I agree.

Part of the reason why is that the TH900 is already a very warm headphone to begin with. There are neutral sounding tubes out there, but I think solid-state amps sounds best twith the TH900 too.
*
Exactly, as most tube amps have a relatively higher output impedances than solid state amps, >3 output impedances.

Last I tried the TH900, it is a classic example of a V shape signature headphone with emphasis on bass and treble with recessed mids.

Pairing it with a tube amp, I felt it makes the bass even muddier while with the recessed mids, becomes worst and to my ears, it is unacceptable to me personally.

Funny how previously when high nonimal impedances like Sennheiser or Beyer becomes a problem with getting enough voltage swings. Low impedances itself presents another problem when mismatching output impedances smile.gif

Drooling at HP-A8c.... Wonder whether should whack for it

The HP-A8C is quite a beauty I must say, though you're really just paying for the DAC first than amp second. Not sure if Fostex has resolved it but previously there was a firmware problem with the HP-A8 when playing DSD formats.

It was bad with the Yamamoto amp. Hybrids like the HP V1 was actually not bad, but SS like my MK3-B really pushed it. But as agreed, mids was missing. Haha.

IMHO, preferred W3000ANV compared to TH900. Tried them both at Jaben NU before.

Just my preference. *mids XD

I like mids too but the mids on the 3000's were just too artificially rich. That it's to me, weird mids. Like mids just for the sake of it and not mids done right.
Audeze mids, warm mids done right.
T1 mids, bright crispy mids done right.

What did you use to drive both?

The W3000ANV was way to dry and neutral for me. For this cost you should be getting a stand-out product. Audio-Technica's W3000ANV is a total bore. It does everything 'okay' giving you a balanced dimensional sound, but there is no real excitement to it. hmm.gif

If the TH900 got modded and the mid's improved it would've manhandled the AT cans.

Direct output from Macbook Air headphone jack. I knew I won't get the best result out from it, since they have not yet manage their equipment (1st day). sweat.gif
Will try later on with good DAC/AMP. How do you drive them btw?

Aiks. sweat.gif Yeah man better get a good amp/DAC combo.

I tried them with my own AlgoRhythm/MK3-B combo. Somehow AT woodies never agree with me hahaha. Prolly just my sound preferences.

Fostex TH-900 is like Denon D7k on steroid. 1.5 tesla is blowing away any of the previous denon (IMHO).

Then come the TH-600. More source friendly. Yet still superior to most closed-cans that I've ever heard. The layering is just superb, aided by the beautiful rounded bass to create a sense of air and space.

Now left the newer ortho to try out! Hopefully they managed to perfect it before putting em onto the shelf.

p/s: WHERE'S THE TE-05!? Come to Malaysia, pls...

So how does the TH900 rank with your Audezes?

I opened hp-a3 and hp-a8 before. if hp-a4 is anything likelike a3, you need to unscrew the top and the side.

Not just the 4 screws at the top?

Need to open the sides first before the top? They seem to be JIS type screws.

As long you unscrew top and side regardless which first. That's how I open A3, A4 may be different.

Actually I also interested on A4, if you are free this Sunday we can meet up in KL to see how to open it. I can bring my 31 in 1 screw driver set too.
