What guidelines will u set for new video game console to develop? Like future video game console. Need some facts& ideas, for my project resources, thx! biggrin.gif

Go buy the book "The Xbox 360 Uncloaked"....i really think the insight story of microsoft xbox to xb360 development will help your project.

new console? hmm... actually my ideal is a subscription based set-top box. (techonology-wise like xbox) maybe partner it with a cheap portable platform (techonology-wise like GB SP). and no (or very low) licensing fees. the casual gamers market still have lots of room to grow.

If you read "The Xbox 360 Uncloaked", microsoft actually thought about doing so by removing the royalty fee but in reality, it will never work because in the console business you already selling the hardware at a loss...you need this royalty fee, otherwise you got no profit at all.

nintendo seldom sell its hardware at a loss (maybe marketing costs alot?) yet it has no problems charging licensing fees to 3rd party developers.

If i listed the ideas, then there's no point for me 2ask right? Anyway, here's some of the idea i think can be use:

1. Thru R&D
2. Safety measurement
3. Console Develepoment

Off the top of my head:
No multiple SKUs
Minimize required/extra upgrades (Remember the PS2 HDD?)
Wireless controllers!

Customizable (Physical unit and OS)
Easy to use SDK
