QUOTE(qhalidx @ May 28 2014, 10:10 AM)
guys,
question here, i used to have root on my s3 and i am familiar with rooting procedure. Last night suddenly my phone automatically update thru OTA and i lost my root. Today i tried the rooting process and found that stuck because my phone is ID:COM is unreadable during after booting into download mode but is found by odin on normal boot. I don't think its the cable or usb problem, any suggestion?
*
Reinstall the Samsung USB driver or try another USB port.

even if its running on normal mode?reinstall the whole kies or using the kies reinstall driver? tried all my usb port on my laptop but still have the same result.

This is what I use,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
I have given up on Kies already after having it on my machine for a year. Pretty much useless as backup is limited.

Your issue to me does seem like just USB drivers problem if everything else is working fine with your phone (i.e. download mode, recovery mode and phone operates normally)

i have previously mentioned a few post/page back since i can't root my phone. From all the reply on xda it seems that my bootloader has changed and it prevents odin from reading my phone during download mode and now many suggest is downgrade thru kies.

TL;DR version - OTA update has broken root, try to re-root but odin can't read id com on download mode but not in working conditon. Tried many different ver of odin, usb cables and 2 laptops still don't work.
*
The solution is to flash ICS stock ROM (which gives you old bootloader and can overwrite newer JB bootloader as well). Then use Mobile ODIN to flash your new 4.1 or 4.3 JB ROM - Mobile ODIN will never overwrite bootloader.

NOTE: If PC ODIN cannot be used to flash your ICS ROM, then have to check if Kies can do a wipe phone for you to install the ICS stock ROM... don't think Kiees supports downgrade normally.

I remember i did asked you to post your step of rooting but you seems to ignoring me. It is very hard to help if you reluctant to tell us what you did. From your steps for sure we can point out your problem if abnormal... sweat.gif  doh.gif

guys, ur ext sd card all use exFAT format??
*
Mine yes coz Boeffla kernel supports it. And why coz I may need to carry large files on my S3 to copy to my Notebook as backup for work as well as the random odd movie for travel.

QUOTE(miloy2k @ Jul 9 2014, 08:05 AM)
Go for ori samsung extended battery or yoobao or Anker or zerolemon  notworthy.gif

Sun Global is meh imo
*
Am using Anker 7200 mAh now, love the battery life and don't mind the bulk. The only thing is the much weaker phone coverage signal. Where I stay, I can get 4 or 5 bars. Now I get either 0/1/2 bars only doh.gif
But in major/main town centers, of coz no problem with signal.

AFAIK zerolemon have no issue on that hmm.gif

btw hows the SOT? 4.2k can get easily 6-7hours 7.2k hmm.gif

can share the sot if possible  notworthy.gif
*
I had a problem with a weird RILD bug where the RILD process under the Phone app is a huge battery drain (only got 2.5 days from my Anker). Only recently found the solution was to shut down the phone for 5 or 10 minutes. (Both hard and soft reboot will not work to fix this problem.)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2396514

So will share later once I drain my battery today/tomorrow as the stats are not accurate now. But I recall it lasted me about 4 days with more than 10 hours of on screen time... to hit 10%. Anker battery instructions says to best full charge once hits 10%

S5 lte-A

http://28mobile.com/Product/View/68834/sam...s-32gb-black-4g
The battery will affect the signal?
*
Yes, if the mobile signal is not particularly strong in your area; once you use a large extended battery for S3, the mobile signal is definitely impacted (however, if it is already very 'strong' 5 bars, it may still be 5 bars after you install the battery). If you look at Amazon reviews, you can see people have returned the Anker and Zerolemon for exactly this reason. It really depends on your telco and coverage area.

phone is already 2 years old and it started to slow down and sometimes it hangs.

Question if i root my phone will it solved my problem.
*
If root,
1. can run trim anytime (newer kernels will auto trim) - trim required on eMMC when storage has been in heavy use (deletes/writes), see example of trim app (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2104326). It can cause performance slow down.
2. can greenify apps with auto hibernation, see https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...isfeng.greenify

OR just do a full wipe and reflash
OR factory reset.

Main causes of slowdown for me are having many apps installed and many apps running at startup, hibernate them or make sure they don't start at boot (Xposed boot manager module can help with that as well). Installing/deinstalls often will need trim on demand to help with performance.

hmm. first time heard of trim. From the FAQ, it seems like trim is similar to "defragment" in pc? Also, from the FAQ, its says it affect ICS version only wo.. So far you find any improvement after running trim in JB?  hmm.gif
*
Yupe, similar.
http://pocketnow.com/2013/08/06/android-trim-support

In my experience, after installation/deinstallation of large apps or after doing delete app cache/thumbnail cache, there is a bit of noticeable slowdown, so I just run the trim filesystem from Boeffla kernel config (I used to use the trim app when I was on Perseus). I like to control my own phone biggrin.gif

All the newer 4.3.x and higher JB stock kernel will auto trim on a schedule.

once you have rooted your phone. you can do anything you want..  biggrin.gif
hmm.. auto trim? meaning still needs to install the apps right? or by default new android version rom/kernnel can do the trim by themselves?
blur  rclxub.gif

Yes, for Nexus, definitely fstrim (which is the trim command) runs in the background and triggered automatically (within 24hrs?)... Not sure 100% about Samsung but I would assume so as well since it is Android 4.3 framework (kernel?) feature.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7185/android...l-nexus-devices.

Stock S3 JB 4.3 kernel supports fstrim command. You just need root to run it.

Guys, just now I tried to do the software update on my phone to 4.3. However, after the packages downloaded in my phone and the phone reboot, the phone stuck at the samsung logo for around 1 hour. So I pull out the battery and reboot the phone again, but same thing happens. Any advice about what should I do now? If it is possible I hope can keep my data in the phone like notes, pictures etc. By the way, the computer able to detect my phone when it is connecting via USB. But I am unable to transfer files to the computer sad.gif

p/s : using stock firmware and x root.
*
Yes, have heard many cases OTA soft brick the phone

1. Try with a different cable (or cable that is guaranteed working)
2. Check if can go recovery mode, if can, wipe cache partition and reboot

OR redo the ROM flash directly
1. Download the Stock ROM
2. Go to download mode
3. Use PC ODIN to flash the ROM

If NOT working, likely you have to do a wipe (lose all data)
1. Go recovery mode, wipe data/factory reset and reboot
2. If not working, then redo ROM flash

S5 not the root cause that causing Samsung loosing market shares, are there Firmware, Marketing, R&D and Innovation team failed to deliver...

They copy too much, spend to much, slow updating and trying to align their profit that causing it...

Look at how China maker did... less advertisement but better phone with lower price... thumbup.gif
*
Exactly my views! Let me be more specific
Marketing - huge spends to compete with Apple
Firmware - very slow to release, initial releases buggy and often causes OTA problems, bootloader locks/downgrade issues, bootloader and Knox warranty rejections, no Exynos source code
R&D - Exynos still not as good as generally as Qualcomm Snapdragon, on the low end side only recently decided to use MediaTek in upcoming phones
Innovation - Time to get a team that can really innovate beyond S3 (S4 & S5 is really meh)

Dear all Sifu,

My bro S3 battery kaput already...

Now I found 2 option.

1. RM50 Genuine S3 Battery from Lelong
http://www.lelong.com.my/9733-genuine-9733...7-01-Sale-I.htm

2. RM89.90 3000mAh SunGlobal Battery.

Do you guys think the RM50 S3 battery from lelong is really Genuine one? Any advise? The 3000mAh SunGlobal Battery many people said it actually doesn't have so much capacity (it actually have 2100mAh only)...

Dear all Sifu, Is there any better option??  any advise please?
*
If can afford it and want to avoid problems, go get a original Samsung Battery from official SEP (Samsung Elite Partners); more expensive but guarantee to be genuine. That lelong posting 99% cannot trust, even chance of 1% real, it is probably taken from a genuine set who knows how long ago and resold in this way. (The buyer of that genuine set probably got a fake battery instead).

Plenty of complaints about Sun Global battery quality (and it is only slightly cheaper than original Samsung) and I am sure you have heard of many horror stories of exploding 3rd party batteries...

That is a good find. If they're willing to provide 6 months of warranty - have more peace of mind and likely to be original.
