Above RM500 is taxable, but kinda depends on luck at times as well...If lucky, even above 500 can lepas...If you don't wanna risk it, keep your shipments below 500...

I see. But how would they know if its more than RM500 or not? By receipt?

By declared value+shipping cost...This is an example when buying from Amiami:

Some shops can under-declare the value if you request so can lepas Kastam easier...However (Sifus here correct me if I'm wrong), Kastam may request invoice/receipt if the declared value seems fishy...

I see. Planning to buy a figure online but this is my first time buying. Any online shops with lowest price to recommend? Also the figure I plan to buy is only on pre-order now. Is it worth it to buy those pre-order items?

For pre-order figures, I'd recommend Amiami...Very reliable and trustworthy, but also very by-the-book, so they will not under-declare anything...If you need to under-declare, Nippon-Yasan and BigInJap are good choices, pricing pretty similar to Amiami, plus these two shops also sell exclusive release figures, Amiami mostly standard release...

As for the second question, this depends entirely on you...If you really want a figure, go ahead and pre-order... There is always the possibility that the figure price might skyrocket after release...But also keep in mind,it might also drop drastically...So whether its worth it to pre-order, you decide... nod.gif

If we want them to under-declare, when do we tell them? Also for pre-order they cant tell us the shipping price yet. Which site has a higher likelyhood to use SAL registered rather than forced to use EMS?

Normally before getting to the Confirmation page, there will be a column to leave a message, thats where I normally request to under-declare...
Amiami has the highest likelihood of forcing you to use EMS, as they are VERY generous with their packing... laugh.gif Sites like Nippon-Yasan do show you the estimated shipping cost even for pre-order items, but these can change after release...

Ok thank you for your advice smile.gif

i can tell u it's almost impossible. let's say you collect staple figure like Hatsune Miku, every year confirm at least have 2 of it, and if you liked them your quota gone adi. Then along the way you see something you like, then impulsive purchase happens. You'll at least buy 3 to 5 figures every year minimum
*
Hahaha poor student here dont have money collect so much yet sweat.gif How many you guys spend on these per year? If say 5 it will be around RM2.5k per year shocking.gif

The most crucial part is to not have it detained by Kastam, which can happen when
- your declared value went over the taxable limit (not sure whether it's still RM 500 or less nowadays)
- your declared value too low when your package is big
- the item name put in the declaration sounds suspicious (either nsfw-like name, or name that implies the item inside is forbidden to be imported to Malaysia, or the name implies the item is the confirmed-will-get-taxed one)
- on rare occasion, when the item was declared as gift

Kastam will only open your parcel (for most stuff) when you want the item to be checked for release, in which nsfw item will kantoi
*
Any examples of what a nsfw-like name sounds like?

For example this figure:
http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gc...-00244&page=top

nsfw names would be like the title of the above figurine tongue.gif
*
So how do you prevent nsfw figures from getting tahan at kastam brows.gif

Taxable limit includes postage right?

Usually shop will declare as "Plastic figurine" anyway
*
If declared as plastic figurine will not get detained by kastam?
