I gave birth in UMSC in 2011, so the costing may have changed since I did it. However, it was RM5k for natural birth and RM7k for c-section. Flat rate, no matter if you have induction, pethidine, laughing gas, epidural or all of the above (which was what I did). You give birth in a room of your own, no sharing.

BUT my sister (also give birth in 2011) was trying for natural, and ended up having to go for c-section due to emergency. So they charged her for BOTH packages, totalling her bill to RM12k.

I went with Prof Siti Zawiyah. Very busy lady, with long wait for check-up appointments, but if you want to be sure to have minimal hospital interference, she's the lady to go with, because unless you beg and pester her, she won't even want to give you painkillers! You can trust her not to give you c-section just to fit her busy schedule. That's why sometimes got to wait so long at her appointments; she has to attend all the other mummies giving birth when they are giving birth naturally, not by schedule through c-section or induction. I had to have induction because I had gestational diabetes; my sister had to have c-section because the natural birth stalled. We trusted her to make the call because that was safest, not what was most convenient to her as a doctor.

Her manner is very like strict mother. She scolded me because I didn't stick to my diabetes diet! Other doctor might have just given me insulin or other medicine already, but she insisted I monitor my sugar level and keep a food diary to report to her at next check up instead. She truly tries to keep medicine and hospital interference to minimum.

If you want ultrasound every month, don't go to her. She won't do it. But Prof PC Tan is an ultrasound expert, and can get great ultrasound pictures, even with the basic ultrasound equipment provided by UMSC.

Prof Siti was not cheap in 2011 and I think her prices went up because I did an annual check up on my birthday and it was pricier than any of my checkups with her when I was pregnant. But maybe her gynae check up price is different from pregnant checkup price, I dunno.
