QUOTE(heavyduty @ Aug 17 2014, 07:28 PM) if no one actually provided arms to the belligerent parties we could have ended the war sooner. Cannot say every war as the same case, indeed some wars have been needlessly prolonged bloodshed because interested parties armed the side they backed and escalation happened between all sides. But sometimes arming the sides actually prevented more bloodshed due to everybody is adequately armed,so not any one side cannot afford to continue hostilities without heavy casualties to themselves.could have saved me from seeing the true face of evil too Also the type of wars like the Balkan wars, its not necessary for supplies of modern/advanced weapons to be handled by highly-trained soldiers are needed to do great damage. A squad of 50 Serbian Chetnik militiamen with a DSHK-armed pickup truck raiding a few Muslim village of unarmed & unprepared civilians can do a lot of damage in itself. |

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Aug 17 2014, 08:19 PM) calm heads were needed then.but that didn't really fly with both sides Indeed, the moment Yugoslavia broke apart, everybody was ethnically cleansing everybody,no exceptions. Not one side was innocent,be it Serbians, Muslims (Bosniaks) and Croatians, all tried to get rid of minorities in their breakaway republics.for the serbs, they couldn't give up arms because if they did,the muslims would kill them and for the muslims,NATO wasn't doing enough to stop the fighting and they needed to fight back.the muslims would try to provoke the serbs by firing from near our CPs which would lead to the serbs to fire back and peacekeepers would withdraw from the village.next day saw dozens of bodies on the street, worst job ever people like to think it was a purely good vs evil kind of war.it was more like bad guys vs bad guys with the civilians and peacekeepers stuck in between Bosnia-herzegovina got the least favorable hand, though. With a large percentage of Bosnian citizens comprising of orthodox Serbians, these instead tried to integrate themselves into Serbia and Montenegro instead of Bosnia-Herzegovina. When violence broke out,the military support given by Serbia to Bosnian Serbs only worsened the fact. Sadly, as often is in these type of conflicts, most of the worst massacres were done not by Army units, but by groups of semi-organized civilian militias. Neighbors killing neighbors. |

QUOTE(Frozen_Sun @ Aug 19 2014, 10:58 AM) That looks like Su-35 Easy mistake to misidentify the two (Su-27 & Su-35) by laypersons, but a self-proclaimed military fan such as myself should have noticed tho. So, what's new with our neighbors up north?
QUOTE ![]() BANGKOK (AP) — Three months after overthrowing Thailand's last elected government, this Southeast Asian nation's junta leader is stepping out of his army uniform for good — to take up the post of prime minister in a move critics say will only extend his time at the helm and consolidate the military's grip on power. Thailand's junta-appointed legislature voted unanimously Thursday to name Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha to the new job during a session in Bangkok. There was little doubt over the outcome since Prayuth was the only candidate. The 60-year-old leader is due to retire from the army next month but until then he can hold both positions. Thursday's appointment appears aimed in part at keeping him at the helm as the military implements sweeping political reforms that critics say are designed to purge the influence of the ousted ruling party and favor an elite minority that has failed to win national elections for more than a decade. Most politicians from the ousted ruling party, including former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, were briefly detained by the army — and released only after signing agreements effectively preventing them from speaking out. Violators, the junta has warned, will face prosecution. Although Prayuth has promised to eventually restore democracy and hold elections as early as 2015, analysts say the junta was working to remove all traces of Thaksin's influence before then. QUOTE(LTZ @ Aug 21 2014, 04:38 PM) Too cautious. Riot macamana pun, ini still situasi law enforcement, bukan military action. Rakyat US still ada hak bersuara walaupun dalam riot. Dekat US, kalau polis rasa satu tahap dah tak boleh handle situasi, Governor kena panggil National Guard. At least kerajaan negeri & polis boleh cakap la,kami dah tak boleh control rusuhan, pohon bantuan national Guard untuk ambik military action. Ok,serah pada National Guard. Ini sampai military action pun polis sendiri yang buat, kalau kat US dah dianggap melampaui batas kuasa polis.Setakat ni, takde laporan kata perusuh tembak senjata api atau serang anggota polis, memang ada cases looting dan pecah masuk so pada pendapat aku masih keadaan law enforcement lagi. Sepatutnya tahap ni masih guna riot police, bukan polis paramilitary units. Ada beberapa veteran tentera US complain, masa diorang serang Iraq pun diorang tak bawak senjata seberat tu. Itu time perang tu. ![]() Setakat ni aku tak pernah tengok PDRM hantar PGA bawak M16 bila ada rusuhan kat sini. |

QUOTE(heavyduty @ Aug 21 2014, 05:08 PM) sad thing is those vests and helmets won't protect against blunt hits and knives.things more likely to be used by looters Wat? Helmet not protect against blunt hits? buat rugi je helmet tu kevlar....baik belikan helmet plastik budak2.Vest pun mesti la ada ceramic ballistic insert. Gaya tu satu hal, intent tu lain pulak. Ni salah satu kesan dari 10 tahun US tak habis2 berperang, bila nak drawdown, barang2 surplus tentera diberikan kat polis. Veteran2 tentera pun ramai join polis & jadi instructor latihan. ![]() |

China debuts long-range heavy ATGM
The PLA debuts its long-range heavy ATGM missile 'AFT-10' during the Eurasian "Peace Mission 2014" military exercises. The missile, first unveiled at the Eurosatory military exhibition is a optical-fibre guided missile with an N-LOS (Non-Line Of Sight) guidance system. The system is guided by an operator via an a all-weather/IR camera mounted n the missile itself that provides stand-off protection for operators that limits exposing themselves to the counter-fire from the target. The missile is purported to be able to reach ranges of about 10km. The system is predicted to have a huge improvement over contemporary SACLOS ATGM missiles currently fielded by the PLA such as the HJ-10 'Red Arrow'. ![]() ![]() Other advanced ATGM missiles unveiled at the Eurosatory exhibition is the HJ-12 fire-and-forget ATGM missile (analogous to the US Javelin missile) and the ATF-11 laser-guided ATGM (analogous to the Russian Kornet missile). QUOTE(MrUbikeledek @ Aug 27 2014, 11:29 AM) Want to ask. Is it possible to rent a military equipments from other country for a short duration, say, 2-3 month? No national military/defense company is going for that kind of deal.In cases like this (small scale, short term defense/security),western countries will hire equipment from defense contractors, i.e PMCs or mercenaries. |
