Dear all gurus, Pls enlighten me on a would-be replacement board for my AMD Barton + AGP card + 2x512 DDR-SDRAM. Consulting u guys as I wanna overclock my aged processor to an edge I failed to clock it with my old Abit NF7II (chipset: nForce2 Ultra 400) - was unstable and hung most of the time. As u all can see in the screen shot, I was underclocking my AMD to a puny suboptimal speed Would edit this post to slot in details when gurus feel necessary. Thanks in advance This post has been edited by skma: Aug 11 2006, 01:59 AM

DFI LANParty B nF2 Ultra
if possible... get a pair of BH-5 or BH-6.... and run very very tight timing
the board can support DDR voltage up to 3.3V without mod, and up to 4V if you do pencil mod...lol!

Thanks e-jump for ur kind reply, Caps=capacitors, I presume? Sorry buddy, not a tech guy in fact. Caps problem in my board? Probably so. How to confirm? Any specialists that u can recommend? Around penang side (northern area). Just wanna ask..usually what'll be the symptom if it's caps problem?

well... i've never heard about dying DFI Infinity NF2 boards despite hardcore overclocking I've personally tortured my old DFI Infinity with 3.7Vdimm through vmod, and processor up to 1.9Vcore Never had any problem at all.... even that time I was only using Enlight 420W. Anyway... got ppl sell infinity board here: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...531&hl=infinity

Found this one: http://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1507So to say, are bad caps a common problem? sorry for my rate reply.. yep, caps = capacitor in recent mobo, bad caps issue is no longer a problem.. but back in the days of socket A mobo, its indeed a major problem. as i seen few of my mates abit dies of bad caps (abit nf7-s,-s2, -m, intel mobo) .. usually to identify dying caps, it looks bulky/fat like wanna explode, or have some liquid/rust around it regarding K7TPro2, its using Via chipset, this it definately wont satisfy you in OC http://www.ocworkbench.com/hardware/micros.../k7tpro2ap2.htmfor dfi mobo, try ur luck here http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=278950 This post has been edited by e-jump: Aug 12 2006, 12:38 PM

Abit NF7 board has high potiential to overclock, it might be your Barton cannot go to high frequency. Try to use higher Vcore and VDimm...also voltage up your NorthBridge

are you sure that barton of yours is supposed to run at 2400mhz? 11.5x200 seems to be an overclocked setting already. is your chip a 2.4Ghz
the highest speed barton that i know of is the 3200+ which runs at 11x200.. most of the bartons have 166mhz bus only.
please correct me if i'm wrong.

have you ever try to overclock your processor on other board? Like MSI, Asus, DFI or Epox. If other boards can achieve higher speed and more stable then it might be your board or Abit problem. If not most probably is not the board's fault. Check the RAM timing, PSU voltage see if it is stable when increase in voltage...etc
