I gave birth in UMSC in 2011, so the costing may have changed since I did it. However, it was RM5k for natural birth and RM7k for c-section. Flat rate, no matter if you have induction, pethidine, laughing gas, epidural or all of the above (which was what I did). You give birth in a room of your own, no sharing.
BUT my sister (also give birth in 2011) was trying for natural, and ended up having to go for c-section due to emergency. So they charged her for BOTH packages, totalling her bill to RM12k. I went with Prof Siti Zawiyah. Very busy lady, with long wait for check-up appointments, but if you want to be sure to have minimal hospital interference, she's the lady to go with, because unless you beg and pester her, she won't even want to give you painkillers! You can trust her not to give you c-section just to fit her busy schedule. That's why sometimes got to wait so long at her appointments; she has to attend all the other mummies giving birth when they are giving birth naturally, not by schedule through c-section or induction. I had to have induction because I had gestational diabetes; my sister had to have c-section because the natural birth stalled. We trusted her to make the call because that was safest, not what was most convenient to her as a doctor. Her manner is very like strict mother. She scolded me because I didn't stick to my diabetes diet! Other doctor might have just given me insulin or other medicine already, but she insisted I monitor my sugar level and keep a food diary to report to her at next check up instead. She truly tries to keep medicine and hospital interference to minimum. If you want ultrasound every month, don't go to her. She won't do it. But Prof PC Tan is an ultrasound expert, and can get great ultrasound pictures, even with the basic ultrasound equipment provided by UMSC. Prof Siti was not cheap in 2011 and I think her prices went up because I did an annual check up on my birthday and it was pricier than any of my checkups with her when I was pregnant. But maybe her gynae check up price is different from pregnant checkup price, I dunno. |

In a private hospital (pm if you want to know), it was cheaper for ante natal than at UMSC. We should know, we went to both.
Prof. Siti is good, but if you have a low pain threshold, be prepared to bite something.... |

My wife delivered at UMSC with Dr.Vallikannu recently and my baby is about 10 weeks old. We had to go for c-sect as wife had some complication and baby was delivered just after 36 weeks. Total cost for C-Sect cost less than RM6K :-) Both mummy & baby is fine and we had good experience at UMSC. Only scribe about UMSC is the freaking parking (can get expensive as no ceiling per day) and caterer kept goofing up our opted food.

QUOTE(jumper08 @ Jul 9 2014, 07:09 PM) UMSC is semi private? Is this the standard rate? How about the room, what kind of room thet hsve? How many day if staying? UMSC is private. It was set up to encourage higher-ranking, important UMMC doctors to stay with UMMC by giving them the opportunity to earn extra income in a private setting, instead of leaving UMMC to earn big bucks with other private hospitals, so UMSC does use some UMMC facilities. For example, the UMSC maternity ward is in the same building as UMMC's maternity ward. You get your own room. OK la. If you want better hotel-style treatment, better go with other private hospitals, but if you want top-notch doctors who really care about people (that's why they still work at the government teaching hospitals even though they could earn better elsewhere), then that's why you should go to UMSC or UKMSC.QUOTE(rose6580 @ Jan 4 2016, 11:03 AM) They are different, so which is better depends on your preferences.Prof Siti is like a strict mother/teacher. I went with Prof Siti for my firstborn. I got gestational diabetes and she insisted that I report my blood sugar to her three times a week, keep a diet diary and show her. I had absolute trust that what she did was good for me and baby. She won't suggest any tests/treatments that is not completely necessary, not even painkillers. You have to demand for painkillers or other tests/treatment if you want them because she won't suggest them. Under her, I had ultrasound only twice the entire pregnancy. She takes her time with you, so the wait can be very long, because she spends a while with each patient. I went with Prof Tan for my second baby, born in May 2015, because Prof Siti was on sabbatical in early 2015. I'm not sure that she's back from her UMSC sabbatical yet, though I heard she's back to work at UMMC. PC Tan is an ultrasound specialist, so every visit he will use the ultrasound machine. He's more jolly in attitude than Prof Siti, and explains things patiently and very well. He likes to give suggestions to you and it's up to you to decide yes or no, but he's very efficient at checkup and you're out the door quite promptly. |

QUOTE(hanishoney @ Jan 11 2016, 06:32 PM) I only gave birth twice. Hopefully you'll find someone else who has given birth with someone else there to recommend for you. I'm quite interest to try out UMSC. I have some questions that I hope you could help answer.- What was the cost for consultation per visit? - Is there additional charges for single rooms? - During your second delivery, was the price still the same? - Are the doctors that you recommend both only base in UMSC or they have their own private clinics as well? Thanks in advanced! |

Thanks in advanced! UMSC Maternity only has single rooms, as far as I know. I could be mistaken. You could call them and confirm. They would be a more reliable source of information because you don't know if I'm lying through my arse. The price was not the same. They have totally changed the pricing scheme, and it's a lot more complicated now. The two doctors that I have gone to are based in UMMC. They are full-time teachers paid by the government to teach more doctors in our country in their specialties. Their practice in UMSC is their only private clinic. |

Total slightly below RM9K for both time, including baby nursery charges. Initially wanted to go c-sect straight for 2nd but Prof Eugene said already open 10CM and went natural first. The only thing I hate is the slow payment counter during checkups (main road UMSC clinics). When admitted, it was still under renovation and the lobby look messy back then. Parking is limited and expensive. Otherwise it is a pretty good experience. My SIL went to DSH and c-sect straight also 15K. Not sure about his package but I also avoided DSH last time after 2 checkup visit. Did almost nothing but charges very expensive. This post has been edited by andrekua2: Mar 3 2017, 11:47 PM |
