What parents told me.. find a house facing the sun rise, but not directly lol.. It brings light into the home, ur wet clothes can dry faster/longer than those house not getting sunlight. Moving towards sunset, u can lepak at balcony without worrying sun shining ur face while having ur tea time..

Yes....better take note of where your rooms are facing, any walls roasting from afternoon till evening will turn the rooms into oven.

It also depends on the orientation of your unit like example, corner unit or a unit beside you to help shield a bit from the sun or a unit behind you acting as a shield from the afternoon sun.
Think you better post the building plan. I'm a bit dizzy and confuse with what I'm trying to explain. |

My house is facing north-east... So it gets the indirect morning sun and not the afternoon sun. Preferably avoid facing western side unless there is no other option (due to developer's layout). Thats my opinion

facing east or west is just one thing. the other thing is the view.
Will you choose east facing with highway view or west facing with pool view. |

I have a house facing north-north west, and although the late afternoon/evening sun only strikes the walls of the front bedroom obliquely, this was enough to make the room feel very uncomfortable at night. Until I fixed it.anyone having houses/rooms facing north-west? plz advice |

It really depends which part of the year.. http://singaporenewshub.blogspot.com/2010/...-chart-for.html Generally west will be hot while east will be cool. North-West and South-West alternates half yearly to whom receives the noon-evening sun. |

I'm not a sifu on feng shui, but my personally experience is not to have your sleeping room window facing the West, as the heat from the sun will makes your room feel like you are living in a hell.

Avoid unit facing west, even north-west or south-west. It's gonna be hot at late afternoon.

Want to have cool house, the most important part are proper ventilation. Without this, you still can have a cool rooms, by turning air cond for longer hours.
Then you may have nose problem and other health issues related to it. |

Nearby area, got any high rise buildings also?high rise, normally the wind is strong? my level is 13 of 30 If yes, then it will be blocked. Nowadays the main structure already just full fill the minimum requirement for proper ventilation but yet owner want to lower it down some more by installing down lights and plaster ceilings. Thus of original poor ventilation becoming worst. Front and back of your flat shall have at least 1 window opened then only the air can circulate Else if just only the balcony window opened but front side no window opened, it will be the same |

Regarding unit orientation;
Visit site early morning and late evening to see how sunrise/sunset affects the unit. Also consider seasonal factors, in Malaysia during Summer months (May - Sept) the Sun is to the North during the day, whereas in Winter Months ( Nov - March) the sun is t the South during the day. Best way to reduce heat through windows, in order of effectiveness 1) Exterior Shading eg plants/trees , Sun Sails, Sun deflectors etc 2) Block-out curtains 3) Double Glazing 4) Tinting Of course the heat ot only comes through the Window, the concrete/brick wall can also transmit a lot of heat, which is not east to deflect though you could try. 1) Exterior Shading eg plants/trees , Sun Sails, Sun deflectors etc 2) Wall insulation For apartment, the best option is middle unit facing South or North then you will get enough mid day sun to dry clothes etc and stop mould but you don't get the harsh morning or worse evening sun. Cheers |
