Wanted to switch to this one, but still very much comfortable with Antivir (a really effective free antivirus I can say, helped me detect some viruses in few occassions)

Gonna format my old P4 Desktop, and will give AVS a try instead of using my trusted Antivir

QUOTE(quintessential @ Oct 30 2006, 04:13 PM) It does have real time protection (as in whenever files are accessed in HDD/CD/FlashDrive, it gets scanned and virus is detected), but the missing function is proactive protectionQuoted from kaspersky website QUOTE Proactive protection This post has been edited by samurai1337: Oct 30 2006, 10:32 PM* Control over changes in the file system. With Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 it is possible to compile lists of applications, the component structure of which will be controlled, thus helping to prevent malicious programs from undermining the integrity of the application. * Monitors processes in the memory. The product monitors the activity of programs and processes that have been launched in the computer's memory and, at the same time, warns users of any dangerous, suspicious or hidden processes (that is, rootkits), and of unauthorized changes in routine processes. * Monitors changes in the operating system registry. The application controls the status of the system registry and notifies users of any suspicious objects or attempts to create hidden keys in the registry. * Blocks dangerous macros. Proactive protection affords control over the operation of macros based on Visual Basic for Applications in Microsoft Office documents and blocks dangerous macro-commands from being executed. * System restore. The system can be restored after malicious activity. Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 can roll back any changes made to the system by malicious programs. |

I think it keeps on increasing when your OS receive incoming files from your flash drive, floppy, CD or even from the web, AVS will scan it for you.
If you stop it, no scanning will be done. This post has been edited by samurai1337: Nov 3 2006, 12:10 AM |

QUOTE(kingmax @ Nov 3 2006, 12:38 AM) When i start my pc , it also increase without any cd , no internet or no flash drive. Not really just incoming files, whenever files are being accessed, AVS scans.Just start my pc it continue scanning. If i stop it , will it still protect from virus ? Sometimes i feel like my pc a bit slow after install AVS I don't think the real time scanning engine will affect your system THAT much, and if you stop it, the risk of getting infected will of course be relatively higher |

QUOTE(kingmax @ Nov 3 2006, 02:34 AM) thanks for telling. So is this antivirus power full ? and what is real time scan that being mention that AVS don't have this feature ? I mentioned it in post #43Basically, it's a more proactive approach that scans your memory processes, registry etc., other than just file access. |

Seems like neither AVS nor Kaspersky officially supports Vista yet. Any other recommendation for AV that works well in Vista?
