hi guys, i bought a new steelseries kana v2 mouse.

first step of course was to go to their official website and download the LATEST driver for kana v2, but end up the device driver is not installed even after installing the driver.

worst thing is, when i tried to uninstall (and shift delete the folder in the installed directory) and install it again, my device manager keeps having more and more unknown device under Other Devices tab. one time uninstall and reinstall again, 1 more unknown device came out. look at the picture i posted

i tried looking for tech support from official steelseries website and they did highlight about this problem, the link is here and this is exactly my problem
http://faq.steelseries.com/questions/393/W...on+will+exit%22.

of course, i tried all the steps mentioned in the website but still cannot get it to work

another thing, if u realised the screenshot below, there is this driver kana v2 gaming mouse, and all the other unknown device is below it. now when i unplug this mouse, uninstall all the driver and shift delete anything related to it and then restart my pc, this unknown device ALL will still be here in device manager...why ???? cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

sifus around here, please help me. really really need your help to solve this problem, i dont wanna spend my rm200 on nothing notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

can you use the mouse on other machines? have you updated its firmware?

.. and have you found out what exactly are the unknown device? (do a search on the  hardware id's)

i have a kanav2 too, but i never had any issue with it.
*
Haven't really tried the mouse on other device, but I'm very very sure the unknown devices that keeps coming out came from me uninstalling the steam engine and reinstalling again - it will add one more after I do this step, and of course, and the mouse still didn't work.

Anyway, you mentioned about the firmware... You mean the firmware of the mouse or the steel series engine driver ?

Supposingly, if the mouse and driver works on other machine, and I do not want to reformat the current pc, what is the best step to troubleshoot for this? Should I find a way to somehow delete all the unknown device first ?

Someone please help... Thanks sad.gif sad.gif

there are 2 software that you can download from ss.website. one is the driver, another one is the firmware. i'm referring to the firmware.

if the mouse works on other machines, then you might wanna check your usb driver, too. (or maybe connect to other usb ports). this is weird because i have these ss.mice for sometimes (from kinzu v2, kana v2, and rival), i haven't faced any problem with them.

also, a better place to ask for the answers is at https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2900096 a lot of users are gathered there.

thanks bro, i appreciate your reply very very much... but i tried looking around at SS official website and couldnt find a specific page to download firmware? only can find the page to download the driver which is this http://steelseries.com/support/downloads
and of course i tried googling it but it keep redirecting me to this website above too... if you could be kind enough, can you actually lead me to the page to download this kana v2 firmware ?

thanks for the link to lyn steelseries thread.. will spend some time abit reading it on friday...thanks..

edit: my bad, there is actually a firmware update tool but only for sensei and kana...not kana v2. this kana probably not compatible with kana v2? i know its only 3.9mb and i could have tried it myself... but sorry im actually outstation and couldnt try it...

I'm using SS Rival actually, using SS Engine 3, as far as i know when you plug in the mouse if got any latest firmware the SS software will pop up message to ask for upgrade.
Btw regarding you mouse issue do u plug correctly for the USB port? My experience, if plug wrongly the firmware upgrade cannot run.
*
i did tried plugging in into different usb ports, in fact i tried all of them including 2 of my usb3 port, but none of them has different results. is ss engine 3 compatible with kana v2? i dont think so right ? i've tried experimenting, i uninstalling everything and unplug the kana v2, restart my pc and then i just install the ss engine without having my kana v2 plugged. after installing, it came out message saying 'driver not available. please check compatibility', this message will surely popup and i have to close it, and when i try to open the ss engine, no reaction at all... all this is done without the kana v2 plugged in into the computer

suspect its my computer or windows problem ? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

What windows version are u using? Seriously even without that ss software the mouse still can used, just plug & play, the ss software is used to tune the mouse speed/DPI etc.
It seems like your windows got problem, re-installed might solve your problem, otherwise if you have other pc/laptop just try to plug the mouse make sure it has no hardware problem
*
using win7 ultimate 64 bit, read from SS official website that the SS engine i downloaded can support this...
got it...i will try it on my other laptop and if the problem still persist, does that mean that there could be a problem with the mouse itself to begin with ?

also, like llk said, you should make sure your mouse and usb port are working fine. it's not wise to run that firmware update if one or both of them are not working well.

*
im pretty sure all my usb port are working well, after having this error i tried plugging in my usb/harddisk in different combinations of all my usb port..all are working fine and no issue at all

yeah i really think you should check if the mouse is functional first. (with other machines)
*
bro, i tried logging into safe mode, right click and uninstall all the 'unknown devices' from the device manager, unistall and delete all the steelseries engine driver...and then plug and play the kana v2 mouse in safe mode.
it works now, but when i tried to install the steelseries engine again, it is able to install but said unable to detect any steelseries devices... and 1 more unknown devices came out from the device manager. so this time i tried to right click on the unknown device and update driver software -> browse my computer manually then select the steelseries engine directory and here is what happened (refer to the picture below)

so basically now my kana v2 is usable but i am not able to use the steel series engine to tune the mouse

any idea ? shocking.gif shocking.gif

that's weird :/

what if you right click the installer and choose run as administrator?
*
it's the same...tested just now..haha

damn weird...should i just reformat the whole pc ? weird thing is...it says look for 'steelseries um bus enumerator' in system device in device manager, but what i have here is only 'um bus enumerator' (no steelseries word)... has it got something to do with this ? blink.gif

edit: booted in safe mode and installed the ss engine, now my device manager is showing ss enginer enumerator.
but here's another problem sweat.gif sweat.gif doh.gif doh.gif

hm.. can you please check if this mouse is working on other machines first?

i suspect it's the problem with the mouse itself.
*
bro, just tested with my old laptop. working perfectly, SS engine can use to fine tune the mouse configuration, change to other usb port all also working

so that leaves with only 1 possbility: my this computer problem ?
