The third diesel-electric submarine (SSK) Project 636, built in St. Petersburg Admiralty Shipyards for Vietnamese Navy in late 2014 will be delivered at the point of bases in Cam Ranh Bay, according to Interfax-Military News Agency, citing a source in the Russian shipbuilding industry.

"Currently, the third boat export series is working out the program of ship crew practice customer. This - the second stage of the marine part of the training. The first successfully completed 1 to July 20 in the area of the island of Hogland. During the first phase of the boat held submerged 57 hours, "- said the agency interlocutor.

According to him, 20 August boat will return to the factory, and then again after 10 days will be released into the sea. "In November, she will be transferred to the customer," - he said. The fourth boat series recently came to the factory sea trials.

According to the plan is the construction of the fifth and sixth corps. "Launching of the sixth boat series is scheduled for September next year," - said the agency interlocutor.

The first and second series of the Vietnamese boat HQ-182 "Hanoi" and HQ-183 "Ho Chi Minh City" in April became part of the 189th Brigade Navy submarine forces in Vietnam. Delivery to Kamran accomplished by the Dutch LASH.

Contract to supply Vietnam six diesel-electric submarines of Project 636 was signed in 2009 during the visit to Moscow by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. In addition to the construction of the submarines contract provides for the training of Vietnamese crews, as well as supply of necessary equipment and technical equipment.

Project 636 diesel-electric submarine is the third generation of submarines. These boats have a good modernization potential, allowing them to integrate new weapons, and in particular, anti-ship missile complex Club, significantly expanding the zone of destruction purposes. Due to the ultra-low noise in the West boats of this type are called "black hole".

outgun? nah... sby is out... acquisition? more like donation... so US can make indo bend towards their political will...

threatened? nah... only in business they cant trust...

wat foreign forces?

The initial plan was to purchase six "true" F-16 Block 52 with a budget of $750 million. But, there's also an offer for 30 F-16s second-hand grant, 24 will be refurbished for a cost of $750 million and the other six as spare parts.

So, these planes are not true donation, US still gets $750 million to improve the avionics to approach the Block 52 standard as well as overhauling the airframe and engine.

US doesn't have to make Indonesia bows to its political will, because Indonesia isn't concerned about doing any illegal things such as violating others' territories.

These planes will also be usable for only 15 years as stop-gap measures until more Sukhois are purchased and the production of KFX commences.

Foreign forces? ...think of Sulu and this

6 true f-16 b52 for 750mill? nah... too expensive

well, am sure part of the deal involves supporting us somehow

lol, US is not asking indo to attack somebody else... but by doing this that's in their favor... like keeping their troops away from AQ or ISIS or using military owned assets for terrorist activities.. to support US in south china sea dispute.. etc

msia is not indo  doh.gif

Iraq purchases 18 F-16IQ for $2.3 billion....$125 million each including weapons, parts and supports. The same with 6 F-16 Block 52 for $750 million.

Well almost all countries, including Russia confront Al Qaeda and ISIS. Does that mean Russia bow to US political will? Even if it's true, these planes are just stop-gap measures, used only until 2020's.

Jokowi's administration plans to significantly increase annual defense budget until up to 2% GDP, so there will be enough fund in 15 years to replace these refurbished F-16s.

South East Asia isn't Western Europe where countries mutually trust one another. Territorial intrusions happen regularly.

iraq's purchase is donation also... $2.3bill which iraq will nvr pay back.. it will be written off

did russia receive US planes?

well, he's making a big mistake... instead of using the $$$ to fill the void left over by subsidy... he's using it for non constructive purposes
*
I'm relating to the fact that the normal price of F-16 Block 52 including weapons, parts and supports is around $125 million each, not whether Iraq gets it as a donation or not.

Yes..Russia doesn't receive US planes. But it still confronts Al Qaeda and ISIS. The point is, Indonesia doesn't have to bow politically to US, because US still gets $750 million for upgrade tasks. So, there's no significant political implication for the grant of 30 F-16s.

Without Indonesia, those planes will rot in AMARC anyway and US doesn't get $750 million of contract.

Indonesia confirms acquisition of four Klewang-class stealth patrol ships

The chief of the Indonesian Navy (Tentera Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Laut, or TNI-AL) has confirmed that the Klewang-class stealth patrol ship programme has resumed and that the service will operate a class of at least four vessels.

Admiral Marsetio, chief of staff of the TNI-AL, confirmed the plans in an interview with IHS Jane's at the Indonesian Armed Forces headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on 14 August.

The stealth trimaran programme was suspended after first-of-class KRI Klewang was gutted by fire and damaged beyond repair at a naval port in Banyuwangi, East Java, weeks after its official launch on 31 August 2012. The vessel was still undergoing sea trials. There were no casualties in that incident but Indonesia's defence ministry suspended the programme indefinitely pending further investigations into the cause of the fire.

The Indonesian government has not released the results of the investigation into the fire but IHS Jane's understands that a new hull material, described by Saab as a "nanocomposite compound" that is stronger and stealthier, was chosen partly to mitigate the effects of similar calamities in the future.

Besides the four confirmed boats, Adm Marsetio also indicated that the navy might consider more vessels in the near future if options presented by the shipbuilders are attractive enough. "We could be looking at a class of between 6 to 20 vessels by 2024", he said. "The final number will depend on factors such as acquisition costs and offset conditions presented by shipbuilders, but for now we are looking at a class of four ships."

Peter Carlqvist, head of Saab Indonesia, confirmed to IHS Jane's on 15 August the number of vessels to be built but indicated that a contract has only been established for one ship. "We are hopeful that the contract for the other three ships will materialise very soon", said Carlqvist, who added that Saab is now the prime contractor for the programme and has received full financing from the Swedish government to fulfil the order for the four vessels. However the current vessel being built is produced in collaboration with Indonesian shipbuilder PT Lundin at its facility in Banyuwangi, East Java.

The 63 m Klewang-class features a wave-piercing trimaran design that allows the vessel to cut through waves and incorporates stealth features such as reduced acoustic, infrared, and magnetic signatures. The patrol craft is propelled by four MJP 550 water jets and can reach cruise and sprint speeds of 16 kt and 35 kt respectively.

The boats will be armed with four RBS15 Mk3 surface-to-surface missiles with active radar homing of up to 200 km and feature Saab's new Sea Giraffe 1X 3D compact radar, which will be mounted higher on the vessel's mast to increase coverage. The vessel's weapons and radar will be managed via Saab's 9LV Mk4 series combat management system (CMS), which incorporates the company's CEROS 200 air defence fire-control director.

Carlqvist also provided design updates, which include the integration of a Bofors 40 Mk4 (BAE Systems 40 mm Mk4) naval gun under a stealth cupola and a Saab electronic support measure (ESM) system that can intercept and identify the positions of mobile phone signals and radio calls.

"These will be very useful in counter piracy and illegal fishing missions where phone signals can be used as a target locator", said Carlqvist.

When asked of his opinion on the TNI-AL's consideration of operating up to 20 such vessels, Carlqvist said that the figure seems reasonable given that the Indonesian Navy has plans to increase its fleet by up to 200 ships by 2024. "Some of these might include the Klewang-class given its suitability for the archipelagic nature of Indonesia's maritime territories", he said.

The first Klewang-class vessel is expected to enter service by 2016.

Correction....the target for TNI-AL 2024 is a 274-ship navy

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/wor...green-water.htm

And yes...that includes patrol ships, tugs, LST, tall ships...in essence ships registered with KRI names. So it doesn't include speedboats and other small boats.

Example of patrol ships for TNI-AL is PC-40 class, KRI Birang (831), this is among the smallest ships with KRI registration.
