the position of each keys

It's definitely true like you said.
People will exposed to mechanical keyboard under few reasons:-
1. Looking for gaming keyboard that have clicky sounds
2. Looking for blink2 keyboard that different from others.
3. Looking for keyboard that can reduce fingers fatigue as they type a lot
4. Want to prevent Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) and Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
and many other reasons.
