1 ) Can portable air con function like normal wall attached air con ?
2 ) Does portable air con lasts long ?

3 ) Any suggestion for the brand ? price ?

i didnt have any wall mounted air-cond so i cant compare,
but my electric bill when up +rm70/month using the 1.0hp in a not so seal room

air cond on 10pm-5am daily
temp set to 26 deg c ( but strangely the air cond seldomly achieve this temp )
2 adult 1 child
room area ~22m square

the unit is quit big and heavy + it come with a big vent host , so that you can vent the hot air outside

hope this help,

law of thermodynamic - conservation of energy

you must remember that the heat must go somewhere

usually it just blast the hot air at the back
useless indoor

use only if next to a vent like beside a window or a door

the ducting hose is used to channel the hot air outside, the outside wont come through the vent during its operational, because there's always a constant hot air flow outside.

in the picture, the white plastic panel at the end of the hose is the accessories that come with the air-cond,
but you must check as my second unit does not have that accessories.

my room window is not like in the picture - one big glass ; but the old one; multiple sheet of glass
so i just take out one glass sheet and place the end of the vent there,

i used polystyrene board ; make a hole the size of the vent end port ; and cut the board to the size of my window and fit it there.

hope its help

Yes that is true. The portable air-con has a hose for this specific purpose. Hot air blown out from the hose has to be isolated from the room/space you want to cool. If not, just wasting electricity.

In case of the fridge, the isolation is the fridge door. The air inside the fridge is cold at the expense of your kitchen (and you while cooking in kitchen smile.gif )

another thing about portable aircond you have to prepare some cups or mangkuk for the dripping water, in my moms house it will drip alot of water and fill the mangkuk after 30 mins, i solved this by getting an aquarium hose and extending outside the house.

its Mdea brand, Not sure if it depends on the humidity of the house, but you can normally see some split unit aircond they have a water outlet pipe right?
Portable aircond have that too but it just drips behind it.

I have a Hesstar 1.0HP one. Have been using it for nearly 4 yrs. It says 'auto-evaporate water, no need drainage', but after about 1.5 yrs, the small PVC plate provided to put at the drip hose (sticks out about an inch) gets full very fast after turning the unit off. So I just bought a rubber hose from hardware shop and extend the drip hose to my bathroom.

As for the exhaust hose mounting, I just grab a piece of plywood about the size of a multisheet glass and fix them in after cutting a hole to fit the hose. laugh.gif

And one more thing, this unit needs the usual cleaning like wall-mounted split units (inside, not just the filters) when the wind felt weak. I was fed up after asking few contractors because they said never cleaned this type before so not interested to do the job. The HQ says need to deliver the unit to them for cleaning service, but that things is darn heavy... So I decided to dismantle the covers and clean the inside myself. Did it twice already. So far so good. Save some $$ too. flex.gif biggrin.gif

Which Midea unit you have? It suppose to have an evaporator built in and it suppose to auto switch off when the water level is full. If your unit have this feature and it is still dripping water then you need to go claim warranty.

No Bucket Design

Bucket free design brings satisfying cooling power. Draining of condensate water is not required as it would be evaporated automatically along the operation.

My electric bill is around RM80~RM85, one of my housemate has this portable AC. He uses for around 8H/day.

My bill now is around RM120~RM130.

Sharing my experience..

I got 1 midea portable aircond.. 1hp.. Seems like the normal wall mounted aircond save more electricity than the portable 1. The main issue with the portable aircond is the noise produced and hot air not properly dissipated outside the room thru the hot air duct which will cause the aircond work harder to cool down the air.

Actually both work the same way. Fridge removes heat inside the fridge to outside of the fridge. Aircon removes heat inside of a room to outside of the room. So, if you want to use your fridge as air-con, you just need to make sure the fridge body is outside the room completely smile.gif

The size of the rubber hose?
Can the water be channelled to higher window or it's gravitational? Mine is Hesstar HAC-AE90. Thanks.

This thing inefficient and is a waste of electricity due to its design

It uses the room cold air to cool down its hot condenser coil and compressor, the heat is then thrown out as hot air. Means cold air in the room also get thrown outside used for cooling compressor and hot condenser coil. Only half gets back in the room.

A split unit hot condenser and compressor is cooled by blower fan of the outdoor unit. No wastage of using cool air in the room to cool compressor down. Cool air remains in the room, faster cooling more efficient.

Wah, you necro my post... laugh.gif And your unit is the same as mine. biggrin.gif

Anyway, the water rubber hose size is about 1/4', I think. Can't remember as I don't use it anymore. The water outlet is just a drainage, so of course it is governed by gravity. You go decide how to get rid of that water lor... good luck. smile.gif
