i just updated some vital infos in page 1. Hope all the noobs read it first before posting your question here. Pls inculcate good discussion here so that questions which is not found in page 1 will be responded here immediately. Reason being was, many times noobs questions are too many here and it drown or covered those really important question or vital discussion.
I dont mean to be rude, but again pls dont simply post a repetitive/answered question without first reading the page 1.
Thank you. suntzulee

QUOTE(Nxxbkiller @ May 30 2014, 03:43 PM) Thanks for the help Last question, I heard someone complained OTG not working after update to kitkat, it is true? I got a question here too. When i OTG a memory card to mi3 via OTG cable. It is detected as USB storage. the problem is i cant seem to copy any file or create a folder in this USB storage. However copy files from this memory card to Mi3 internal storage is possible. Hence, how to make this memory card or USB storage writeable?

QUOTE(wcnew @ May 30 2014, 04:13 PM) bro i think you mistaken what i meant here....OTG if readable only no need to install stickmount. But if you want to make it writeable, then stickmount doesnt work at all....

QUOTE(sanosizo @ May 30 2014, 04:16 PM) how to write external media on kitkat. 1. Look for the platform.xml file in the system/etc/permissions folder. Make a backup before editing. 2. Find <permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"> 3. Add <group gid="media_rw"/> under it. 4. Check and set the proper file permission. 5. Reboot. bro, step 4. what to check and set? after i rebooted, still cant writeable....

QUOTE(sanosizo @ May 30 2014, 04:40 PM) system files have special permission. if you use root explorer or root browser, select the file and hold until you get a menu. look for Permission. system file should only have 4 checkbox checked (3 on left column and 1 top on middle column). I can't guarantee this would work on mi3 though but it worked on others. wait bro, my issue here is usb storage is not writeable. meaning i cant transfer or copy let say a jpeg file from my internal storage of Mi3 to the usb storage when i connect via OTG cable. I dont mean to do any changes on system files....do you get me?

QUOTE(Fasap @ May 30 2014, 04:00 PM) If not mistaken 4.4 kitkat google disable access to write on any connected card unless to allowed folder maybe can read here: http://www.androidcentral.com/kitkat-sdcard-changes But there are alot of patches and workaround apps available on playstore provided that the phone is rooted. bro can recommend the app to me? QUOTE(sanosizo @ May 30 2014, 04:16 PM) how to write external media on kitkat. 1. Look for the platform.xml file in the system/etc/permissions folder. Make a backup before editing. 2. QUOTE(wcnew @ May 30 2014, 05:07 PM) Your rom already rooted..what harm can you get when you change the permission? ok let me clear this cloud as precise as possible...when i connect a pendrive/memory card to mi3 via OTG cable, mi3 detected it as OTG usb under root explorer...now OTG usb folder is not writeable at all. I try to change permission but it doesnt allow me saying "Some SD card not allow to change permissiom". So, i cant copy files to this OTG usb folder or create a folder in it....hope i explain everything clear here...Else i really dunno how to say anymore...

QUOTE(wcnew @ May 30 2014, 05:20 PM) Did u try this? 1)root your rom (you already rooted) 2) install supersu(just type supersu on playstore) 3)install stickmount 4)after u launch the app will prompt superuser acess request (click grant) 5)Run StickMount and tap "Mount" OTG device will appear at /sdcard/usbStorage/***, where *** will usually be sda1 Open Explorer and goto usbStorage/sda1 to see the OTG drive contents. done everything as you said above. when i opended sda1 and i see all the OTG contents but i cant make it writeable... omg how many times do i need to repeat myself...this is getting insane... sorry, my bad temper. perhaps my bad mood today...is ok, let me certify this...OTG works in Mi3 but the storage is not writeable.. KIT KAT has blocked the access.... This post has been edited by suntzulee: May 30 2014, 05:33 PM

QUOTE(sanosizo @ May 30 2014, 05:30 PM) like I said, you cant copy files to otg usb folder because kitkat does not allow you to. thats where the system file fix comes in. in theory, that platform.xml control the write access so by adding that line, hopefully it will grant the write access to any external media. to do this, you have to modify a system file. after you edit a system file, the permission settings will change. thats why you need to change it back. sorry, what system file are you talking about here? can specify clearly?
