my S3 has been super overheating (feels like it - superhot in my hands) and battery has been draining super fast, despite me buying a new battery (not original).

at first i thought it was the battery, but even after i changed it twice, the heat and battery drain is still happening.

finally, decided to remove my protecting casing (i was using rock) and surprisingly now everything ok. battery life is much longer and the phone doesn't feel so hot (just the normal S3 heat).

another thing to note is that if you find your S3 very lagging from power off > power on and also when switching between apps, check and see whether it's caused by your whatsapp. i set my whatsapp to pop up the messages when the screen is off and i realised that it made my phone lag like gila. after disabling it, seems to be ok.

not sure whether anyone else had this happen to them before but hopefully it's helpful for some. FYI, my phone not rooted before and i've been using it for 2 years liao.

thanks for the explanation regarding the CPU throttle due to excessing heating. makes a lot of sense to me. and also having someone concur that the rock casing trapping heat also helps me feel less stupid (it sounded really dumb when i was typing it)....

the replacement battery i've checked and it hasn't enlarged or become pregnant. I made i bought it from trusted seller, and he was so willing to stand by his product that he has 6 months warranty for it and has changed mine for free twice due to the heating issue. looks like the non-original battery + rock casing = disaster. I've ditched the casing and the battery isn't overheating and lasts a lot longer now...

hi guys, can i ask what are most popular s3 roms/kernels right now?
i've keep my s3 for quite some time after using moto g but thinking of using back s3 as it has better camera and sd card support. I'm just a regular user, my stock s3 is so lag right now and battery also drains fast. What rom is fast, less lag, good app compatibility? i prefer touchwiz base coz i like the calendar/social app integration.
Any suggestion? surf thru xda but cant make decision.
