I'm now without my desktop...replying an starting a thread with iPad. Later when I return my work desk, I will mark how fast each thread leaped to another thread with time stamp....all these shall be added in my page1.

If you remember somewhere in my V5, I was suggesting some collaboration with xiaomi Malaysia where they can sponsor some giveaway goodies like mi3 (wishful) in this thread for best review....I'm still in the midst of strategizing it. Any form of help from you guys is much appreciated.

Somewhere, somehow...I can feel that we are making our presence felt in xiaomi Malaysia....just we need a direct link and get it connected. Don't be surprised, they do read what we posted here...stay tuned!
*
Your suggestion for xiaomi Malaysia to sponsor will be tough.. We have freebies giveaway in miui forum. Xiaomi china organizing international giveaways for some of the contest...

I'm from Nexus background. But I liked the look and spec of Mi3 which is very comparable (with better camera sensor n battery capacity) than the Nexus 5. So, cyanogenmod or any other rom that looked like stock Android is very important to me.

Miui is special too, but I've already had some experience playing with it sometime last year on a Sony phone.

So I guess paranoid Android, slimkat n the likes are not available for mi3?
*
U mean flashing cm to mi3? Last check no official stable rom yet.. Not sure about now..

is there any differnence between 0.2mm and 0.3mm glass protector ?

last time i use glass m for my htc one. after severe heavy duty usage finally the screen protector scratch. now i unsure what brand to purchase for this mi3
*
Difference of thickness of 0.1mm. It's hardly noticeable. But there are differences between glass instead. In the current market, there are Corning gorilla glass, Asahi glass and also soda lime glass. Glass m is using soda lime glass which is the cheapest among the 3 and of cos with the lowest quality as well. Poor durability and very poor oleophobic coating. But again, the price also the cheapest so cannot complain too much la..

U can read more about type of sp here.

No need destroy la.. When I open, just look at the borders.. If it's colored like green or blue, then it soda lime glass. If it's clear, then it's Corning gorilla glass. Not sure about Asahi glass..

Bro one small suggestion duno if the reason you never mention any brands is due to policy or what, perhaps can mention like nillkin, rock, 3M or others what kind of material their glass sp use. And for corning or AGC as well. Alot of Taobao glass sp claims they r so n so but never have actual pic or fact. I am torn between nillkin h+ and glass m now for my mi3 sp. Would take corning but RM 120 ?  rclxub.gif Max I am forking out for Glass SP is RM 60.  sweat.gif
*
The reason why no brands is mentioned id because there are too many brands in the market especially is oem china brand who are using soda lime glass. If u going for soda lime glass, to me, I will go for the cheapest. Quality should be around the same except for the coating. But tested both coating, I would same both are crap... After using less an a month, the oleophobic coating are gone.. .
Again, as for Corning.. We like it because of the glass n the oleophobic coating. As simple as that. As for the money, the price of mi3 helps a lot..it's cheaper than most flagship phone thus allows one to spend more on going for he best accessories. But for those who buy mi3 because it's cheap and not willing to pay much on protection since it's a cheapo.. What to do.. We dot force them also. We just provides a better option for those who really appreciates their phone.

Confim soda lime glass r same just oleo coating diff ? To complete ur review perhaps can do more test instead of just describing the diff and type of sp. At least to convince more, for my case, as u said get cheapest, but after surveying, I found few brands which interest me,

Nillkin 9H+
Litu 9h 2.5D
Remax
Glass M
Classy ?

I think got few not available for Mi3, but perhaps they might make one soon. I am quite confuse bout Litu as I tried to find Asahi and Litu pop out.  rclxub.gif

Regarding the shipment n stuff, well I really think TS should put up the estimated for Fedex and UPS. From my own experience
Fedex 1st batch order on tuesday arrive on sat. UPS arrive on monday sum tuesday. Bout 1 week or 7 days.
Fedex 2nd batch Order on Wed, arrive on Sun. UPS estimate arriving on monday - tuesday. Also 1 week or 7-8 days.
To self collect can call fedex customer tollfree to arrange, but my case altho edi arrange, they still deliver to me, and got it bout 12.30pm today.

My experience is based on my location, which is nearby Klang Valley, or to be exact, the location I set for delivery is Aeon Bukit Tinggi, Klang. I believe once TS put on 1st page should lessen the anticipation of new user and old users from answering these delivery question. Altho I really don't mind, but I do understand some more important issue needed to discuss rather than just delivery.  doh.gif

Those brand that u mentioned are all china oem brand. Most likely get their supply from same glass manufacturer. Only use different brand. U can too if u can commit 1000pcs per model. We often received quotation from these manufacturers to do our own brand..
As for test, if we do a 1 to 1 comparison test on brands, I'm sure a lot of the sellers here will scold us. However,we did demo for our some of customers here during Cod. To show them the different types of glass, from china, from USA n IMOS. We do not mentioned any brand unless being asked.c
U googled Asahi n LITU pop up.. It's simple, if u use SEO, u can even have ur name pop up when search for Asahi..
A lot of companies claimed they are using Corning gorilla glass or Asahi glass for their sp. But if u ask them the supplier of the glass, high chances they can't give u the answer. Reason? They just claim without proof. For IMOS, we have checked and they are getting their Corning gorilla glass from GTOC Taiwan, the largest glass supplier in Taiwan which is also the partner of Corning Taiwan. U can google it..

We are always open for sellers/users/suppliers to send us their item for review. Our review will be posted to miui official forum since are in the news team. But so far, after those who watch IMOS video, none will wanna try to compare it.

Here's a video by IMOS Taiwan on the comparison on Corning glass vs normal soda lime glass.

of course.. most glass sp in the market now are using soda lime glass.

Only some are using corning gorilla glass. U will see some sellers claim it to be gorilla glass, but once u ask them which company they get it from, they will done missing cos most likely its a fake claim.

imos is using Corning Gorilla glass from GTOC Taiwan, which is the largest glass supplier in Taiwan and a partner of Corning.

The link is for your reading purpose to understand more on types of glass in the market. Should read it or risk being mislead by sellers.

do u expect Corning to be that cheap at RM35 per piece? hehe.. Soda lime glass of course.. most china made OEM sp using soda lime glass my friend.. those who claim using corning, ask them which factory supplied the corning gorilla glass. see if they can answer u..

so far, only certain brands using corning, and imos is the 1st and only with 0.3mm. The rest are 0.4mm to 0.6mm. And the rest are not widely available in Malaysia. You will need to order from USA

I tot Nillkin H+ also 0.3mm?
*
erm.. how should i say it.. did you try to read up the article we posted?

http://en.miui.com/thread-22383-1-1.html

0.3mm is the thickness of the glass, not the type of the glass. Or should i say, USD1 and RM1 is both 1, does it makes them the same value? Or eating a steak in a kopitiam and a 5 star hotel, do you pay for the same price or do u think the quality is the same?

The fact is, most manufacturer wont even bother to use Corning because, corning glass itself cost higher than their selling price of nillkin H+. Otherwise, why do you think even without middle man, mi3 still selling at RM900? and as most of us knows, the glass screen is one of the most expensive apart from the board. And mi3 is using Corning Gorilla Glass.

Hope this explain better. but we would really suggest you to read the article to have the basic understanding of the different type of sp.. and for glass sp too..

Tempered Glass Screen Protector
What is tempered glass?
It's a type of safety glass processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. Tempering puts the outer surfaces into compression and the inner surfaces into tension. Such stresses cause the glass, when broken, to crumble into small granular chunks instead of splintering into jagged shards. The granular chunks are less likely to cause injury.

Corning Gorilla Glass protector for Galaxy S5 by imos Taiwan

A tempered glass screen protector is highly demanded type of screen protector in recent days. Many has chose to use the tempered glass screen protector for a few reasons, mainly
Oleophobic coating to reduce fingerprint marks, stains
better protection against drops and impacts
everyone using it now, so I must use it too
every seller recommend it
and many more creative and innovative sales talk

While I don't denied the protection is better than a normal PET film, I do have some reserves against the other claims. For instance, I did try comparing an OEM tempered glass screen protector oleophobic coating with a PET film oleophobic coated screen protector and finds that the effect is better on the PET film. This shows that not all glass screen protector are better than an oleophobic PET film.
There are few sub types of tempered glass in the market.
Soda lime glass
Gorilla glass
Asahi Glass

Soda lime glass
Most widely available in the market due to many factory around the world is offering OEM for it. You can differentiate a soda lime glass by looking at the side of the glass. You can see green or blue color on it. It's the least expensive type and many resellers are selling it in the market. However, a lot of the company/reseller took advantage of the limited knowledge of consumers by offering misleading information to them. Among those commonly found misleading information includes:
SCRATCH proof
EXPLOSION proof
FINGERPRINTS & STAINS proof
MADE FROM GORILLA GLASS
MADE FROM ASAHI GLASS

The reason I said it's misleading consumers are, there are currently no screen protector which is scratch proof. The next time you are going to buy a screen protector, bring a piece of sandpaper with you. If a seller tells you that it's scratch proof, use the sandpaper and try scratching it and you will know if it's really as it claims. And if it does, do share with me the brand of the sp, I would like to have it for all my devices too. On "explosion" proof? How are they going to proof it? Setup a C4 on the phone? Fingerprints and stains proof? Ok, with most tempered glass sp coated with the oleophobic coating, it helps a lot in reducing the stains but for those with sweaty palm and oily hand, you might still have minimal stains on it.
As for the MADE FROM GORILLA GLASS and ASAHI GLASS claim, with the price that they are selling, it's hard to believe its made of the 2 most reputable glass provider in the world. Ask them of the proof and none will able to provide to you. And from the packing, if it doesn't mentioned anything about Gorilla Glass or Asahi Glass, just take it as a normal soda lime glass.

Gorilla Glass
Probably the best in the industry. With Corning being responsible for more than 33 brands for mobile devices screen, the corning gorilla glass is the world's most trusted protection with bulk of features and better protection. It offers more than twice the durability compare to a soda lime glass. As for their claim on superiority, this is the one that I find most impressive.

With almost all the major brand in mobile devices industry using Corning Gorilla Glass as their preferred screen, I see no other reason why it's not the best in the industry. I might be wrong about their quality, but I doubt the giants such as Apple, Samsung, HTC, LG, Xiaomi and others are wrong.
Now the question is, how do we differentiate between gorilla glass and soda lime glass? As mentioned earlier, on soda lime glass, you can see the green or blue color on the side. For Corning Gorilla Glass, it's clear, transparent glass on all sides.

Asahi Glass
Another big shot in the glass industry. Asahi is from Japan and we knows Japanese is one of the most hardworking group. We also knows Japanese companies always comes with quality product. Same goes with Asahi. In 2013, Asahi Glass Corportation (AGC) announced their Dragontail tempered glass. Said to be even stronger then the Corning gorilla glass 2, the Dragontail is one of the main competitor for Corning. Unfortunately, there aren't any news that any screen protector are made from Dragontail glass. If you come across any, do share with me, I would like to get to know more from the company.

Conclusion:
I hope with this lengthy article, it will helps you to know more about screen protectors. It's up to you to choose on which type to apply on your phone but at least you made the right choice based on the correct information. Due to the high competition in the market, it's normal for resellers to try their best to use creative and innovative statements to convince you to buy from them. If you are not prepared, then you are the one to be blamed for being a victim.

to us, profit comes after quality.. we used to sell those oem china brand too so we know how much is the margin.. but to tell u the truth, customers feedback on those are really poor.. and worse, when i use the product myself, i can't even say its good.. how i dare to tell customer its good? if i did, means I lied to them.. and lying to customers in business is fatal. Short term perhaps if a student wanted to earn quick bucks, but for business owners, i think most will understand that for a business to be successful, u need to get trust from your customers, and in order to get it, u have to earn it hard. Accurate info, good customer service, fast service, and so on..

Thats y we insist the guinea pig must be us, n not our customers.. n most important, sharing is caring..

well, back to topic then..

while i didn't use mi3, but recommended a lot of my samsung users friends (close friends to switch) and they are so happy with it.. but the xiaomi sp seems difficult to apply, most of them screw up the installation, both the tester and the actual sp. Is that really hard to apply? i bought one along with the pb so i can try it and compare..

Yea, it's quite hard apply , first day i get Mi3 and i go friend shop to apply normal Diamond one, friend everyday apply SP one, also said Mi3 abit hard to apply , and due factory cutting size abit not accurate. Than yesterday just get XiaoMi official Clear Sp by sister from TW , cuz she bought than Mi Earphone and need add another RM10 for free postage. I try to apply , it's hard apply compare to other phone , and while top hole accurate , but bottom side abit sengek.  sweat.gif

Edit: Anyway official SP from xiaomi quality is not bad compared to other normal SP.
*
Thanks for the compliment. We hope to serve soon.. Hehe.. thumbup.gif

Anyway, based on your feedback, mi3 itself it's difficult to apply? Hmm. Shall tried it tomorrow when my Corning arrives.. Got 3 Cod with installation appointment.. Hehe..

I do agree with he challenges when the sp is not cut properly.. That's also one of the reason we chose IMOS. It's the only brand that use laser to cut instead of knife. When they first adapt to the technology, a lot says it's overkill... Use laser to cut sp... But now, most ppl appreciate that since the margin of misaligned using laser cut is less than 0.01mm.

Corning is actually suitable to build screen, but not good for build screen protector actually. The mainly reason due to its thickness against its flexibility. For SP, you would look for minimum 45 degree point of spinning the SP, which Corning can do around 45 degree but not more. For Lime Glass or someone called it cow paper glass, it is flexible to 90 degree. Of course as above explanation is also valid. But from what I know of, except for the price, I think this is another reason for why it is not widely used in SP and also due to this reason, the price for Corning type's SP are higher price(But just because they are rare and also export from some western countries or US).

Personally I think normal SP is good enough as the screen itself really protect a lot, but still I opt for good tempered glass SP is to maintain less fingerprint compare to normal clear sp. And also a water proof reason. Because Corning has a main issue, if you continue to have water spray on the screen the color is easy to change to dark yellow and affect the shapeness.
*
can your phone bend to 90 degree? Wow.. that good model u got.. and as for the availability of corning, in fact, a lot of china manufacturer used the terms gorilla glass to promote their sp, its just most of them are fake claims.

this is imos Solid EX Corning glass sp after 4 months of heavy use on my iPhone 5. Let me know if any of the sp in the market can have this oleophobic effect after 4 months of heavy use. And also, if you might forgotten, oleophobic coating helps to reduces the fingerprints and stains on your screen.

I want a SP which is Crystal Clear + Anti Finger print + (not so easy to be scratch), any suggestion ?

Another thing is, why need Corning Glass SP, our phone already came with Corning Glass 2 and why still need another layer on top?? not make sense right?

I did like to use the phone without any SP, just the finger print is too annoying sad.gif....
now I am using Anti-Glare SP, the screen PPI is like 200+ standard sad.gif
*
the sp requirement is similar with the actual screen. n it gives u the reason y corning is needed.
Wanted to know why u like phone without sp? clarity?
your question on why need another corning on top? so that u will have the same feel as naked screen but with extra protection better than a soda lime glass which only gives u protection but bad user experience. hope this explanation make sense.

or u can think it this way, why do people go for Camry when a proton saga can also drives them from point A to point B? Then u should have the answer why corning sp and not soda lime sp.

mine upgrade... if root already no OTA u need to push it in yourself everytime...
your choice.. i'm still thinking to push in Dev ROM or not... or just root n use...

2 possible reason..

1. sp not installed accurately
2. sp installed accurately but the cutting is off

thats y laser cut is the best.. less than 0.01mm gap.
