country that have defence pact can ask for military assistance if needed. Of course, most of them feel obliged to help if asked. Also, u have to pay them for the fuel and ammunition cost

but it more of armed forces pride, if such small scale invasion canot be contained and need to foreign assistance. Malu lah the armed forces in that country. Dunno whre to hide face laugh.gif

Experts dismiss report of China's 'supersonic submarine tech

user posted image

A submarine that can cross the Pacific in two hours? That is improbable, experts here said on Wednesday, commenting on a South China Morning Post report on so-called supersonic submarine technology developed by China.

The submarine would work by supercavitation, creating an air bubble around the submarine to reduce drag caused by water. According to the story, the vessel's exterior would be sprayed with a liquid membrane that reduces water drag and allows it to increase its speed up to 75kmh or more, at which it is able to enter the state of supercavitation, while the liquid membrane can be used to steer the vessel by creating different levels of friction on different parts of the ship. In theory, the report said, a submarine could hit speeds of 5,800kmh. The Hong Kong-based paper's story was published in The Straits Times on Monday.

While supercavitation is an established concept, said experts, having a submarine travel through water at the speed of sound in water is a bigger stretch. Professor Khoo Boo Cheong, director of defence research institute Temasek Laboratories, said supercavitation works by creating an air bubble around the submerged body, which cuts drag caused by water. "It's like waving your hand in air versus water. In air, the resistance is much less; in water, the resistance is tremendous," he noted.

gagah samudera class not stealth design,
Depend RMN stealth design is importance key or not, but usually now stealth design is standard for new waership now.
*
unlikes planes, stealth feature doesnt really affect the hull's integrity or performance... planes on the other hand gotta trade maneuverability, payload and performance..

*

Mrt and hsr dia orang boleh keluar bond mah.
Masih boleh funding sampai billion of dollars.

Not sure on the procurement though.
but the government always have the last say.
Evaluation been done by the military personnel though.
*
cost of financing also need $$$... hsr 40 bill, mrt 40 bill... 80 bill... financing cost 5%, 4 bill... there goes ur baget

even heavy weapons by military personnel? a lot of developed countries seem to have both military and prof. civilian input.. was reviewing another country's procurement SOP... the civilians select the choices, the military test n give feedback... but other matters all decided by civilian but final acceptance by military.. so got check n balance

QUOTE(yinchet @ Aug 29 2014, 01:17 AM)
But then economy benefits created by mrt and hsr will huge for the country.
I'm still okay with the idea of improving the public transportation.
But I do not like the idea of subsidies such as brim and petrol.
look at singapore they constantly improving their military and their country infrastructure as well.
thus I dun see the point of mrt and hsr will eat up the military budget.
*
cutting subsidies is good, as long as the $$$ saved is used for constructive activities including defense... problem lies when there's leakage.. to cap the budget to the gdp is a good thing.. so there's an incentive to develop both the economy and defense at the same time... as for esscom's case... i would agree that a special one off fund should be given hopefully at the expense of ns

to think that sg's armed forces is sg's defense is wrong... almost every aspect of life in sg is part of their defense... any big GLC there's surely someone from the military... cabinet ministers... etc etc and all are very highly educated... following d footsteps of israel.. attack on the economy is also an attack to them

QUOTE(LTZ @ Aug 30 2014, 08:35 AM)
Normally in jungle warfare u dont wear  vest & helmet...easier to manouvre. But this time, maybe our army seldom wear this protection so they want to get use to it.

I remember, during communist our army didnt wear this, reason; easy to manouvre, crawl, less noise....and no helmet means to listen better. But its only for jungle warfare which we are the best
*
communist time manada... lol

QUOTE(KYPMbangi @ Aug 30 2014, 08:49 AM)
Ballistic vest is now a standard wear on those "hot zone", particularly sabah at this time
Usually can only see they wear it when going on UN peacekeeping mission oversea

during sulu invasion.. some pakai some didnt pakai, that why some kena shot injury
now all wear, easier. Not a direct order must wear from what i know of but just to keep thing simpler all pakai and get used to it

US oni wear body armor when entering hot zone or live round, saw the yellow blank firing attachment (BFA) mean no live round loh
*
ya... tak pakai... d polis lagi lucu... hope they are well equipped and discipline the next time..

QUOTE(junchuan @ Aug 30 2014, 12:29 PM)

TAIPEI: Taiwan plans to spend TW$74.8 billion (S$3.1 billion, US$2.5 billion) in the next nine years to acquire anti-missile systems to boost its aerial defences against China, a lawmaker and media said Saturday.

The defence ministry aims to purchase the locally-made Tien Kung 3 (Sky Bow 3) surface-to-air missile system between 2015 and 2024 to replace the ageing Hawk missile systems, said lawmaker Lin Yu-fang of the parliament's defence committee. This will be the biggest procurement of domestically-made weapon systems in recent years, Lin said, citing a defence budget plan submitted to the parliament for approval on Friday.

The Tien Kung 3 surface-to-air missile system, developed by Taiwan's Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology, is designed to counter tactical ballistic missiles for air defence missions and missile interception, according to Lin. The institute reportedly has spent more than TW$20 billion to develop the anti-missile system since 1996. Taiwan unveiled the Tien Kung 3 missile to the public at a national day parade in 2007 and tested it at a major missile drill in 2011.

Taiwan's Apple Daily newspaper quoted former defence minister Kao Hua-chu as saying that the Tien Kung 3 system can help intercept China's cruise missiles and counter the threats of its J-20 stealth fighter to strengthen Taiwan's aerial defence capabilities.

Tensions between Taipei and Beijing have eased markedly since Ma Ying-jeou became Taiwan's president in 2008 on a China-friendly platform. He was re-elected in 2012. But China still considers the self-ruled island as part of its territory awaiting reunification, by force if necessary. The two sides split in 1949 at the end of a civil war.

Taiwanese experts estimate the People's Liberation Army currently has more than 1,600 missiles aimed at the island. Defence officials were not immediately available for comment.
