Another prototype for LYNK. Stands for Low Yat Net Keyboard.

Yes, yes, no more Lyn Peh keyboard. Something that sounds cool and, well, sellable.

Anyone interested with Cherry Stabilizers group buy? plate and pcb mount are available.
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=60789.0
Those stabs are from cherry instead of 3rd party.
The price is also 3usd cheaper than buying from GON for a tkl set.

If you doing a GB for this then I'll join in.

yeah model m for 180rmb saja.
but it is very heavy though...shipping fee is killing.

mx clears are fine, no for vintage blacks they are not.
*
Yeah. Cheaper also got, but not by much. Roughly how much is the shipping back to Malaysia?

Some progress update on LYNK:

I've managed to get AutoCAD working, so the plate and acrylic case design isn't going to be an issue. Still need some help on PCB.

PM me if you have access to PCB prototyping (let's work out the costs) and we'll try to get things started wink.gif

Thanks for the offer dude. Let's get this thing going on.

To the others; would really speed things along if you can tell me what you miss about 60% keyboards. We will be making a 60+ keys MKB layout, and skipping along several keys to make way for fn and pn layers. The end goal is to make a keyboard that people who came from full-sized keyboards feel comfortable using a smaller one with virtually no loss in functionality and speed.

Make it a long keyboard by adding a row of Function keys at the left.

p/s: Machiam dearmo blade tu mia style, sans remove the top function keys and placing them on the left macro keys.

As for cursor keys, can kopi FC660 style, borrow 0.5 unit from right shift (which also make the right shift same length as left shift, easy find replacement).

Something like 14inch laptop keyboard, minus the F-rows. With numpad Fn layers. biggrin.gif

something like this?

kmac mini
*
QUOTE(Human10 @ Jul 21 2014, 08:08 PM)
wow, that's close enough. But I think a row of function keys is enough, others may be kept under FN/PN.

As for the cursor keys. I think may be going the kbt race style, using 1.5x sized keys as cursor keys and replace those doubled right Ctrl/Alt.
*
QUOTE(schokolade @ Jul 21 2014, 08:10 PM)
kmac mini ftw! its an old custom but to me the best looking keyboard...I got money but nobody wants to sell it...plus its verrryyyyy hard to find these days
*
QUOTE(amirinz @ Jul 21 2014, 08:13 PM)
Yup, something like that with only one row of function keys of the left. That would be very nice!
*
Thank you all for the feedback. Previously thought to make something closer to that of a Lightsaver (compressed TKL) but now we have instead we have:

----------LYNK70----------

That's a pretty sweet and powerful layout. thumbup.gif

Short shift and 1x bottom row the only issue with this layout. The rest you can find from standard kits. A lot of retained buttons from the nav cluster because I do use it a lot personally and I guess some people would miss it after a while.

My other weird dream was to make an ergodox that can utilize an ANSI set, but I gave up after seeing how ugly and bulky the mess would end up being.

QUOTE(faridr @ Jul 21 2014, 10:10 PM)
What about combining both page up and page down into single key? Initiate page down by using fn.

And something out of standard, and might requires time to get use to it (took me few days), by swapping backspace and \ , where you can put 2 more 1u key at previous backspace slot.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and anyone know where's the cheapest place to get keycap printed according to my need and size? Only know wasdkeyboard so far.
*
Backspace is a high impact + repetitively pressed key. Making it larger than most other keys was a conscious decision by myself so that users have a slightly larger footprint for depressing the key.

As for fn layer triggering pgup and pgdn, see the next reply.

QUOTE(quovadis123 @ Jul 21 2014, 10:12 PM)
fn (or pn) + up/down = pg up/down
fn (or pn) +left right = home/end
fn (or pn) + backspace = delete
*
The nav cluster was retained because I get 4x1 space on the right of the keyboard when I retained the arrow cluster. While I can cover it with the top plate later, I very much rather use up all the space available to me instead of leaving it empty.

Another design consideration is that I personally find myself using CTRL + the nav cluster buttons a lot to navigate quickly in excel and chrome, so pressing three buttons to activate an oft used shortcut seems overly unnecessary (also a design consideration at this point)

QUOTE(Powet @ Jul 21 2014, 10:16 PM)
thanks for keeping up the F rows drool.gif
*
I use F1, F2 and F5 a lot. Probably won't design a custom without these keys.

QUOTE(faridr @ Jul 21 2014, 10:27 PM)
Page up and page down is my most used key, so prefer to have  it own personal key. Btw what does pn do actually? For programming key?
*
Fn is a toggle key. Pn is a "lock" key, mainly used for numlock activation and pulling up the third layer.

Lai Lai end of next month huhu
Machiem mana mau doto like this? I mean others who use f1 to control hero? I'm personally okay with this since I use number row

Also, why ditch windows key? IMO its one of the most important key to use in a windows or a Mac machine. Without win key windows 7 still can survive but I think in windows 8 its a must to have a winkey. I'll try and do a mockup and see how it goes.
*
F1 just reach a little to the left. I personally use tilde to control hero, so I don't see any problems. If lolfags can use Poker, why can't Dotards?

Currently Meta key on the right can use for winkey. Can swap back, but that might make F6-F10 hard to press. Although this is one change I can agree with.

you got that layout perfect....f6-f10 as secondary function rows since they are not commonly used compared to f1-f5 row.

Almost!

however I prefer the arrow keys to be slightly distanced from the cluster of keys . Maybe not too far like the normal TKL layout but just slightly...0.75 units away perhaps?
*
Spacing the arrow keys would make the right side look weird. I tried to make the Leopold lookalike (Ins-Del), but it leaves out a lot of space wasted that can be used for other keys.

On the other hand, I've had the arrow keys right beside other keys on my ergodox, and I can assure you that although it looks compressed, the arrow keys are usually pressed several times in a row and not "quick-tapped" much, so it isn't usually confused with other keys. Not to mention that there is the gap with the longer mod keys before reaching the nav area, so it is quite comfortable to activate.

This works better, IMO, although we do go back to wasted space.

Please also note that this keyboard is fully programmable, so the keys I proposed here is just that; a proposal. It would be better if you look at the key layouts instead.

hope we'll have good news soon smile.gif

after settling in a layout have to start designing the pcb which is the PITA part. sad.gif
similar features like? textured or contoured?
*
We do rapid prototyping actually... no PCB, just the layout on an acrylic plate, and move straight to usage. If it isn't too tedious to use.... maybe we will go ahead. But, currrently it is the V2 that's more likely to be produced because I'm big on re-using standard sized keycaps.

As for china (zero) vs taiwan (shine)  , does the quality differ much? Or just negligible?
*
Ducky Shine series quality closer to Filco. Zero series a bit on the lower side, but quality still damn good. Just don't expect much from the keycaps. Mine started "shining" after two months of usage. Can't take it and swapped a PBT set. Never went back ever since.

What do u mean by swap? U change the keycap to pbt keycap?  Or change whole kb?

Bought a set of PBT caps. The printing came off in about a month, then I splurged for DS PBTs. Then I switched over to blank DSAs, then I started using Filco already.

Honestly, you don't need bling bling. It will only slow you down.

Install a small table lamp. Your eyes will thank me in the long run. I game up to 3am daily (work starts at 8am!) but I have no problem. In the end, having top tier keycaps made more sense than backlight for me.

Filco hands down. Internally, both are quite similar, but when you type on Filco it feels better than typing on ducky.
