QUOTE(Parody @ Jun 11 2014, 11:48 AM) Thanks for the heads up! Really disappointed with the execution. Was the screw meant to mislead people? Or the guys at Koto simply suck in designing figures (the engineering and physics aspect), the plastic that supports her foot seems to be a separate part that was screwed in from the bottom, then they glue her foot into the peg. Why not just mold the protruding plastic peg and the plastic part surrounding it together with the base as a single piece? Then embed one or two average length metal rods inside the peg. Given they mass produce the figures such a design would add more than USD 3 dollars into their production cost. |

QUOTE(WingNut @ Jun 11 2014, 10:29 AM) Good question. I personally dont think they will ship it back to China or something - but it may explain the offers/discounts in AmiAmi's preowned or bargain section, for example. Personally i feel that they are actually new although opened before, but the japanese QC team are not happy with the level of QC for that particular item, although it's supposed to be very good already. That also explains why a lot of Kotobukiya figures end up in bargain bin. This post has been edited by EXkurogane: Jun 11 2014, 04:30 PM |

QUOTE(madmoz @ Jun 11 2014, 05:16 PM) LOLOL That's harsh. Some of their MuvLuv girls are quite nice (although QC issues are present in some units), also offer all the way down to 3800yen+. |

QUOTE(EXkurogane @ Jun 9 2014, 06:06 PM) Attention to all owners of Dark Olivia, her feet is NOT secured by metal bars despite having a screw in at the bottom. For those experiencing backward leans due to her weight, a catastrophe is waiting for happen - eventually she will snap off her base and land on the floor if you are displaying her high on a shelf without leaning on a wall behind. Alamak got such problem kah? Kotobukiya was brainless enough to use nothing but glue to secure her feet into the base. I was lucky to notice this, a moderate pull, and she detaches from her base which is not supposed to happen. It will be a matter of time the glue's adhesion gives away. Also, take care with super glues if you do need to resort to it - they can leech paint off the figure's surface VERY fast. ![]() |

Kotobukiya shot themselves in the foot (pun intended). I have to make her go back in the box, dismantle the whole figure after i take enough photos. It's a love hate relationship; she's one of the most beautiful figures i have seen Koto made, but, but, THAT FARKIN' FOOT PEG
If it was Good Smile and you email them a complaint they might even send you replacement parts for free. Kotobukiya, from what i heard, usually refuses to entertain customers' emails regarding quality issues. I wouldnt be so pissed if this was a 8000 or 9000yen figure. But to think they didnt use metal rods for a heavy figure costing almost 14k yen... This post has been edited by EXkurogane: Jun 11 2014, 07:01 PM |

Should i do it to Kotobukiya this year? it might affect the price of this Olivia. http://myfigurecollection.net/picture/889411 This post has been edited by EXkurogane: Jun 11 2014, 08:38 PM |

I need to thank you first for your info previously on Japan PVC figure rating, as I saw you rate Kotobukiya very low rate, when Oliva comes out, this does hold me back from placing the order http://myfigurecollection.net/picture/889411 |

Koto stuff not bad ah!"), just speaking from my experience. I actually though Dark Olivia is koto's turning point, to deliver better figures. They almost got it right there, only to ruin something that's actually important. To be honest, in terms of beauty and looks, Olivia is probably the most detailed figure ever made by Koto i have seen so far. Probably my luck wasnt good enough, but she is still darn beautiful to look at. If there is one figure of theirs im still interested in, it's that nun with guns Killmaria Aideen. But since she's a Shining series character i'll wait and see for the price drop. I didnt rate Koto too low though; she's a Tier 2, just below the top guns like Alter, GSC, orchid Seed, Max Factory, Native. There are 4 tiers in total on my figure company rating. |

I got a Orchid Seed and a Max Factory figure, I can see from their quality, like what you said, Orchid Seed is higher than Max Factory. I also been seen some Koto's product, honestly saying, that is a toy level work, but not a figurine level. |

QUOTE(madmoz @ Jun 11 2014, 11:31 AM) saw a lot of these 'prize figures' in the second hand shops in akiba as well as in the ufo machines in them arcades... quality isn't bad really, although one can not expect them to be as good as the figurines from the more established companies. the price difference also heaven and earth still very good though. Anyway, personally I highly recommend Master Stars Piece line from Banpresto. The superb quality and huge size vs the small price, just blow me away! |
