google quantum physics.

look for einstein-rosen-podolsky (EPR) effect.

for layman, this whole thing may look like hocus pocus crap. but if u look deeper, the film dwells on the hostility between two great scientists of electricity: tesla vs edison (u can also look this one up. pretty cool rivalry, in which tesla lost). during the rivalry, both seek to out do each other. eventually, due in most part to edison's financial prowess, electricity we know today was grounded in what edison "believed" is true.

the film simply explores on what if tesla was correct? that all we believe about electricity and science in general is not exactly accurate?

so in the film, angier practices old school magic tricks, while danton pushed the boundaries of science that it becomes magical.

I would prefer if they stick to only pure illusion and pure magic tricks, instead of wtfbbq tesla duplicate machine..totally turn off..
But still an entertaining movie..

but that's the best part!

it's supposed to be a teleportation machine. but one of the outcome of EPR effect is it creates a copy at the new site.

in star trek's transporter machine, ur body is disintegrated and reassembled at the new site.

here, it creates a copy at the new site, but the original remains at the old site.

this is why angier said his trick requires absolute courage, because he literally DIES at the end of every trick. only his copy lives on!

I love sc-fi movie, but at first Prestige was giving me the feeling that it will be a pure illusion and magic tricks movie, but suddenly it changes direction, it doesn't feel good.
